Title: Strange Drill Pattern
Post by: Re-Evolution on May 27, 2003, 10:00:45 PM
What would the affect be if a ball was drilled with the Pin below the CG? I have never heard of anyone doing this and was wondering if anyone else has heard of anyone trying it or know what the affect would be.
STRANGE thought I know. Maybe had a couple to many after league last night.

Its actually not that uncommon.  It is the preferred method for full roller drillings.

If you look on this board for Wiseman drillings, you'll find many discussions about it.

A 315 degree layout is like this too. When using pin balls with a premarked mass bias.

I've tried this drilling in the past.  Made a great dry lane ball...but you need to have a ball with low enough top weight to get away with it.  I put the pin in my gripline and the cg was just below my ring finger (right hander).  I had to put a weight whole pretty high up...but it worked.  Given the equipment now a days I don't think this drilling is needed unless you are a full roller or just trying to kill a ball.
