So talking to a couple of experienced pro shop guys & got some thoguhts on thumb & finger pitch change to allow smoother exit for different releases. Right now I only feel comfortable with 1 type of release. Other releases, it seems like the thumb/finger exit isn't as clean as it could be. And trust me, operator error is always a part of this equation as well. lol!!
Current: RH, Span: 4 3/8" both fingers, TH pitch:1/8Rt & 1/8Reverse
MF: 5/16"L & 3/16"away RF: 9/16"R & 3/16" away
1 guy suggested: Add more right or decrease reverse &/or take fingers to 0
1 guy suggested: go to 1/8L & 1/8Reverse on TH & change laterals on fingers to
MF: 9/16" & RF: 1/4"-5/16"
Was interesting to hear 2 different responses. Any other thoughts out there? Always like to hear from others & put responses away in the files.

Towards the palm in the thumb slows or delays the release...and that is a lot of contrast in the fingers
Lay your hand palm up and see how your thumb wants to lie...a comfortable natural position is away from the palm, thus a quicker natural release angle is closer to that, not one that forces your thumb unnaturally
Finger angles are dictated by your natural finger alignment...and shouldn't conflict with thumb angles...when I competed my laterals were 1/4< & 1/8> cause that's what my fingers dictated...

Thanks for the response JustRico

Ric, in an attempt to get less squeezing and more consistency, I currently have some forward (toward the palm). It's been a long journey over 10+ years starting with 1/2 reverse. I don't have issues with tearing or blisters. I can bowl long blocks on successive days without the need or desire for Hada tape or skin patch.
But, as I got forward, I noticed I started developing occasional thumb swelling issues I hadn't experienced previously. I'm certain that part of the condition was that I started to bowl much more than I had previously. But at the same time I feel friction on the back of the thumb I didn't have with more reverse. No blisters or tearing, but certainly more contact on thumb exit.
I guess my question is, for some, is that the tradeoff that sometimes has to be accepted? I just got a few IT slugs drilled with a little reverse for some experimentation (it's been a while), but I'd like your perspective.

Yes that's more than likely from the angle placing your thumb in a less than natural angle and applying pressure which creates swelling over time
I'd try going 1/8" less towards the palm possibly a 1/16" reverse and away added to see not just merely messing with the reverse/forward angle

Thanks Ric. One of the new IT slugs I had drilled is 1/8" reverse with 1/16" left lateral. I experimented with right lateral a few years ago, and it wasn't a happy experience. I'll contrast that with the 0" forward and 1/16" left lateral slugs I already have and see how things feel.
Thanks again for your insights.

No prob let me know how it turns out
