Drilling for Lefties (just curious)
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:05:05 AM »
I'm lefthanded and I was wondering is drilling for left-handed bowlers typicaly just a mirror image of layouts for right handed bowlers, or is there more to it?

Main reason I ask is had several different shops drill several balls over the years and it never fails they always end up drilling into (or almost into) some interior part of the ball (I imagine it's the weight block).

Injury,

Any ball drilling on it's own is basically no different from left handed to right handed. By that I mean that there is no difference in how you would drill a ball as far as depth of holes is concerned (lefty vs righty).

Drilling into the interior part of the ball is an interesting comment. Normally, with a finger tip grip, the finger holes are drilled approximately  1 1/2" deep. The thumb hole would normally be approximately 2" deep, up to 2 1/2" for thumb slugs. These values should not change regardless of hand preference.

I have it drilled fingertip no inserts or slug. Wasn't so much concerned with the depth of the drilling as placement (though does make me wonder what all the bit would go through if I had it drilled with a full finger grip) . But if it's just a normal thing I'll put it out of my mind.

Was just one of those things that would pop up in my mind on a crappy night or week of bowling and think "hrmm I wonder if that shouldn't have been drilled there" but alas our brains are great at coming up with reasons that have nothing to do with the actual problem.
