calling all drillers
« on: February 25, 2007, 04:01:10 AM »
I recently had a Passion drilled up while I was out of town. Told the driller I was a stroker that plays on medium oil. He drilled the ball Layed out for a cranker on light oil. I have heard that plugging a mass bias ball can destroy the ball chances of reaction. Looking for some help hate this ball but spent big bucks. have you had problems after plugging?

How is it drilled?
The MB will change when you plug it.
If there is a center near you that has a Determinator they can find the new MB after plugging.

The only thing I could see doing is plugging the ball, lowering the pin and mb, with the exact positioning dependant on your axis coordinates, perhaps changing the weight hole position, if any. These would change it some, but not as much as the surface changes you already have tried.

unless you are bowling on a flood 400 is more than likely too low and 1500 polished may be too high. Try it at 800-1000
Does it have a balance hole?
If not you could drill a balance hole 6.75" from the pin on your VAL this will get the ball to start up quicker and increase flare.
This is assuming the CG is as low as it appears to be based on the layout you showed above. If not use caution as to not add too much finger weight.
Bring the ball back to 0 pos/neg.

the ball does have a balance hole that is right on the side of the ball to remove more than 2oz of side weight. My local pro shop also told me that the ball still has 1 1/8 oz of side weight on a dodo.

tek4life,

If the ball really does have 1 1/8 oz. side weight left AFTER the weight hole, then it is still out of USBC specification. Maximum side weight is 1 oz. So, this needs to be corrected first!

There are many opinions as to the effect of static weights on the performance of bowling balls. I'm not going to open Pandora's box about this...

Does the ball appear to 'lope' down the lane, or struggle to turn up at the breakpoint? This may be caused by excessive side weight.

Thank you everyone for your input. I went ahead and ordered a special agent and will have it drilled at my centers pro shop. I will be using the passion as a just  in case ball/spare ball.
