Dry Lanes Ball
« on: February 09, 2005, 10:34:50 AM »
I am looking for a good light oil ball when my others can't get down the lane.  Please help.  I have yet to find a good light oil ball.

The slate blue gargoyle is a good ball.

I just posted this reply to another request for a dry lane ball;
(The balls mentioned here are Columbia solely because the original post was on the Columbia forum.)
The questions still seem applicable here; so here goes:

Describe what you mean by dry:
- what ball are you using, when it gets dry,
- how's it drilled,
- was the surface changed from stock,
- how does it react,
- how deep do you play,
- how do you throw it (revs, ball speed, tilt, etc)

You may only need a medium-light to light oil handling pearl resin, like the Jekyl, OR something milder like a Scout or very mild like a pearlized urethane (Trooper). The answers to the above questions will help determine what you need.

Columbia Trooper is a good dry lane ball.
It's urethane. I use it as a spare ball on oilier conditions.
It has pretty good hit for a urethane ball, with a weaker core.
