Hello fellow bowlers, just joined this forum from a glowing recommendation from Luke Rosdahl at Epic Bowling.

Long story short... my son was quite accomplished as a bowler as a young child, and now he wants to get into the adult leagues, ten years later. The problem is that he has no existing ball on which to base the layout for his new ball.(Storm Marvel Pearl)

I believe it is necessary to get the core dynamics working correctly to compliment his release, but where to start?
I had one pro tell me that a ball track and PAP are not really needed.
Is this possible?

I'm thinking he should buy a used plug-ball for $50 and drill it to fit his hand, then transfer the track and hand fitting measurements to the expensive new ball. Any other options?

That is a good way to 'start.' you could spend the $50 and get a test ball, or you can find him a bowler with similar specs and he could test someone else's ball.

I have personally want some people joke around as a demo day grip, literally all of my buddies (within reason) love to test all of my new stuff because my hand seems to be spot on for others to try.

Still thinking of your son, its only money. Each ball should be laid out better than the one previous, it is always a learning process. Have your Pro Shop Operator make the decision. There are a few layouts that should work for the masses, and you can build off of that!

He's going to need a spare ball, so buy that first. Pick a plastic ball with a pancake core and use a simple lable drill. Then use that ball to determine his PAP location and other release specs. -- JohnP

If it's been ten years since he has bowled, Your basically starting from scratch.

Don't even worry about layout's yet, it will take a while before he has a consistent release which will give a stable PAP.

The first thing to worry about is getting the fit right. If the grips not right, that will affect his release.

The idea of getting a used plug-ball or a Plastic ball and drilling it to fit his hand is a good idea. With it you can workout any fit issues and plug/redrill if needed till you have the fit spot on.

During that time he can work at getting a consistent release with a stable PAP.

Then see about getting the other ball punched up.
