what´s wrong with this drilling?
« on: March 18, 2004, 03:06:27 PM »
hello,

i´m a balldriller from germany and need your help!!

i´ve drilled a 12lbs. columbia300 pulse (the red)

.........mf...rf...
...................
..............pin..
............cg.....
...................
...........th.....

you see it is a pin in ball.

the ball, doesn´t matter the kind of release, is completely clipping the fingers and the thumbhole.

the track is clode to this:

..........\\......
........mf.\.rf...
...........\.....
...........\.pin..
...........cg....
...........\\....
...........\\....
..........th.....
............\....

first there was a bit of LEFT sideweight 2/8 ounce
so i drilled a hole to the left side to get positiv sideweight to the right but after that it was not much better.

Have i done a mistake or is something wrong with that ball?

thank you for your help :-)

The theory goes -
For people with high tracks, the pin should be positioned on or above the line from the ring finger hole to the bowler's positive axis point. If you do not do that, then there is a possibility of the track clipping either the middle finger hole or the thumb hole or both.

OK.

A 12 lb Pulse (or any other Columbia) may (and probably does) have a plain pancake core. In that case "left side weight", which I assume is negative side weight for a right hander, will also cause the ball to track higher than normal. So even if he/she did not start out as a high tracker, this weight will raise the track. Also bottom weight (as opposed to top weight) will also do the same. After creating positive weight, you may still have bottom weight.

That's all that comes to mind just now; could the bowler have changed their release somehow? or just be releasing this ball differently?

Another thing to consider is the lateral pitches to raise or lower the track

What is/was the pap of the bowler before and after the new ball. With it tracking like that I would guess it to be a pitch/release problem. Tell us as much info as possible and see if we can help. We need to know more to eliminate theories.
