Which finger should be higher?

I just realized that on all of my equipment is drilled with my ring finger higher than my middle finger? Is this normal? Either way what does this promote?

I would have assumed my middle finger should of been drilled higher up than my ring finger.

If it is wrong can I just plug and re-drill the ring finger without having to plug the entire ball?

It is the distance from the base of your thumb to each joint....thus the ring finger is longer than the middle-normally.

Okay, so this is normal and doesn't promote one type of shot over another?

I was just looking at the Schlemer report and realizing that most have the middle finger higher, or even with the ring.

Thanks, I appreciate it. If anyone else has any opinions though feel free to chime in. I've been bowling for about 20 years now and it's the first time I've noticed it. So it's not like it hasn't been working, but I was just curious.

If your thumb was attached to the center of your hand, then your middle finger hole would definitely be higher than your ring finger hole. But your thumb is attached to the side of your hand closer to your middle finger than your ring finger.  Your middle finger is longer so it offsets some of the greater distance, but for many the distance to the ring finger is still longer.

Try this, lay your hand facing up on the table in front of you.  Then measure from the inside crease at the base of your thumb (that's the top of your thumbhole) to the middle of the top knuckle of your middle finger (that's the bottom of your middle finger hole).  The measure from the same spot on your thumb to the middle of the top knuckle of your ring finger (that's the bottom of your ring finger hole.

For many, the distance to the ring finger will be a little longer.  Thus, their ring finger hole will be further away from their thumbhole than their middle finger hole.

To check your spans put your thumb in its hole and lay your fingers over their holes with about the same amount of stretching as when you have the fingers inserted.  The leading edge of each finger hole should fall halfway, plus or minus 1/8", between the two finger joints.  --  JohnP
