urethane reaction
« on: April 29, 2011, 10:30:17 PM »
Hello everyone,

I have just signed with Motiv. They make an excellent product and I am really happy. however, I really like to use urethane on short patterns as I am left handed. I can stay on the gutter all day and my reaction is usually great.

I drilled both Recons and while they are great on the friction they can be a little jumpy. I drilled my orange one 50 x 2.5 x 20 with a P1 hole. let me just say that I can and have had success in tournaments opening up the lane with this ball.

Looking at the Natural, it's differential is in the .040 range. My first move is to use a ball from the QZ line to do what I want.

I am just looking for a layout that is going to roll really early and do nothing/very little on the back end. I really like pin axis layouts for this (1.5 from PAP), but I was hoping to get some other ideas.

Thanks,

Darren,

You might want to check with Justin on this, but isn't that 20 degree VAL angle going to make the Orange more flippy at the breakpoint (even with the 2.5 pin-PAP)?
I'm kind of surprised you didn't try a 50-60 VAL angle. Mine is drilled about 60 x5.5 x 40 and on light to medium-light oil (with no carrydown) it has a whole bunch of backend. I was surprised (and delighted) at how much it had. FYI Mine also came polished out of the box.

I think that a 60 x 2.5 x 60 drill with a 2000 or 3000 matte finish might make the Orange more urethane like in its reaction.

Yep, I would go with something like this.  That smaller val angle is gonna make the ball flip off the spot.  I use a 85°x2"x47° on my stuff.  I can play up the shoot all night and have a nice roll to the pocket.   That seems to be my favorite layout of late.  I even drilled a Bank Pearl with that layout, and boy is that thing smooth.  Albeit a little bit stronger than my Maverick and Hype Pearl with the same layout.
