Plugging
« on: March 07, 2008, 12:20:47 AM »
Hi all,

I have a ball that I drilled over a year ago, and do not know the original top weight.  I weighed the ball last night, and after drilling, it has about 1/2 ounce of bottom weight.  My question is, if I plug the ball, should it get back to the approximate original top weight, provided I didn't drill out the core?  Does the plug material weigh about the same as the original material?  Finally how much weight would you expect it to add back ... the finger have inserts, and have a 1 1/32 holes, and the thumb hole uses a 1 1/4 slug.

By the way, the ball is a MoRich Seek and Destroy.  Someone wants to plug the ball and drill it with a Rico drilling, and is concerned about the top weight ... which is why I am asking.

Thanks

It would be close, but not exact.  Ball materials have different densities.  Coverstock is usually heavier than filler, and core is usually denser than coverstock.  I would say you'd only be off by fractions of an ounce, or 2 ounces at the most.  I only say that because I had a ball completely plugged and it ended up being about 2 ounces lighter than the original specs - say 14 lb 15 ounces instead of 15 lb 1 ounce.
