LANE CONDITION

Another home run bowling ball from DV8. They really did it this time. The original marauder was really special to me. It was one of the if not the most versatile ball I have ever thrown. Putting a solid cover on this ball has allowed it to lose its axis rotation a little sooner and allowing it to go a little more forward off the end of the oil pattern. This is a fantastic ball for fresh medium oil patterns and house shots.

I have one drilled Rico (pin in palm cg shift 45 degrees)
and one drilled pin under my bridge ZERO degrees.

Usually when a ball blends out an oil pattern this well it has trouble maintaining its shape through the pins. This ball blends out oil patterns while maintaining its axis rotation long enough to also maintain the right shapes down lane.

40 ft. THS

RH
350-400 Rev Rate

I am incredibly impressed with the ability of this ball to read the mid-lane and still have such a controllable back end. I bowled a decent bit with the Original Marauder, and often hoped for a compliment to the skid flip of that ball. DV8 actually exceeded my expectations with the Marauder Madness. This will most likely be my first ball out of the bag. Especially, at the centers I bowl league at this year. I've found that as soon as the lanes break down enough that chasing the shot effects your carry, I can pick up my original Marauder, go back right, and continue to strike. This is another DV8 home run.

I drilled this ball with my favorite pattern: pin 1 inch above the ring finger and the CG slightly below and to the right of the ring finger.

If you liked your Marauder and are looking for a ball to compliment it, then the Marauder Madness is for you. Available on 10/31/12, this ball will be perfect when the Marauder is not enough ball for you or if you need a smoother backend reaction. The ball read the mid-lane so well, and has a smooth backend reaction allowing for great carry. I plan to drill 2 more of these shortly and will post reviews. As always, if anyone has any questions on any ball in the DV8 line feel free to message me!

Marauder Madness Review
By: Bryan Bannach DV8 Regional Staff Member
DV8 describes the Marauder Madness as “clean through the front, digs in the mid-lane to create a very strong and continuous motion that drives through the pins. The Class 5G coverstock maintains proper grip throughout the lane on medium-oily to light oil lane conditions.”
When I heard the description of the Marauder Madness I immediately knew the layout I wanted to put in this ball.  I went with my good old trusty 5x3x5 with a P2 X Hole control layout.  I have had this layout in both a Reckless and a Misfit and they have come to be 2 of my favorite balls.  This layout gives me great mid-lane and a strong controlled arcing reaction on the backend.  I was hoping the Marauder Madness would give me this same motion with a stronger overall reaction.  I left the surface at Out of Box because I thought the 4000 Abralon would only add to the controlled reaction.
After my first night in league I knew this ball was going to become one of my favorites.  But after using it on a few different patterns this ball has become my all-time favorite ball.
I first used the Marauder Madness on an extremely wet/dry house.  This ball blended out the pattern better than any ball I have thrown in some time.  If I missed out early, the Madness would bleed some energy and make a controlled move of the friction.  While it bled some energy to control the reaction, it still had plenty when it got to the pins. On the flip side, if I pulled it into the puddle, it still read the mid-lane and got into a roll.  Creating great carry, and allowing me to play any part of the lane.
The next pattern I used the Madness on was on the Viper pattern on AMF HPLs.  The pattern played vastly different across the house.  While others were struggling with transition from lane to lane, I was able to keep the pocket in play with very minute moves using the Madness.  Regardless of the pair differences the Madness always picked up its roll, and didn’t over-react or under-react, like other balls were.
Finally I used the Madness on the 40ft Athens pattern on extremely old wood lanes.  This pattern had a ton of hook on the backend.  Anything with shine, or an angular drilling was very inconsistent at the breakpoint.  Once again, I was able to use the Madness and control the pocket. It read the pattern on that old wood surface very hard, and while it was making a strong move, it was controllable.   While others were struggling with controlling the pocket I had no issue.  I was second high in qualifying at +83 for 4 games, with the cut to the top 8 being -17.  I went on to win the tournament, switching to an original Marauder in the finals because the heads were too burnt and the surface on the Madness would not allow it to get through any longer.
The class 5G coverstock is something very special.  It is clean through the fronts while still reading the mid-lane and getting in a roll.  It handles oil as well as friction, and never seems to lose reaction.  This is my go-to ball when I need to keep the ball in play.  I have been able to use it on various volumes of oil, and that makes this ball very dangerous for the competition!

Lane Condition: 43 foot House pattern
Style: Cranker with high speed

The Madness has got to be one of the strongest balls I have thrown to date with an amazing ability to read the front part of the lane great but still have a ton of energy left on the back-end. I drilled min 5" from my PAP pin up and will leave the factory cover on it. One thing you need to know is you need oil to throw this beast or you might as well leave it in the bag. This is everything you would expect out of a strong ball and I will probably be drilling my next one pin down with some polish on it to see what that does. This ball is DAMN GOOD and throws pins like no other!

WOW!!! DV8 does it again.
I drilled this up 40x4.5x30 and this ball was very clean(too clean really) thru the fronts, Rolled good in the Mids and turned over hard in the backend. Pins did not have a chance. This was on a House condition. Looking for to throwing this on PBA conditon

Asian World Championship

Length:35 Foot

Volume:

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):Sport

If you loved the Maurader Hybrid, then you will really love the Maurader Madness.  I have loved this ball right after I took it out of the box.  This past Monday we were bowling on the Asian World Championship, and I wanted to see what this ball would do on a really short pattern.  This ball do super!  My first game I shot 300, and my series was 886.  I was throwing up the 2nd board and my ball speed was 18 mph.  This ball is really good on medium to short patterns and have not had a chance to throw it on a long pattern.  I can throw this on a new pattern and when I get some carry down, I can go to the Maurader Hybrid.

The drilling I did on this ball was just a stacked drilling with the pin just left of my ring finger and a 2-3" pin.  The surface on the ball is out of the box finish.

Likes: This wall is clean through the front and is continues through the back.  This ball is gread on medium to short patterns.

Dislikes:  I don't have any dislikes on this ball.

My Madness is drilled pin over the bridge (5" from my PAP) and is in box finish.
The intent of this ball was to provide somewhat of a stronger benchmark ball to replace my Too Reckless which I so dearly loved.  This ball really caught me by surprise.  It clears the fronts way better than I had expected, and it definitely releases at the end for a trademark DV8 backend reaction.
What I like most about this ball is that it is a solid with length and backend.  The advantage of this ball?  I experience length without the kind of squirtiness that many pearls give me.  The Madness reminds me of my Too Reckless with just a little more finish and can handle a tad more oil than my pin up Marauder

Marauder Madness:
Drill Pattern : 65x4.75x25
PAP: 4.5x.5 Down
Sarge Easter Grip
Power Tweener

This is an excellent ball from DV8. This ball I consider a high performance ball at a Mid-End Price.  This ball has alot of pick up in the midlane but still with the continuous motion in the backend.  I tried the ball out OOB on a typical house pattern, AMF HPL.  I had to get dead left with this ball to line up with the pocket, it was clean in the from part of the lane, and you can see the pick up in the midlane with a strong motion in the back part of the lane. And this ball did not quit at all. I used a couple different hand positions, definently a ball that you will have to get your hand around the further right you get. With higher volumes of oil you will be able to come more off the back of the ball. This ball hit the pins like a Brick. One thing I noticed with this ball, is that it kept the pins low, and it scattered the pins.

I changed the coverstock after I threw it OOB, I changed it to 2000-Abralon with factory finish polish.  I was able to get further right and square up more with the lane. The Madness still had a lot of pick up in the mid-lane even with the polish on the ball, just had a little more length out of it. Was able to use it on the fresh and still had room to move left when needed.

Overall, this ball is excellent for all bowlers I find.  For bowlers with faster ball speeds this ball will have great pick up as I find it picks up the lanes quicker than other balls. For Bowlers with slower ball speeds and are looking for more hook, this will definently be a great ball for you.

As well the coverstock can be manipulated very easily and can suit for most lane conditions. I find the better use for this ball is on the longer patterns and med patterns with higher volumes of conditioner.

Well that is it for this review, hopefully to post more in the future.

Bowler’s Stats:
18.5 mph
450 rpm
7 degree tilt
35-45 degree tilt

Layout:
60 by 4.5” by 45
No hole
OOB Surface

Purpose:
By the numbers, the Marauder Madness (MM) is supposed to be slightly stronger than the Brunswick Maxxed-Out. Thus, I drilled the MM identically to a Maxxed-out of mine to give a slightly stronger look and a great 1-2 punch on heavier volume oil conditions. This layout also mimics the layout of my original Marauder.

On the lanes:
I’ve thrown this ball on the 44’ WTBA London pattern and our 39’ lower-medium volume house shot. On both, the MM provided great midlane traction and plenty of tip in the backend to carry the corners. On London, the MM allowed me to start deeper than everyone else at 4th arrow and send it out to a breakpoint of 10-11. The strong cover of the MM really let it dig into the pattern, despite the heavier volume and longer length. Traditionally, such a strong midlane read would translate to a decrease in backend response and questionable pin carry. The MM refuses to fit that mold. The carry I got from this ball was very surprising to me when taking into consideration the pattern and my ball roll. On London, the original Marauder, with its weaker cover and surface, was a whole 6 board move right with my feet and I also had to tighten up my line downlane by my moving my breakpoint into 12-13. The Maxxed-out was a 2 board move outside with my feet while keeping the same breakpoint. The Maxxed-out does have a more recovery on the backend, but less in the midlane. I can’t wait to throw the MM on more heavy volume patterns like this.
On my house shot, although on the drier side of medium volume, the MM did fine.  The strength of the cover forced me to play in the meat of the pattern without really sending the ball out to the friction right. If I tried to play further right, the cover of the MM coupled with my rev rate and low tilt required me to force it through the fronts a little more than I prefer. This ball for is simply not for drier conditions. That being said, the MM was still more than useable on this pattern. I started out just inside of 4th arrow and projected it to a breakpoint of 10-11. Like before, I saw a strong midlane read and plenty of backend to slap out 10s. I have no doubt that a coat of polish would make this a great ball to smooth out the over under/reaction of house shots. The original Marauder let me move back into the easy part of the pattern by moving 5 right with my feet and 4 right with my breakpoint. The Maxxed-out only required a 1 board move right with my feet and I could target 8-9 at the break. This shows me what a great 1-2 punch the MM and Maxxed-out are for heavy-med patterns. When the MM becomes too much, I know I should be able to immediately switch to the Maxxed-out and have it project a little further downlane.

Overview:
Those of you on heavier volume conditions will absolutely love the midlane bite of this ball. The same goes to those of you with higher speeds coupled with a lower rev rate on more medium conditions. In each case the Marauder Madness is a great ball to blend out the pattern and reduce the over/under seen on today’s house patterns. The way in digs into the midlane while still saving energy for the backends makes it a great choice for sport patterns and (depending on the patterns revealed) could be absolute money at Nationals this year.

Good luck and good bowling!

Likes: The Marauder Madness is an excellent compliment to the original Marauder.  Mine is layed out 60X5.5X50.  With mostly a forward roll release, balls with very defined midlane reactions and surface do not roll well for me.  However, they do serve a purpose and at this price point, this is a very good heavy oil ball.  This ball picks up the midlane as one would expect and make a strong arching motion to the pocket.  It was not overly aggressive off the friction on the lane which was nice and allowed me to stay right longer.

With it at it's OOB surface, I use it on the fresh and heavier oil applications playing right and controlling the fresh backends.  When the track area opens up, I can step right down into my Marauder and keep the ball right and at very strong angles into the pocket.  I may pick up another one and add a polish to it for another intermediate step between the factory surface Madness and the original Marauder.

I thoroughly expect this ball to be a staple in my bag for tough Sport patterns to break down the fresh and still be able to throw strikes.

All in all, a solid ball that with the bright blue and yellow/greenish swirls looks amazing going down the lane.

This ball is a great compliment to the Marauder. With the box 4000 surface, it can handle a heavier volume of oil than the Marauder. I like how the Marauder Madness reads the mid lane stronger and has a stronger backend reaction than the Marauder. It can be used on the fresh to break down the oil pattern, and then you can switch to the Marauder to smooth out the over reaction with the hybrid cover. It can be used as a benchmark ball for leagues or as another tool for a tournament. The ball can be drilled using standard layouts for symmetrical balls. I really like the overall strength of this ball and it allows me to keep moving left to stay in the fresh oil. If you are looking for a strong solid coverstock ball or a compliment to the Marauder, then go get one today!

I took mine to play at a 2000 Abralon and polished, and it reacts much stronger off the spot that my original Marauder would. I know that this has a great progression now, and if this starts to go away, the Marauder will be the ball that I will probably go to then. With it being very clean through the fronts of the lane, even with a symmetrical core, it definitely had a nice almost angular motion on the backend, and it keeps the pins very low.
