Marauder & Dude Overlap?
« on: January 03, 2014, 12:09:13 AM »
i have the dude, was looking at picking up a marauder but looking at stats they look almost identical...so i was just wondering if having both would be an option or would they just cancel each other out?

...thanks for any possible input...

The original marauder is a stronger ball than the dude. The dude has a controlled motion, and the marauder is stronger on the backend. Both of mine are drilled similarly and the marauder can handle more oil. I would suggest getting one if they are still available because they have different motions.

I actually see them a little differently than Brandon from my own experience.  The original Marauder was a hybrid and was probably one of the smoothest ball motions in the DV8 line for me.  Its overall weaker slightly than the Dude, but certainly reacts earlier on the lane with quicker response to friction.  The Dude has a higher RG rating and lower diff so you should get more length, and more angularity out of the Dude.  I actually hit my Dude with a fresh 4000 pad because its just incredibly clean through the fronts and mids and I wanted a little quicker response to friction.  I do see similarities between the Dude and Marauder.  I could see how they would play similar parts of the lane, but with different shapes.  My money would be on the Dude though.  I think it provides a bit more versatility in cover management and gives you extra length that you just won't get from the Marauder.  Two of my favorite balls in the DV8 line, but not sure how much longer the DV8 Marauder line will be around.

Suh--

I have the original Marauder-- drilled pin above my fingers (positioned in the middle of both) with cg in the middle of my palm (about 3.5" pin to cg in length).

I've played with the surface of the ball quite a bit; from 500 the whole way to 4k without polish, then back to different grits with polish. Finally, I decided to add a balance hole to tweak the reaction just a touch (put the hole on my pap- 5 over, 0 up); we took about 1/2 oz out.

What I have is a smooth, controllable ball when the backends really jump on fresh lanes, and a ball that is usable later in the block when the mids go and I still need something strong enough (but not "jumpy") off the spot to carry. Overall, I'm satisfied with the ball, but it doesn't make me say "WOW".

Great ball, and I would suggest getting one. It isn't (in my opinion) a must have, but you won't be disappointed with it in your bag. Multiple layouts possible, with surface adjustments coming easily to fine tune the ball to your game.

And for $75, a pretty unbeatable price!
