I always clean my balls but very seldom resurface. Since some of these balls come with the 500 Siaair finish which i am not familiar with, I wonder how they'll react if I don't resurface them.
I'd like to know so I can choose the drilling pattern accordingly. I do not mind if they won't work right out of the box, as long as they work OK after the surface is smoothed out.
Thanks!

Depends on what ball. With modern high performance balls,it is well within reason to expect them to need resurfacing well before 30 games.Mid and low end equipment will generally keep their reaction longer between surface maintenance.

If I'm not mistaken, balls with varying surfaces will end up at 2000 after several games. So, you can bet that once your ball has a bunch of games, it's near 2000.

Here is a video showing how much the surface of a ball changes during three games. A ball with a rougher surface will change faster than a smoother ball. The ending grit that a ball will stabilize at depends on the surface the ball is rolling on. Ex. A wood lane will be rougher than a synthetic lane.

Thanks, Jayhawk.
That surprises even me!!

OK, thank you! I have a good idea but this is kind of hard to believe. Why would they use such a rough finish( 500) that will change quickly? From 500 to 1500 or even 2000 in 3 games? Wouldn't we have to make a move every 3-5 shots?
Almost any ball can claim to be a super hooker if it had 500 grit finish( that holds up). Shouldn't a "real" hooker have 2000 or even finer grit? Didn't the Storm Virtual Grivity have 4000 factory finish?

Correct me if im wrong, but all super hookers start at at least 500 grit. Then they put another surface or two after it. For instance, the virtual gravity like the nano has an oob finish at 500/4000. Even polished pearl super hookers start at 500 grit.
