Reckless vs Too Reckless
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:19:38 PM »
I got the impression from a bunch of different bowlers that the Too Reckless was longer and stronger than the Reckless. According to BTM, they have the Too Reckless earlier with a less defined break point with more overall hook than the Reckless.. I'm confused.. Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

C'mon, somebody!!

Logan, I think BTM made a mistake with that review. Every video I have seen showed a more definititve backend on the Too Reckless. I think BJIs review could be closer to the mark, but I'd also like to hear from those who have both. The solid should be earlier than the pearl BUT there's very different finished on each of them. Let's see what  the experience of someone (Hopefully more than one someone!) who has both indicates.

BTW we do have a very good someone, Brian Pursel. Check his review (2nd one down) of the Too Reckless here on BallReviews: X  marks the url.

I have both, and the Reckless is a much earlier stronger hooking (heavier oil) kind of ball. The Too Reckless is much much cleaner through the heads with good down lane recovery. They are a great one two punch and the article is very very off in what you just post in the description of the bowling balls.

Agreed, I see the Reckless as a little earlier than the Too Reckless.  Initially I thought it was weird how the pearl is actually earlier than the solid, but once I saw how well the solid rolled I stopped complaining!

Like everybody else I will have to agree as well. I do not know what BTM was thinking when they wrote this review. I have 2 Reckless' and 2 Too Reckless' and there is no way that either of my Too Reckless' roll earlier and smoother than a Reckless. I have had many pro shop operators argue that the TR is pearl and the Reckless is solid, then they do their research and see that I was right. If DV8 continues to use this technology on future balls I will be very happy. Although I am looking for a "true" pearl. I love the look that the Reckless gives me on any condition.

Actually I was about 99% certain that it was said by one of the DV8 "people" that the Reckless was a pearl. Then it was said that the Too Reckless was a solid BUT the BJI review said it was a hybrid.
More importantly, in the BJI review of the Too Reckless, Joey said that when they were both finished to the exact same finish, there was virtually zero difference between them.

While, in the long run, the important factor is the ball reaction, not whether it's a solid or a pearl, normally, there is some reaction difference between solid and pearls when they are finished to same surface, especially in this case, where they use the exact same core.

The Reckless is a Pearl.  The Too Reckless is a Solid.
