Had a chance to throw these 2 on our 43ft house shot. The Grudge Hybrid is awesome. I loved the original, but this one will allow me to keep it in play longer. Cleaner through the front and stronger at backend. Tournament and league bowlers will love this ball.
The Freakshow is more ball than I anticipated. It is A LOT stronger than most balls in this price point. The Blue/Platinum cover pops on the shelf too. This will.be a big seller in my shop and a great ball to help introduce newer customers to the DV8 line. It has easily become my favorite to throw and will dominate most typical house shots. I can't wait to try the new 6V cover with some surface changes.
-
How will the Hybrid fare on a pattern that is 41ft and probably little volume?
My Scandal goes well on such, but sometimes it looses it's power right before the pins it seems and the 10 pin is left or some other of those shits :P
I have to throw my Swerve faster for it to create enough action down there to get a strike.
-
With the hybrid cover, I'm seeing 2-3 feet longer and no loss of reaction or continuation through the pins. I bowled on really old wood lanes and they use Fire oil.
-
Tommymo, any comparison of the Freak Show to a recent Big B and family release? I think I'm looking to add either the Freak Show or Fanatic
-
Wood lanes??? Since I would guess most houses (still in business) these days have synthetic lanes. I would hope for an evaluation based on synthetic lanes and the type of synthetic.
-
Well, I bowl on synthetics as well... I just thought I'd mention that I was getting good length on such a high friction surface. I'm only a 2-3 boards straighter in a house with brand new SPLs. 41ft 21mL pattern
-
I would say it's close to being DV8's Melee Jab. At OOB it's clean through the fronts and maybe 2-3 boards less overall. I have yet to take the OOB shine off. I generally prefer to knock the polish off with a 4k Siaair pad, but I've really liked the look I've had so far with the Freakshow. I really want to see how the 6V, V for Versatility, coverstock reacts with a surface change.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking for a ball to pair with a Brute Strength and Rhino for leagues this year. I like the sound of the Freak Show I'd like to see more of it still
-
Absolutely, I threw it a few night on a THS and actually was able to use it in league this week on the Shark. Lanes were so ugly that we had to abandon our plan of attack. The week before we were able to use stronger balls and surface on the fresh. This week those strong balls labored and looked weak. I moved in deeper and used the combination of Grudge Hybrid and then the Freakshow towards the end of the block. I will be putting these balls through the paces this week in various houses. I'll try to report back. I'm going to test surface changes too.

In regard to the Grudge hybrid how would you compare it to the Thug Corrupt? and I have already ordered a Freakshow. Ball looks great.
-
I think the Grudge Hybrid and Thug Corrupt are close. The Grudge, IMO, is a hair longer but has A stronger response to friction. About 2-3 less overall hook than the Grudge. This is what I see so far. Good call on the Freakshow! The new Vandal Smash has a lot of my customers excited too!

Thanks on the Freakshow, I really don't get excited on new balls but that motion looks great for that price point. The reason why I am asking is I am trying to replace a Infinite Theory Pin Down( 4 1/2 by 4) and with not being a staffer, It's been hard to find that same ball motion. But balls do look too close to call. I mean what's really $30.00 in purchase price?

Does the Hybrid light up like a christmas tree at glow in the dark bowling? xD
If it does, I'm sold, getting one :P
And then throwing it once or twice in the dark at practice days :P
-
Yes, all of the DV8 performance balls change color under black lights.
-
Aha, so that's why the balls on their page change color xD
Have always wondered why that meant :P
And I thought Roto Grip and Storm was the flashiest company :P
The Ruckus Feud must look cool going down the lane in the dark.

How does the Freakshow compare with the Radical Jackpot and the Brunswick Fanatic? Would it be a step down from those two for when the heads start to go or the lanes are hooking a bit more on fresh? Hard to tell with the information currently available.
-
Freakshow will be less hook overall and a bit more angular than a Jackpot. It could be a ball you can go to when the lanes become a little too dry.
-
Ok thanks. That's what I was hoping for. Moving to Brunswick family balls while switching to 14lbs and trying to fill in gaps. I have nothing slotted between the Jackpot and Rhino Pearl just yet, besides the BTU. But the BTU is mainly going to fill that urethane type need. About to head to the pro shop to get my initial 3 balls: Brainiac, Jackpot and Rhino Pearl.

Sounds like a solid plan, you are on the right track.
