I got a marauder and it is not reacting the way i thought it would. I have a versa max with 4000 and a next ball down is karma, pink/purple. I was hoping this would be the in between ball and it hasn't worked out yet for me. It gives me a ton of length and not the recovery that other people I've seen throw it get. I have the same drilling as my versa max. Any ideas??

Try knocking the "gloss" off the cover. I usually just put them at high speed on a spinner with water flowing and a 2000 pad so it doesn't change it too much at first.
Although it's a hybrid, most of them I've seen are more red (pearl) than yellow (solid) so they do need to find SOME friction and then it's a strong turn. Good luck.

+1......A friend of mine drilled one a couple weeks ago. What I dont like in the DV8 balls, is alot of there stuff has the same cover prep from the factory (500 abralon, rough buff, high gloss polish). So there isnt much separation from the Misfit, to the Reckless balls, to the Marauder. After seeing the lack of ball reaction from this ball, I decided to grab it from him and we hit it with a 1000 pad with Rough Buff (no high gloss polish) and now the ball easily hooks a full arrow more than it did, if not more. It was like unleashing the beast with this ball. I think the high gloss from the factory makes the ball squirty on the backend of the lane. After doing this to the Marauder, we took his Reckless and went up to 3000 abralon no polish to create some mroe separation from the Too Reckless. Dont be afraid to knock off the high gloss polish.

As stated above, don't be afraid to change the surface on any DV8 ball. They all respond to surface changes very well. I don't know if I have a single ball at the OOB surface. Shiny balls have better shelf appeal so companies tend to make the ball have more shine than maybe the ball needs, just so they shimmer on the shelf.
I have had luck with the Marauder at the surface that TWOHAND834 recommended. Rough Buff is a great surface to give you some push, but still pick up a roll, when High Gloss Polish is not working. I also had luck changing the surface to 500/4000/Rough Buff/Factory High Gloss. Essentially giving it more shine, by doing this the ball pushed more, but retained more energy and made a much stronger move when it read friction. My suspicion as to why this worked, is because the hybrid coverstock bled energy earlier than a pearl would at OOB, thus reducing strength at the break point. Might be an option if taking the surface down doesn't work.

Whats "Rough Buff"?
A very abrasive rubbing compound that will take a P500 grit surface to about P4000 grit but will take a P1500 grit to a P5000+ grit level plus add a degree of shine that polish normally puts on a ball. It is roughly equivalent to Storm's Step2 or Step 3 compound.
I am not sure why Brunswick calls it a "polish" since it doesn't "polish" until you get a fairly fine finish (~P1500 grit) on the ball.
Back in the days when Brunswick (& MoRich) used sandpaper (the days of the Vapor Zone ans the Shock and Awe), they would apply a 220 grit CAMI grade) sanding to the ball and then apply Rough Buff. This would bring the ball to a finish level where you had trouble, when looking at it, determining whether it had a polish on it or not. Even then it was around P3000 - P4000 grit matte or dull.
