Title: I wish DV8 would make...
Post by: Big Jake on April 05, 2013, 10:58:46 AM
I wish DV8 would make a Urethane...yes, oh! yes, that would be a good thing. Where I bowl it gets really dry in all of my 3 leagues by the ending of the 2nd game

and then of course by the 3rd game its almost desert but playable with a Urethane. Everyone has been complaining of late because of the terrible lane conditions.

Yesterday in practice I took my Urethane ball and tried it after the lanes were getting kinda toasty and BAM!! the Urethane was freaking magic. I was playing old skool, you know, just pipe it up the 5, or 7, or 8 board.

Even though I have a Urethane I would definitely get a DV8 one to carry on the DV8 name  8) ;D :)

Btw, me being an old fart I just cant throw my highly polished Misfit super-fast with any accuracy so thats why I tried my Urethane...just saying!!

Its not likely but you never know. You can get the Karma Urethane. Its a new urethane ball from the same plant as everything else.

Its so funny you say that.  I was at work thinking the same thing today.  I was thinking to myself that Im really so happy with the line of balls that really the only thing missing is a urethane.  Bowling international events and even some PBA patterns depending on the surface, urethane sometimes is the difference between cashing or not.  HMMM  Urethane Misfit.... Sounds great to me!!!

I don't see any reason you can't create a similar type reaction with    a resin ball. It might have slightly more angle hook a few boards more but no reason i see you couldn't get something like a madness to play a similar line with the right layout and the right surface. More angle equals more strikes....i understand the reason why people want to throw urethane but not gonna give you the carry percentage needed to hang with everyone else week in and out imo.....

When you see the desert I see, practices are too strong. Especially when playing up the boards. Besides, I understand sometimes people just want to throw a specific brand. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe he likes the misfit core more than the karma core.

Urethane plays pretty well in the heat of the summer here, so I can understand people wanting it. However, they can get better carry with a weak reactive, long pin-to-PAP drilled ball. Depends on whether you want to shoot at single pins all day, or gamble on reactive carrying the racks.

I'll double that thought.
I tried 2 Brunswick dry lanes balls: Avalanche urethane and Slingshot.
The Avalanche is not a pearlized urethane, it is also polished. Drilled the same, they hooked the same with the SS having much better carry.

A Storm Tropical Breeze is a great dry lanes ball, with variations of pin position allowing the user to reduce the strong backend of the Reactor pearlized coverstock. Slower ball speeds can use a longer pin-PAP, like 5" or more, while firmer ball speeds can use a shorter pin-PA,P like 1.5-2".

The only urethane I have ever used that truly hits like a resin is the original Seismic Desperado. I think its asymmetric core had something to do with its hitting power.

If you are looking for a dry lane ball in the DV8 line, I would suggest the Yellow Misfit Pearl with a 2.5" pin to pap drilling to kill the reaction a little. The Yellow Misfit Pearl is a good dry lane ball that will clear the front part of the lane and still give a strong backend reaction. If you are looking for a urethane ball, the Karma Urethane is a great choice. It has a lightbulb core and a stronger urethane base in the coverstock.

....I'll say it again, DV8 should make their own URETHANE ball. Btw, here is some companies that make them:

Brunswick - Columbia - Hammer - Roto Grip -  Storm - and now Motiv

It can be called "The Social Misfit"...

You can also add a flare reducing x-hole to help even more.

I wish DV8 had a urethane as well, and some resin balls for higher rev bowlers on dry-light conditions/short patterns. The Misfit Pearl is their weakest ball, and at 4000/polish, it is my benchmark on the house shot. And at the one house (where Jason K films his videos) it is still too much ball for me after about a game. I only bowl tournaments there usually, but I plan to bowl a summer league there this year. I did bowl a league there last year and I was forced to use my urethane balls most of the year.

I'm actually going to be looking at some of the weaker balls Storm is about to release next month. Planning to get the Lights Out, Super Natural, and Tropical Breeze. Plus picking up the Hammer True Blood to replace my banged up Taboo Spare. Probably going to be throwing mostly urethane/plastic over the summer there.

Last Saturday I switched to my natural when the lanes were shot after the 1st game..couldn't keep anything else right of the head pin.

Maybe a rubber ball since everyone else makes urethane. Take it to the next level.

I totally agree. In fact, today I ordered a Natural-Pearl to go along with my RotoGrip Grenade....so much for me throwing just DV8 gear  :o

If you are on DV8 regional 1 or 2 you can throw the karma urethane. I throw mine all the time. I don't feel any need for  DV8 version. Also find it hard to believe urethane is a desired reaction left of 7
