Title: Need advice on a second ball
Post by: Nick885 on February 12, 2013, 12:53:34 PM
I am throwing a brutal nightmare as my primary ball which is great in the first two games of my league. After that the lanes break down too much to keep a decent line. I have loved DV8 so far and would like to get another for my second ball to rely on for drier or broken down lanes. My speed is around 16.5 -17 and I throw 2 hands so plenty of revs. Any ideas of what might work for me? Been hearing some recommendations for a maurader madness or diva. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

Honestly if you are looking to get left and have a ball that wont quick on the breakdown, go with the Diva.  This ball is impressive.  Its so clean that on the breakdown, youll feel like its fresh.  The ball does not quit downlane.  You wont be disappointed with the Diva.

I'm gonna suggest the "Too Reckless" or the "Misfit"...both are very, very, good balls to have in ones arsenal when the lanes start to go...

I would suggest a Diva as well. The ball is amazing. I have had success with it on the fresh and when I need to get deeper to circle the lane. It is a very versatile ball and once it picks up at the spot, it doesn't quit. I have left my Diva in the box finish and haven't found an oil pattern or area on the lane that I can't play with it.

Since you're a two-handed bowler I'd suggest something a little more stable, like the Too Reckless with the gloss barely knocked off.  The Diva is strong, and the Neon Yellow Misfit may be hard to control the last few feet if the lanes are drier with your revs.  My guess is you'd see more contrast that way instead of seeing the same reaction with a different ball.

I bowl a second shift league weekly and can control a solid with a little shine easier than the pearls most weeks.  Good luck.

Hmm sounds like ill have to try out out the diva, too reckless, and misfit to give all 3 a fair chance- if I can get my hands on them. Thanks for the suggestions.

With your rev rate being on the higher side the Too Reckless would probably be the best choice with that ball speed.  It would give you some length with a strong move off of the breakpoint while giving you the right amount of control.  It would provide more contrast and a larger step down from your Brutal Nightmare.

Ill take that into account, thanks for your insight

I also throw two handed and have pretty much all the balls mentioned. I haven't really been able to use my Brutal Nightmare too much throwing two handed. I've been battling some shoulder problems, so my speed is down a bit.

With the heat being on in the alleys and helping to create more friction (and sooner), I've had issues trying to keep all of my balls right (right lane especially). The Diva has been a good, mostly controllable ball for getting deep. Just make sure you swing it out far enough because it's stronger than a lot of people realize. It is a step down from the Brutal Nightmare, but may not be enough of a step down for what you are looking for.

I'd probably go with the Misfit Pearl or Too Reckless. My MP is drilled Rico, so I haven't been able to use it as a step down piece on most conditions. The ball breaks hard (and earlier thanks to the rico). However, if you can get it down the lane far enough and out wide, it is a beast. I think if you drill it differently than I did, it may be an option.

I just got a Too Reckless last week and had it drilled a bit weaker. It definitely gets down the lane more than my other balls and still has good recovery. Might be your best option. For me, I still need something for late in the set - for now anyway. I'm probably going to go with a pin axis drilling on my next ball. Just trying to figure out what ball to put it on.

Sounds like we have some similar issues haha, and hope your shoulder heals quickly. I'm thinking whatever ball I do end up with I will likely drill the same as my bn. Something I can throw the same just allow it to go longer without sacrificing carry. It appears I have some trial and error ahead of me before I get it right.

The Marauder might be an option too. That ball gets overlooked with how good all the other pieces are.

The Maurader would be a great choice, I have had the Maurader for about 3 months now and I love it. I just bought the Brutal Nightmare and the are great togther.

From my understanding the marauder rolls early, is that true or will a normal pin up layout help it get down lane? Because balls that roll early have not worked well with me before.

It shouldn't roll any sooner than your brutal. It will just push further down the lane and not be as reaponaive to friction. You can go with a pin up layout if you are concerned about early roll.

I'd say either the Marauder or the Too Reckless.  The Too Reckless is designed to get more length than most solids but still have a good backend.

The Marauder is one of the more versatile balls in that lineup and could easily work for you too.
