Misfit drilling suggestions 5"pin
« on: December 18, 2012, 07:47:44 PM »
The tittle Say's it all. I received a DV8 Misfit (green and white) as a gift so no returning it. I was hopping someone here could give me a few suggestions on a good drilling for it!
My specs: Down and in, Revs 250 0r less, last PAP was 5 by 5, Speed 13 to 14 and up the back with not much tilt. I know I am forgeting something but as I get older I tend to do that. Please let me know if more is needed.
Ball specs: 15' 5oz-5"pin-1.7 top weight.
I am looking for some length on THS 30' light oil pattern and would like to not have an extra hole. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;D

With the 5" pin your limited some what if not wanting to add a weight hole. Depending on your span. Id put the cg near the thumb and that should put the pin above the fingers. Put the pin in the ball park of 4-5" from your PAP. With the cover on the Misfit at box finish the ball will be clean through the heads and is a strong reving down lane. So you should have no problem playing down and in or even belling the ball. With the cg near the thumb, I'd drill the thumb deeper and the fingers shallow to help keep the statics good with no x-hole needed.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Not a comment on the 5" pin, but on attacking this shot.  I think it might be difficult to get a lot of length from the Misfit on only 30-feet light oil.  I think the best way to approach this shot is with a drilling that allows the ball to bleed energy.  It will be difficult to control the Misfit with a length drilling on 30-feet of dry.

But if this is all you have, then I'll let the professionals help with the drilling information.

I agree that 30' is very short but with regard to drilling I say that you will want to use a long layout to avoid a hole in the ball something around 5-5.5 this should also help you make sure you get length on a short pattern. This length should be able to get the cg at least above the thumb but remember you dont want a hole so don't let the cg get to far away from the middle line keep within the area of your grip and you should be good. Good luck with it.
