Out of retirement and time to drill up some sh*t.
In the past, I've been bad about having a mish mash of brands, but I'd like to go with one company that has a consistent look. When I thought about getting back in there was some pressure from a friend of mine to jump back on the Storm/Roto Grip bandwagon, but they've been squirty to me in the past and I wanted a company that really seemed to have a little earlier rolling stuff. So, I figured I'd try Brunswicks with backend aka DV8.
I won't lie, I got a Brutal Nightmare strictly because it looked cool and I like the motion I saw on the vids. Problem is, it's wayyyy more that I need from the midlane on. I'd like something that reads smoother and not as violent downlane.
The Brutal (45 x 5 x 40) is long and looks like somebody kicks it at the breakpoint. Would be great on longer patterns or even situations where the heads start to go, but not want I want on a fresh condition.
Should I be looking at a Diva or Marauder? Could I punch up a Brutal with a more controlled layout and tweak the surface?
Dual angle wasn't around when I dropped out, so I'm still playing catch up. Still used to the old pin up/down and x" from PAP, so I may need a little help there.

I'd say diva or the og marauder. I absolutely love the marauder, box finish is oil allergic though. Diva is stronger and has a more even finish.I use a "t" pad from global and it's still snappy but contrallable.

I was actually looking at both of these. I would think with the buff finish, hitting it with some 4000 just to take the shine off wouldn't be a bad idea.
At the same time, I've already got a Misfit Pearl on order because I tend to go on drill binges. Since I'm still working on putting one foot in front of the other, I might hold off until later this summer.
Thanks for the feedback though.
I still kind of want to drill up another Brutal with a smoother layout and knock the cover down. You know, for giggles. 8)

The dv8 midline IMO is the best in all of bowling. Grab yourself a diva and a dude to go with your brutal and enjoy.

Personally speaking, the Diva is one of the best balls i have thrown my career. With mine being pin down, i am able to play anywhere from a swing on medium/light oil to a straighter line on medium/heavy oil.
I am actually looking at getting another to drill about the same, with more surface.

I would say get a diva or diva pearl depending on how angular you like your game...and a dude for lighter conditions. With your brutal you will have a three ball lineup to conquer anything

3 ball line up? You're funny.

Mongo, I would suggest using a Dude as your benchmark ball with a similar layout to your current Brutal Nightmare. Also, I would think that a 2000 surface on the Dude would be a good starting point to get that smoother reaction. Your other other thought of a Marauder Madness with a pin up and 4000 surface would be a good addition too. A good replacement if you can't find a Madness would be a Ruckus which would be a little stronger ball but similar reaction.
Your statement that the Brunswick balls start up early might have been true 5 years ago, but all of the newer balls get down the lane and still have a strong backend reaction. The R&D team has worked very hard to change the chemicals used in the coverstock to allow the ball to clear the front part of the lane. The DV8 line is more angular and more colorful than the Brunswick line.

Ian,
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, when I "retired" it was the days of the super heavy early rev Big B. I really like the changes they've made from what I've seen with the Brutal. It just sails through the heads, but isn't anything close to skid/flippy because the midlane read is so good and still so much movement downlane. In other words, tell your chemist geeks "Good Job".
In the end, I have no problem drilling up whatever I need, but I'm looking for solid/hybrid to pull out on the fresh that is as close to "in the middle" that I can find. I usually like to lean my benchmarks toward the stronger side just because like a smoother motion down lane. From what I've seen, I'm looking hard at the Diva with a control drilling (the old days, I'd say a pin down, 4 1/2" to 5" pin to PAP, and a little surface....still learning how that translates into Dual Angle)
I'm only 2 weeks back in. Still figuring out which foot to start with. Got a jump start when I shot 772 for my first league set in ~5 years, so my enthusiasm is a bit up.
Feel kind of bad since one of my college buddies is the Storm rep for my area, but I really like my early impressions with DV8.
Thanks again for the input.

How does the Diva compare to the IQ Tour Solid?
