Title: So I got a Yellow Misfit Pearl....now what
Post by: Mongo the Lefty on March 04, 2014, 06:19:25 PM
I'm a medium speed, LH tweener.  Just getting back and my ball speed isn't there yet (prob around 16 MPH right now, usually closer to 17-18), but it should be in the coming months.

I'd like something when I want to play the outside of the oil line on a house shot, but also something I can use on drier conditions and still have a little pop down lane.

Thought about a control drill with a pin at around 5".  I've really liked the pin down, longer pins for my benchmarks, but I don't want to kill the backends totally with the Misfit.

Suggestions?

Good Luck -- That ball hooks on friction....

Setup mines left handed and it still cant touch friction...

Also sanded up to 4000....

So, it's strong off the dry?  Does it hate oil completely?

The yellow misfit clears the fronts well and may have the quickest response to friction of any ball I have ever thrown.  It will likely be too angular for fresh oil/crisp backends, but once the lanes start to get toasty, this ball will impress.

Got mine thinking it would be good for fresh. WRONG.

It doesn't take much oil to get some slide out of it, but it does read drier friction areas, which caused it to be over/under on the fresh. Worked much better on the fresh after I took it down to 1000ab finish.

Thing is, I already had something for that, so it didn't get used much. I polished it back up, and used it up the dry track once the burn showed up.

When it is dry, this ball can be your friend.

So, if it hates oil and it that responsive, drilling for length will just be overkill?

Fellow lefty here.  It sounds like you will want to control the quick response to friction a little.  From what I have learned, a larger VAL angle ( = pin down ) would be best.  Pin to PAP longer.  Add some surface (1000-2000).  If your release stats are fairly normal, I would vote for pin under the bridge area and CG tipped out towards PAP a little.  But I will defer to the experts if they have a better idea....

I have the red orange drilled for length and it is very angular on fresh. When lanes are dry up front and have carry down in the back is when the ball works best .

The Yellow Pearl Misfit has a pearl cover and works best on lighter oil conditions. Or, for when the you need a ball to get further down lane but is strong when reaching the friction. This ball has a very quick response to friction. The box surface will have problems with medium oil conditions if there is no defined friction, and will not work well in carry down. I would suggest a pin up drilling with 4" - 5" from your axis and use it for what it was intended for when the lanes break down. I have mine drilled pin up and use it when I need to throw it to the friction later in a tournament.

Being LH, I'm not going to see fried heads much at all, but what I am going to see are "shrinking lanes"  i.e.  the righties are chewing the heads and pushing the lefties into a tighter zone on the left.

I'm looking for something that will handle mid/late conditions where I'm in a tight spot and can't move in because the heads are gone.  If I can use it to play a light angle up the oil line on a house shot....or even off the dry up into the oil on a medium house shot, that's a bonus.

Does that help?

I am going to get bashed but I would say its stronger than the Nightmare when it hits friction...  Light oil would be ideal for this ball but if the lanes are toast Good Luck.... Drill it weak and really not that much backend is my suggestion..

You won't get bashed I understand what you mean. Actually it seems the misfits have a much faster response to friction as the nightmare has a slower response . However the nightmare has the strong midlabe read that makes a oil ball.

Thanks all.

I went with a control drill (pin under ring w/CG kicked out or 60 x 4 1/2 x 65).  We'll see what happens.

Got it cheap off the eBay and getting it punched as a favor.  I've blown more on worse things if iti doesn't work.

Will post review if it doesn't suck.

I have to admit I love the neon yellow, but, man, that was a bitch to mark up.

Ended up having to use a Sharpie.....hope I can get that off.

Update.

You guys were not kidding.  Ball hates any viscosity and destroys dry.  Definitely not the solution for anything resembling fresh.

I can see where it would be great on lighter oil/burnt stuff, but it was a bust on the league fresh.  Could swing from the moon so long as I hit the dry, but man-o-man, anything close to the oil and I was looking at a bucket or worse.

....but it sho' looks purty going down the lane.

Yeah, but I didn't know how right you were.  It will have a place in my bag, but probably not in my "league bag".
