Will The Hellraiser work For Lower Revs
« on: November 30, 2011, 09:07:17 PM »
I was wondering if anyone with lower revs are having any luck with the Hellraiser. I got a Nexus solid and haven't had any luck at all with it. I think it is mainly the drilling. I got it pin up and it never makes the turn for me so I was thinking of trying a Hellraiser pin down to get into a roll earlier. I have seen some reviews that said if you don't have a lot of speed and revs you won't like a Hellraiser. I throw the ball around 15-15.5 and have medium revs. Everything I own is pin up so I want to try something pin down to see if I can get something to read the mids better on the heavier oil.

Either the Nexus or Hell Rasier will work. Both are big hooking bowling balls. May want to try playing with the surface some of your Nexus as well. Yes having the pin down would also help since some of the general charicteristics of a pin up is for length with a quicker reaction to friction.

AFAIK, both Hell Raiser an Nexus balls are similar in basic design, with a coverstock that is clean up front and with a higher RG core that saves energy for a late reaction. IMHO, when the Nexus, as dedicated oil ball, does not work OOB, the Hell Raiser won't be your answer. It needs some dry area to cling to and work, it is not a rolly mid lane ball. It CAN handle heavier oil volumes, but I am sceptical if it is the right thing.

I'd also go with surface changes on your Nexus first, roughing it up. You might even consider a balance hole which might promote an earlier roll. Otherwise, if finishing is your issue, maybe watch out for a lower RG ball, which will easier deliver its energy.

the nexus and hellraiser are supposed to be "oilers", do you think that the condition you are using the nexus on is just too light..?? if there is not enough oil on the heads the ball will roll right off you hand and never turn ever.. maybe it is not making its turn down lane b/c its reading too soon..

That's probably what is happening. Anything that I try sanding at all tends to go straight.
