Does anyone think this ball will outhook my Strike Zone? Would it be a good replacement for my Scorchin'?

As far as being able to use it as a benchmark..well sure you could.  When you throw it, it hooks at your feet, then dies out at 30...you'll know that there isn't enough oil for this one, and you must get something weaker

Why would you choose a heavy oiler as a benchmark? I have not thrown mine yet, but just looking at the specs and reviews would tell you its way to stong and early to use as a benchmark. just my $.02

There's a reason that D/T has Steve as their ACE Staffer, he makes all of the equipment perform on the condition that they were designed for. If he was using the Threshold it was because that ball gave him the best chance to score well on that pattern,..so if the ball looked good, you answered your own question. On the right condition, when thrown correctly, the ball will do exactly as advertised. As for the coverstock,..out of the box this ball read WAY TOO EARLY for me,..I took the surface to 1000 abralon and the ball was exactly what I wanted,..a strong, heavy arc, rolling, oil ball.  "Benchmark"(*Bm) is in the eyes of the beholder,..some guys Bm ball is their hookingest ball they own,..they start with that and then work their way down the ball chain,..others start with a 'middle of the road' ball and then go up or down depending on the conditions,..
This is a very strong, asymetrical, particle ball. This ball is made to cut through oil, and still create sufficient entry angles to let you play different parts of the lane as necessary.
I don't know if this ball will "outhook" your strike zone, nor be a good replacement for your Scorchin, But if you're looking for a great ball for oilier conditions this is a super choice.

I used one on a 42 foot almost sport 3.5:1 ratio and moved 2 boards left and right of starting across 12 lanes averaged 242 and won $1600... I opted for a midlane drill and never gave up the pocket... it is by far the most versatile heavy/long condition ball they have ever made IMHO...

Hey WLooBowler,

If your guy said that ordering a Dyno would get "pricey", then please allow me to suggest something to you.

I would suggest that you send a PM to "tekneek".  His name is Steve and he runs a pro shop in Texas.  I have had a few dealings with him and I am pretty sure that Steve would probably be able to take good care of you.  Steve has sold me some great equipment (most notably a Dyno Element ZR40) at what I would consider a more than fair price.

Tekneek's a good guy with great prices on DT stuff.  The shop here just got taken over by an actual knowledgeable driller, but when I talked to him last night after league, he wanted $200 for a CM or Energy, before inserts.  Over $220 with inserts.  I'd really like to use him, as it'd mean saving a two hour (one-way) trip to another shop, but even with gas prices like they are, it's cheaper to buy from Steve and bring it in than pay his prices.

Thanks Jim... What amazed me the most is how there was no drastic change in reaction... I usually can't move a lot with particle balls... but this ball let me move left and right... the oil absorption was amazing on this cover and the bite on the back was superior... From the ZR40 on, love every release!

I'd love to set up my military retirement like Mitch Beasley did... That's very cool!
