Backend ball
« on: April 25, 2005, 08:44:25 AM »
I am curious as to what you all would recommend for a ball and drilling which would create a strong, continuous backend.  My ball speed is 16-17 mph, medium revs, fairly high track.  Bowl on old wooden lanes mostly.  Oh yeah, right handed.

Currently have:
Element
Vendetta black solid
Thing returns
crisis pearl

I knw the thing returns is supposed to have a strong backend but mine doesnt all that much.  it's drilled with pin below bridge with cg kicked out 1"- 2" with no balance hole.  Had an element au 79 drilled similar to the thing returns but could not get anything consistent.  if it was left polished it was VERY condition sensitive.  Sanded it used energy too early and hit weak.  actually had that problem polished and sanded.  so if anyone has ideas let me know.  i was thinking energy but not real sure.  thanks for all the help.

Are you sure the Vendetta Black Solid is not your answer? How is it drilled?
I would highly recommend The Thing Lives.

pin below ring finger cg kicked about 1/2 inch.  it works well on medium oil but gives more of an even roll than a skid/ snap.  dont get me wrong, the ball works awesome but not the look im going for.

I got the reaction you're looking for out of my polished Anomaly and my polished Thing Lives. The Lives handled a bit more oil. I think either one would work for you there.

I would recomend the AU79. Mine gets through the heads clean and has a very strong back end that almost everytime gets back to the pocket

I havent really heard all that much about the High Energy.  when is that going to be released to the public.  I'll definately take that drilling into consideration.  Esp. since i'm having a lot of bad luck with cover, core, and pin below the fingers.

I have actually gotten rid of my AU79 within the last week.  Once again it was not working for me.  I believe it was the drilling itself combined with my roll on the ball.  I especially believe that since the guy i sold it to shot 300, 268 with it the night he bought it.

thanks for all the help everyone
