Anomaly---check this out!!!!
« on: January 18, 2004, 11:21:56 PM »
I still have not posted a review on this ball, but I wanted to let everyone know what I am getting out of it.

At the risk of making some mad-----some totally disagree, here goes:

I just do not see this ball being the big hook "monster" that so many are calling it. I left it in box condition for awhile and saw nothing but a strong backend movement out of it. I have it drilled up pretty strong. Before anyone says anything, the ball was not and is not burning up. I know the reaction when a ball burns up, this is not the case with The Anomaly. I have the lay out 4x4(closer to 3 3/4). This thing hooks much less than my Phenom, Phenom Unleashed, Fear Factor and Raging Inferno. This is after even taking the ball down to 800 grit wet sand, and then to 600 grit wet sand.

In reality the best comparison I can give of this ball is the THING. In Box it was about as strong as the THING, sanded down it only about 4 boards stronger or so. I put this ball overall on the same "hook" ability as the Inferno (pearlized reactive).

I posted this not to bash the ball, because I definately have a spot for it in my arsenal, but it is not filling the spot that I thought it would. When it is thrown on the proper condition this ball is a terror. The proper condition for this ball is fresh backends, once the carrydown comes or the lanes start to "slop" up, this thing goes back into the bag.

The only option I have is to contact Dyno~Thane and see if they have any suggestions for the coverstock to make this ball move. If this is the best "oil" ball that they have to offer, everything else must be pretty weak. With all of that said, I am not going to post a review until I have more games on the ball. I want like hell for this ball to work the way I have it set up for, but instead of oil being its friend, it absolutely hates oil.

I sold mine why is still hot my v2 strong is 15 boards stronger and it is not even close to my addiction. In fact the thing returns hooks as much but later but just as much , just my opinion so dont slam me because you say me and my coach Bill Hall do not know what condition to use it on it was not burning up and frankly is junk!!

I do not own a D/T ball, but I have "heard" that as the soaker coverstock absorbs more oil and begins to track out, it reacts better.

I believe BTM said this ball has a strong midlane read and large backend movement.  Would you agree Excalibur?

Anomaly should be big from break point to pocket I would think.  I do not believe it would be big prior to mid lane or get in an early roll.  If you wanted that type of reaction I would have gone with something like a Burgandy Particle Gryphon.

For me, the Element is stronger.

Scott------It goes much past the midlanes. It does have a strong backend, as long as there is no oil there. If there is a trace of carry down, it will not continue.

It does track out pretty quick!!!

At this point, I am probably 15 or so games in with the ball, it has tracked up pretty good already, and it has not shown this "come to life" reaction that I have heard from some.

I think it would be best suited for 1500 polish and a length ball with backend, but the backens have to be clean.

EX- With the four balls you already have for oil why in the world would you want another "oil (hook) monster"? What spot in the arsenal were you looking to fill?

Due to my ball speed I prefer balls that allow me to open up the lane. I currently do not have the Phenom any longer.

I have each of the balls listed drilled in a different manner. I wanted more length (which I got) out of the Anomaly, so it would recover through the oil when there is carrydown. I hardly use the Fear Factor. The Unleashed gets good length and has a tremendous backend----but I like the surface I have on it, 1500smooth, so I did not adjust it at all. The Raging rolls up a little sooner than the Unleashed, so it works well when there is carrydown, BUT at times depending on the way the lane transitions it will roll up too soon.

I have other equipment that I use----such as the Hex Darkside (which was stolen and the new one needs drilled), for when I need length and backend on fresh conditions. I have a MoRich Pioneer for when the the lanes are fried. I also have an Inferno which has currently taken the place of my stolen Darkside.

With my balls speed, dull equipment works well. The Phenom is the biggest hooking ball I have ever thrown, and it worked well for my game. I buy alot of bowling balls----that is what I do, and I enjoy doing it. SO--the Phenom had to go in order for me try other stuff.

As stated, I am not at a total loss with the Anomaly-----I am going to adjust the surface alittle more for tonight and see how it goes.

Brunswick Freak 2---

It is close to leverage, but the pin is high. BUT tell me, if it is close to leverage, shouldn't this ball start up sooner and be able to have continuation in carrydown? This ball does not read or roll in the midlane. More than anything, it is probably just not a good match for my game.

I did not get a chance to throw it tonight, the Unleashed was working far too well for me 733, and won $200 in eliminators, jackpot, and brackets, so I think I made the correct choice.
