My Threshold....Need Some Help
« on: August 30, 2006, 07:04:21 PM »
Hi all.  I won a ball raffle and decided on the Threshold. This is how it's layed out:

I am a lefty (obviously) stroker, with medium speed and revs.  I had a chance to throw this on the shot I'll typically be throwing on, and noticed that it was somewhat burning up (although not nearly as bad as I thought).  I think the drilling is too strong on it for a player like myself. (this isn't how I wanted it layed out, but that's another story).

I love the looks of this ball, and I have the thumb hole worked out perfectly, and I just don't want to have to plug it and redrill it....so I'm wondering what I should do to be able to use it more effectively?

My initial thought is to put it in a newer Brunswick Ball Polisher that they have at the bowling alley.  I did this with my Ultimate Inferno's, and they became beasts on the shot I'm on now.

What do you Dyno-Thane experts think of my idea?  I would stick it in there for 2 minutes, because that's what I did with the UI's and like I said, they became monsters on a lot of shots that I ran into last season.

Any advice is welcomed.  I am not very experienced with surface adjustments, so anything will help.

Thanks!

I do not suggest putting it into a polish machine. If you don't have a spinner, take it to your proshop and have him add a light coat of polish. If that does not give you enough length, have him take it up to 1200-1500 grit and no polish. Still not enough length, add some polish to the new 1500 grit surface. If that still is not giving you enough to keep it from burning up, then you are not using this ball on enough oil. I have mine drilled almost identical to yours, except my pin and CAP are on the correct side(RH).

This ball really needs alot of head oil to work. Once you get it to clear the heads good though LOOK OUT!!!!

Stephen,
try having the cover prep changed to 2000 grit abralon, this will help keep the ball from burning up but still allow the ball to move on the backend, without the over under you would get from adding polish. Take your time , it takes a short pewriod of time to find the correct cover prep to enhance your game and match the oil pattern you're bowling on.

p.s. stay way from the house polishing machines !!!!!!!

STEP AWAY FROM THE MACHINE!!!!

Do as they say and take it to the pro shope please!!
Once they go into the machine they never seem to be the same ever again.

I will try the 2000 Grit, but what's so bad about the House Polishing Machines?  Like I said I used them before on my Ultimate Inferno's and each one worked out perfectly for me.

unless the house checks the machines peroidicaly they tend to run out of polish, can damage the ball if the buffers are worn and I have seen the rollers wear to the point they damage the ball. They use more of a wax than polish, not the recommended polish the manufacturer suggest you or the PS use.

I know the older ball machines use a wax...and I didn't like that one bit.  The one I used on the Ultimates made it really nice and shiny....oh well...I'm still going to have my pro shop guy take it to 2000 grit abralon and see how I like that.

Thank you for the help!

You beat me to it Steve.  In the house where I bowl, they have Brunswick machines.  I have seen a few balls have chunks removed from them, and I have also seen balls with either so much wax/polish it is still smeard on the side of the ball, or no polish put on at all.  It's just a bad idea.  PS is a much better choice.  Leave it to a professional.
