I know they say Soakers don't die.....
« on: March 03, 2006, 09:51:12 PM »
I'll give a bit of background before I get into the details of my problem.

I have thrown nothing but Dyno-thane for the last 2 years.  My arsenal consists of an Element AU79, Anomaly & an Energy.
Specs as best as I can describe are 16.5-17mph ball speed; med-high revs
Most of the time I stand just to the right of the center dot, ball crosses the arrows at 10, out to 5 at the breakpoint & comes into pocket very nicely.

Now for my problem:

Over the course of a 3 game set, I've had the same routine - Start with the Au79 till the lanes start to dry out, then switch to the Anomaly until it begins to burn up & leave alot of weak taps; then I'd switch to my Energy (never really saw this as the power ball it was claimed to be, but on a very dry condition it holds the line better than anything else I have)

But the last couple times that the Anomaly comes out of the locker, it goes right back in!  It absolutely will not hook anymore.  I don't mean it got weak, it got STRAIGHT!  I tried some different hand positions, slowing it right down; but if I throw my shot as described above, it'll pick the 6-10 damn near every time.

Afraid it was just me, I gave it to a teammate who throws a very big rainbow, gutter to gutter type of shot to see how it would peerform for him, and similar to what I had experienced the ball just never turned the corner.

I think the ball probably has about 200 games on it.  Is there any way to revive the cover on this ball?  Maybe it needs a resurfacing?  I was giving it a light cleaning about once a month with "Pro Cleaner" (some pink crap our proshop sells) just to get the black gunk off the cover; but It never seemed to bother it or any of my other Dynothane equipment before.

Anyone have any ideas?  I'd hate to have to toss this ball out because it's been my benchmark ball for a long time.

The best method I have found for cleaning my soakers is a little dawn and a bucket of hot tap water. The process has been described on here a few times. I would try this and if you have 200 games on the ball especially if they where on wood lanes it might be do for a resurface just to remove the track in the ball. If I can help out anymore feel free to pm me.

The Anomaly was originally made for heavy oil.  By throwing on lanes which are much too dry, you're probably just experiencing early burn and roll out.

In the mean time, give it a good cleaning.  A good resurfacing and probably a dose of polish would help as well.

I had an Anomaly and Strider is spot on...

Drrev, according to the "Guys" their formula does not have excess plasticizers... So no ball death...

Let me put it this way... They wear in the track like most other covers... except they don't loose reaction in the track like most other covers...

I have had a couple resurfaces done on a Thing Lives and it is as actually stronger now than out of the box... I am a Clinical Laboratory Director by trade... so I never argue with good chemistry... especially if I can personally validate it!
