Title: Which Ball?
Post by: Matt Fortney on March 10, 2005, 03:08:02 PM
I recently acquired a zone classic. i like the ball, but it's not what i thought it was going to be. my pap is 5 1/2 right, 3/4 up. i have it drilled pin above bridge cg kicked out a touch, mb right of thumb. what i'm wondering is, which dyno thane ball, with the same layout will have kind of a skid/snap reaction. i bowl on med. oiled wood lanes. lmk please.

I have a Thing Lives, AU79, and a Thing Returns with that type drill, all can be used for skid'flip on the right shot,..the AU and the TR both have bal-holes on the VAL,..the TL no x-holes...jim

That drilling on a Zone Classic should be very skid/snap for almost every one.  I've seen it; seen it with very mild drillings and it's still VERY skid/snappy! Makes me wonder a lot, about what's happening with yours and what your release is really like and what are the actual oil patterns AND the lane surface.

Few balls on  true medium conditions are as skid/snap as a Zone Classic.

oh it skids that's for sure, but as far as the snap it lacks a little bit. it makes kind of an arc but i throw it...half a game and there's too much carrydown to throw it it won't make the move at all anymore.

Try a Thing Lives with that drilling, and polish it up for maximum skid flip.  If you have any hand at all, that might be uncontrollable, next step down would be an Energy (polished), next step down would be a Pearl Vendetta.

Matt,
I think that ball is very strong for you, although it may not exactly be the snap that expected on the back end, it hit like a dream for you last Monday. You may want to polish it and see if that makes it snappier. If you do end up selling it, give me first shot at it.
