I drilled it with the pin under my ringer finger and the cg kicked out towards my axis, around 3 1/2 or 3 3/4. Small weight hole to keep it legal.
They were on fire last night. The heads still had some oil but burnt from there.
The Afterburner was able to get to about 40 feet before makes a smooth controlled turn to the pocket. What I was expecting was a limp ball when it got to the pocket because of burn up from the overly dry lane condition, but this ball was able to retain enough energy to explode the pocket.
I think that will be a medium to light oil ball, and scuffed can probably hold its own in some medium to heavy oil conditions. This ball revs up pretty good, and hits hard when it gets to the pocket.
On a scale of 1-10, I would give the ball a 7. I think that you are going to need to keep the ball speed up so that this ball will hold the line. Since I was bowling on extreme dry last night, the ball showed as soon as I got a little slow with it, or pulled it. I think this is another great addition the the Vortex line, and I have to say that Ebonite is doing a great job, hitting their bowlers needs.

I stand on the 5 board and head the ball for the 3 pin (I pin bowl) and the ball jumps to the pocket right at impact. Like all proactive balls it gives great PIN action and the thing I like most, is the fact that you can establish a line and continuously throw it and KNOW your hitting the pocket. Coming in light on the head pin will still carry due to the good mix you will ALWAYS get.
Tremendously happy with the ball .. when bowling the lanes were fairly dry ..

We had a specific need in mind when laying this ball out, due to the rev challenged status that i have attained i was looking for a ball that would clear the front and store enough energy when the lanes really started to go bye bye.
So we started by altering the surface, first some "quicksand" from ebonite to give us a consistent starting point then an application of particle polish followed by extender polish(all EBONITE products).
used a 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 layout with a small hole 1 inch past the pap and it was time to hit the lanes. this ball has been just what the ball rep ordered -
clearing the heads with ease and retaining energy so that as we have to move left the ball delivers plenty of HIT. the afterburner has quickly become a "go to" ball in second shift leagues and 4th and 5th games in tournament blocks.
looks like just another winner from - the good folks at EBONITE.

After some line up shots along the 10 board, I needed to move inside because the ball would just turn across the heads too sharply. I then played down the 3rd arrow(which is pretty far inside for me) and found my line. I was able to hold this line and had good carry, pulling out a 240 game.
I believe that this is a "condition-specific" ball out of the box and will be best for most house league shots. I don't think the ball will play very well on floods or deserts and it isn't designed for that. Once lined up, the ball was easy to control, carried well and I could play the same line for a continued period of time without needing to adjust.
I believe that this ball will be a great complement to my Pantera when the Pantera is too much ball for the lanes. I will be trying the Afterburner on my next Wed league 1st shift synthetic lanes next week and may add a follow-up to this review. At this point, I believe this to be another good "condition specific" ball from Ebonite.

. i play a fairly strait up outside line with this ball and it is working. i reciently shot a new high game of 257, and my first 600 series with it.

I borrowed my friends Afterburner after he sanded it b/c the polished surface just wasnt doin anything for him. Well he may not have liked it too much but i sure as hell did. I shot 224 my only game with it. No complaints here. When this ball is sanded, good things happen for me. For my friends who threw it, there wasnt much of a difference, for me MUCHO difference. It had the ripping backend of the polished surface along with the tremendous roll of a dulled ball. Once i found a line, KACHING and an occasional BOOYA! I might take it from him if he still isnt pleased withthe results, but for now I'll settle for knowing that there is a ball out there that i have a 224 average with!

My Afterburner is 4x4 with a 3" pin. The pin is to the left and under the ring finger and the cg is in the thumb quadrant (rev lev).
I bowl on a late league where the lanes are usually heavy to medium oil with carry down. Last night I stood between 25-30 and played between 3rd and 4th arrows and was in the pocket all night long. There were no big games (no 300s or 279s); not the fault of the ball but the bowler. I must say I was very impressed with the ball reaction on that type of condition by this ball being for medium to drier condition.
All and all I must say....THANKS EBONITE!....I give this ball an 8 on a scale of 1-10.

Ball with 3.5" pin to PAP. 2 oz. TW. Drilled axis leverage, with cg on axis, pin under and close to ring finger. Dulled ball with green scotchbrite. Too early on roll and rolled out on fresh house dress. High shined with Black magic. Too much skid. Went back to green scotchbrite and lite shine with 800 grit polish.
This is a killer on a normal houseshot with some carrydown. Just watch the speed.

I have slow ball speed and would be considered a stroker.
I bought this ball to be a step-down companion to my Vortex II. It has been that and more. I can go to the Afterburner when the Vortex II begins to show signs of early roll or when it is just too much ball on the back end. I have been able to go to the Afterburner with a lot of success staying in relative the same spot. I lose nothing on the back end as this ball will turn the corner and hits very well. So long as there is some dry to help it turn over on the back, this ball is very good.
I would recommend this ball for medium to drying medium conditions.

Bowled full fingered straight ball for several years and bought a used Afterburner with fingertips.. My average has gone from 168 to 195! in 2 months. This ball is great for me; I just stand on 20 (left foot) and hit the second arrow. Have bowled several 240+ games in the last few weeks. The best ball Ive thrown so far...first 700 series 04-16-04

Very forgiving ball, very similar to my EMB XF. The Afterburner is punched up with the Pin an inch and a half above my bridge and the CG kicked out (3 in. pin). Gave it a very smooth transition from midlane to backend, hitting power was exceptional (better than expected) and again, ball was very forgiving. Came polished and had no success but then on the good word of a friend I put a little surface on the ball and WOW. Attempted to get the same reaction out of my v2 but had NO success whatsoever. The EMB XF is a more similar ball being the same type of coverstock (particle pearl). While I still used my Afterburner (before it died) it was easily my favorite ball and shot my high game (288) and series (746) with it. Ball has lost its intended reaction now and is taking up space in my basement.
