Apex Particle Resin
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ebonite International, Inc., announces the introduction of the Apex Particle
Resin. The ball is available immediately and cleared for PBA regional
competition beginning January 12 and national competition January 15. The
Apex features a two-cores-in-one design, combining the high flare attributes
of an hour-glass cylinder core and a smoother reacting light-bulb core. The
light-bulb core is offset from the pin at a 65 degree angle (5 inches on the
surface of the ball), creating the BOMB influence. The Bomb is in the down
position, or on the same side of the ball as the center of gravity. This
allows the core to be drilled to create the standard strong rolling mass
bias drillings as well as the ability to be drilled to create the longer,
stronger hook characteristics of a symmetric ball. The Big Easy cover stock
is a lighter load particle resin, designed to bridge the gap between
particle cover stocks and reactive cover stocks. The specifications are:
Factory Finish: 15 micron sanded Big Easy( particle resin; Color: Two tone,
Reflex Blue and Red Hot; RG Rating (actual): 16 lbs.-2.478, 15 lbs.-2.475,
14 lbs.-2.527; Differential (actual): 16 lbs.-.042, 15 lbs.-.047, 14
lbs.-.044; Mass Bias (BOMB): .012; Flare Potential:  high; Length: scale 1
to 10 (early to late) with factory finish: 3.10; Backend: scale 1 to 12
(least to most): 11.8; Overall Hook: scale 1 to 23 (least to most)
dull/shiny: 22.2 dull/ 14.1 shiny; Breakpoint Angle: scale 1 to 10 (smooth
to sharp): 7.5; Best Lane Condition: Medium oil to heavy oil.

Had one drilled at the Nationals at Reno specifically for that shot.  We bowled team at 7:30 on fresh oil and the ball worked great.  My scores wern't great only because I purchased a 15# ball and wanted to tug it all the time after using a 16# ball for 45 years.  Had enough strikes, but missed many spares by the ball hooking past or chopping.  Opened in 6 out of 9 10th frames.

Reaction was excellent on the synthetic lanes with plenty of backend snap and power.  This ball will be excellent for oily lane conditions.

Used it for 3 games on the house shot (35' oil length, wood lanes, and dry backends) and the ball really snaps.  Will keep it in the locker until I see heavy oil.

All I can say is WOW.
This ball hits like a hippie van and hits like a freight train.
In all my years of bowling I have never seen a ball that gets as much pin action no matter what speed, angle, or pocket.  It doesn't even have to hit a pocket, the result is almost always the same. . . BOOYA!
Since getting this ball from Brust's Bowling Supplies in So. Levittown, NY my game has never been the same.  I have shot a 277, several upper 250's, and some other games in the 220 to 240 range.  My biggest improvement was in strikes and the only flaw I can find with this ball is that it must be accompanied by a plastic ball or else.  That's right say "Bye, Bye" to any hopes of hitting a ten pin if you don't have spare ball.  Other than that this ball is LA BOMBA (for those of you who don't speak spanish, la bomba means "the bomb").  I give it a 9.5 out of 10, Good Job Ebonite and Bob Brust is a drilling GOD!

I had this ball drilled weak, with the pin and cg on the line from the bridge to the thumb, with bomb under the thumb.  I played this ball mostly inside, where it had some oil to work with, because my pro told me it'd be lousy in dry.  Well, in the oil, it's great.  Hits harder than anything I'd ever thrown.  Moving outside, it wasn't as disappointing as I expected.  The recovery on the dry outside was good, but the carry wasn't as good.  I'd say this is probably a great ball on oil, just an average on the medium.  I'd guess it'd be good on your sport shot too.  Get this one for oil, and watch the pins fly.
We call it a "solid 10" to make ourselves feel better.

Had my 15# apex drilled for max hook and left it with the box finish.  The pin is 1" below the ring finger and the cg is 2" below that.  There is a balance hole to the right of the bomb.

I dont think the ball was drilled right because this is the only ball i have ever thrown that i roll over the thumb.  But the few shots it didnt, it hooked hard and crushed.  I should have got it redrilled but it is too light so i sold it.

Have had this ball for about 2 months and have been using it off and on with my 2001 Hammer in leagues for the past 3 weeks.  This week shot 708 Monday and 736 Friday playing from 12 out to 5 and back with a tremendously long down lane skid/roll and powerful snap on the back end.

The shot was changed at the beginning of the league season to 38 ft of oil heavy from 15r to 15l and feathered to the channel, but on wood lanes.  This ball goes very long with standard drilling, but still produces very hard snap and drive through the pin area.

By far the best ball and better yet easiest ball to control I've ever owned.

4 1/2 x 1 drilling
pin just to right of ring
and bomb kicked way left(LH)

I think it is drilling #2
Large hole 1" past PAP drilled into locator pin.

Ball is very versatile on everything but heavy oil.

The cover soaks up oil very fast (clean nightly)

A good first ball out of the bag.
It reads midlanes very well, and still retains
enough energy to drive hard on the backend.

I like this ball a lot( and I dont just say this about every ball
like some on here)
This is another case of the 1st one being better than the 2nd.
But that is another review.

Drilled Stack leverage.
Great ball with out of the box surface.  Used it in this condition until I had to clean, mistake was to polish it.  Suddenly the reaction was super flippy in the backend.  Brought it back to factory default surface, again it sits in my bag.
Ball has strong aggressive arc/hook.  Carry is great and provides margin of error.
Haven't used Ebonite for over five years.  Won this baby in a raffle.  It has opened my eyes back up for the big E.

I POLISHED THIS BALL OUT OF THE BOX AND DRILLED IT WITH THE PIN ABOVE THE RING FINGER. FOR A PROACTIVE BALL THIS BALL DOES NOT HOOK. THIS BALL POLISHES TO A HIGH GLOSS VERY EASILY. ITS GETS AMAZING LENGTH AND IS EXTREMELY SNAPPY. I PUT A 10 MICRON FINISH ON THE BALL AND IT HOOKS BUT IS NOT PREDICTABLE AT ALL. THE BALLS BREAKPOINT IS DIFFERENT EVERY SHOT. I DO NOT SUGGEST THIS BALL FOR HEAVY OIL.

I have just purchased the APEX.  I normally do not use a new ball in league play first.  I generally practice with it for about 10 games or so.  But I thought well the hell.  My main ball was the trimax II.  But it did'nt have the comeback power on oiler lanes.  My Apex is drilled with the bomb 3 1/2" from the thumb.  About 4 o'clock next to my counterweight hole.  CG is 1/2" to the right of my ring finger.  Anyway I never practiced with it at all and shot my regular line which is about 5 boards left of the far left dot and shot 17 board out to 7 board before the APEX started throwing wood splinters from the lane.  This ball is THE @*&$.  If you know what I mean. I am a 205 average bowler and shot 669.  I know that is not all that great, but remember never practiced with at all.  Highly recomened from JR Kyle. It will clear the deck gaurenteed...

I was looking for a ball that moved a great deal. Well I got one. Throwing this ball was an experience. It moved unlike any ball I own. The pin is just above and off of the ring finger, with the bomb logo and the CG in a stack parallel to my track. With a small weight hole under my axis point to get some top weight. This ball moves well and hits like a truck going through the rack. I`ve left more 9 pins than anything else with this ball. It will jump early if you short arm it, so getting long will be a priority. This should be the first ball out of the bag for a lot of people. A solid entry.

Update
Still drilled stack leveraged

Condition ball, but what isn't nowadays, but let me tell you that this is the ball to use when I could use it.  Pocket carry confidence is high, I think the highest out of all my equipment, 2nd but still luv it is my 3D Violet offset

I have two of this ball with two drillings.  The first one has a 3 1/2" pin from my axis drilled on center line from CG with bomb just above thumb. This ball as a very nice roll to it.  I can hook this ball and it just rolls up to the pocket with a very predictable hook point.  The other drilling has a 6" pin from my axis point above left of my middle finger drilled on center linn from CG with bomb drilled out.  This ball is good for going at least 3 to 5 boards less hook than the other one.  I like this drilling for when they start to hook and also for up the boards on medium oil.

WOW!!!  This ball rocks!!! This was the first particle ball I had ever purchasedso I was a little optomistic. Boy, was I pleased. I drilled this one up between the #2 and #3 drillings, with about 1/2 pos. The ball worked well all night on the league shot. If I played well inside it held and if I threw it out to the ditch it had no problem coming back. I shot 265 for my second game. This ball is definately a 10.

I also own an Apex intensity and an El Nino' X-it.  This Apex is my goto ball in heavy oil.  It has a strong overall reaction and hits like a truck.  Pin sits just below and to the right of my ring finger with the bomb to the right of my thumbhole.  This ball seems to open up the lanes for me when I see the heavy stuff.  Works great with they are oiled long.  I am able to miss a bit right and still this ball with come back and come with a vengence.  nice arcing motion to the pocket.  Much stronger overall reaction than the intensity, and this ball carries almost as well.  Only problem I have with this ball is that it needs a lot of oil to be useful.  Too dry outside or screaming backends and you can leave this one in the bag.  Heavy oil with a bit of carrydown and this is a great ball for the task.  Way to go on this on Ebonite.  I'm still a storm guy though.

I've used an Apex for about a year finding it a predictable ball if kept highly polished, but not a good carry ball.Lots of ten pins!I'm going to try an Eraser, will post a report on it soon.
