The Mission 1.0 core design offers dynamic properties that all bowlers look for, Medium RG levels, Medium high differential with a strong intermediate (Mass Bias) potential. With our new cover, XL1200, we have worked very hard with our R & D Department in order to bring to market a cover that not only performs at a high level, but is able to maintain performance longer in the environments that we experience today. To assist us with achieving these performance criteria, we are using an all new finishing process, 500, 1000, 2000 Abralon Sanded. This procedure yields better performance, for a longer period of time.

I have drilled two Missions.  Ball one has a 4 inch pin, above the fingers, w/ a 65 degree mass bias.  Ball two has a 4 3/4 pin, also above the fingers, w/ a 70 degree bomb.  Both balls have the out of the box surfac.

While they have similar layouts, both have very different ball reactions.  The Mission is an extremely strong ball w/ a consistent reaction, shot after shot.  Ball one rolls up sooner than ball two.  Ball two is quite a bit longer than ball one and has a very big breakpoint reaction.  Ball one has a great midlane roll w/ a strong motion towards the pocket.  Both balls are very continuous and their power is also very impressive.  I will be drilling a third Mission w/ the pin below the fingers in the future.

Living in Minnesota, Storm/Roto Grip have a firm grip on the market.  However, I have been noticing several Missions wherever I go.  More and more people are buying this ball.  I suggest everyone have a Mission in their arsenal.

My Mission is drilled like the #1 layout on the drill sheet.  Surface was a bit strong but shot 300 first game out of the box.  I knew it would be good because it kept the pins so low.  It was not skidding into the pins, it was rolling strong.  I brought the surface up to 4000 and tried again.  Another 300-815.  Still covers lots of boards with this surface and hits hard - exceptional carry for me.  I think this ball will play well on an inside line or deep inside line.  Love it.

What a great ball. Just bought my first one last night and threw it in leauge. I am a left hander with not a lot of revs so i need the back end and boy does this ball have it. i am a high 190s bowler first set out of box shot 630. I think as i get use to the break of the ball and were i need to put it i am going to shot higher and higher scores. Sky is the limit. I would recommend this ball to any one looking for the next great ball dont think twice.

PAP: 5 3/8"
Rev Rate: 250-275 rpm
Ball Speed: 16-16.5 mph
Ball Layout Pic: http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq98/marc_kingpin/kdk_0172.jpg

OOB Finish: The box finish on the Mission is probably one of the strongest I've ever used on a pearl ball. The ball reaction reminds me alot of the Complete NV and the Track Mean Machine. This one has a very strong midlane read and the duller finish lets the Mission handle more volume of oil well. But with me being a medium speed thrower I found at times the finish to be way too strong for me. One thing I can't complain is how consistent this ball is when finding its way to the pocket. The carry is excellent no matter if I play down and in or swing it out though with the OOB it leaves alot of 9 and 10 pins when the lanes starts to get alittle dry. The backend is strong but I wanted to add some polish to save some energy on the Mission and give it more pop at the end.

2000 abralon w/polish: For this surface adjustment, I get alot more length as well as plenty of backend that's nearly more skid/flip than the strong arc from the box finish. Playing it up the 10-12 board was done with ease though it does help to watch the speed thrown on this one. Can get a little erratic or over/under but that's typical for using a pearl ball on a fresh shot. But in a three-game series the Mission is just a devestating ball to use in the 2nd and 3rd game. Play it more inside around the 18 board to about the 6 at breakpoint and you will find a ball that will no doubt turn left off the dry. The polish helps get the ball further down and with that strong backend it keeps the ball continuous without burning up and rewards with better carry percentage. It's also a very forgiving ball with lots of room for error if you miss your mark.

Rate this ball: 9.5 out of 10
Both my polished Mission and Evolve is nearly similar by length but the Mission has a stronger backend and abit more angular. This is a very outstanding ball that can used for league and tougher tournament conditions. The Mission really does stand up to the hype that Ebonite gave it.

What a ball. I have been a C300 fan for a long time and have occasionally have bowled with an ebonite ball, and have normally been pretty happy with them. However, Since the NVS and the Magic which was the last ball I bought from Ebonite, and was the worst ball I have ever bought, I have stayed completely away from them. However, my two bench mark balls that I had started to die out, and since I am a stroker and I like to swing the ball out, my bench mark balls are always up in the upper performance lines. So I took a real gamble when I bought the mission since the last few balls that have made have been a real problem, but boy did it pay off. This Mission is a ball that when it starts to hook it doesn't stop. The only problem I have with this ball is in the 10 games that I have bowled I have left 5 8 pins and I am lefty just in case you are wondering. I love this ball it is one of the best balls I have ever owned. Plus the color is beautiful. I just hope that this is the start of Ebonite making a comeback in the business. Because now that Ebonite make C300 balls I was starting to get worried that if Ebonite balls kept going down that it would eventually effect C300. I don't know that much about the specs of the ball but I know it had a 3-4 inch pin and the pin was placed above the ring finger. Congrats to Ebonite they really made a winner with this ball. And I know it is said all the time but Mission Accomplished.

The Mission from Ebonite has been a pleasure to get to take for a test drive.
Layout:

70 degrees by 2 ¾” by 45 degrees. Placed an X-hole down and in off my VAL to make sure I didn’t flare over it. This ball had a pretty insane amount of flare.

The first thing I noticed about the Mission drilled this way is that it has a very strong mid-lane, really wants to get into a roll but still manages to save a lot for the back. Most other balls for me that see the mid-lane this way sacrifice more on the back.

On a 40 ft. typical house shot (THS), the Mission with Out Of Box (OOB) surface just wanted to pick up a little earlier then what I liked to see. That just forced me to get in pretty deep to ensure it got through the front part of the lane. However that is what I expected out of this High-performance piece, I didn’t really want it specifically for a THS, but more for higher volume shots and some sport shots.

With that being said, I think if you have a lower rev rate or have a very high ball speed you would enjoy the ball with the OOB surface.

In an attempt to get a better and more controllable look on the THS, I added Factory Finish polish to the OOB surface and this is where the ball started to shine-pun intended. Adding the polish enabled me to close down my angles and get it through the front part of the lane a lot easier. This also added more backend motion and power at the pins. I was really impressed with the minor tweak to the cover what it enabled me to do.

With the Mission polished it works wonderfully on a fresh THS for me, and would probably be very useful on some heavier volume house shots.

Overall I really liked what I saw with the Mission. I was pretty impressed with how aggressive it was OOB, yet still retained a strong backend motion. Adding the polish was the magic ingredient for the THS for my game. I really think this ball will be very versatile for me and be able to handle a lot of different oil patterns. I can’t wait to get onto some longer or higher volume patterns, take the shine back off and see the Mission open up the lane for me.

Be careful and know what you want from this ball and know what it's going to do! It was way to much ball for me and I see people at different centers killing em with this ball! I drilled my a modified rico and it hooked way too much! Dual angle drilling 45deg x 4 x 80deg, pin just above center of my grip and weight hole in the just above p4. It read the midlane really strong and with my ball speed, I had a tough time keeping it on the right side! I had to stand to far left with my feet and that's not in my strength! Great ball in the right hands, but I didn't realize how strong this ball really was before I did the layout!!! Ed Gallagher bowling at the Pinnacle in Clarksville, TN makes the game look easy using the Mission, plus several others!! Great ball, just think before you have it drilled!!!

I drilled my Mission 4.25 x 3 with the pin just under and outside of my ring finger and the mass about one inch outside my thumb,I left the ball in the out of box finish for starters. Before I even rolled this ball I thought it would be way to much ball for me as I have a Track 505A that I am in love with and is far weaker.

I thought this ball would roll of my hand and that is just not the case with this one, the shape it has is clean in the front and picks up late mid-lane and does not stop. If you think this ball will skid/snap look into something else,I practiced a few games with it and did not like it. This ball wants to roll very heavy with continuation at the pins. BALL HITS VERY HARD

As I said in my review of my 505A,the Mission is one of four new balls for me and I bowled league last week with it and used it all three games to see what she could do. I started out with 209, then went 235,211 for 655,not bad for the first time out. For those of you whom are thinking of getting this ball, remember to use the ball for what it was intended for and I think you will be happy with it.

I have this ball in oob finish, with the pin under the bridge, the cg is kicked out to the right (rh bowler, tweener to power) with the access hole in the thumb area. The ball is drilled to give me a mid lane read, and it does that well, just on a typical house shot the ball rolls out about 3 ft before the pocket. (Adding some polish will correct that if I want to) I have used the ball on a practice National Shot, Cheetah pattern twice. On the practice national shot the ball was very controlable and carried pretty well, shot 651. On the cheetah, shot series of 679 and 694. The ball on a sport shot gives me a good consistent roll and continuation. I would recommend this ball, but it does need oil.

Mission

Bowler Information
Jimmie Gibson
Hand – Right
Style – Tweener
PAP - 5 5/8 right and 3/8 down

Layout
Pin above ring finger with mass bias places about 2” to the right of the thumb.

Expectations / Reaction
Move over storm because ebonite just took ball of the year with this gem. After seeing the NV line and the Evolve I expected another average high performance ball from ebonite, all of those balls were good but there wasn’t anything special about them. Ebonite broke through with this release offering an unprecedented amount of control with a strong arching backend in a high performance package. The recovery that this ball gave me was unbelievable. Every company has one ball that has a spot in everyone’s bag and this is one of those balls. From flooded lanes playing up the boards to second shift leagues playing fifth arrow the mission offers a strong predictable motion down lane with a tremendous amount of recovery and hitting power.

Just drilled up my Mission today. I used the number 1 drilling on the instruction sheet. I threw 4 games , with my low being 210. I was very impressed with how predictable the ball motion was, not at all jumpy. Oh yeah, I should note that I was bowling on  a fresh PBA Shark pattern, playing across 20 to about 10 or 12. I will post an update to this review in a few weeks when I have more time in with this ball.

I just drilled up my mission 3 weeks ago. First set out the box was 770. Pins just stayed low and swept right back. This ball was drilled dual drilling 70x 4 3/4 x35. It has tremendous hitting power and avery nice even motion going down the lanes. Its a easy to read ball thats good for med- to heavy oil. Last not in league shot 274,287,258= 819 This is a ball that should be a benchmark ball to own. I"ve thrown storm and lanemasters, but ebonite might be back on track with this gem.Go out and get it,its worth it.

Here's a quick review:

The ball was drilled pin above ring finger, mass bias on the strong side, with a weight hole in the PAP.   Won't spend much time on drilling. I suggest to work with your local pro to find what best works for you.

First Impressions
It's a performance ball, but more versatile than most balls at the high end.  Most of those balls are heavy oil balls, which aren't typically very versatile.
I was surprised I was able to use it on a fresh medium-light THS.  It has a strong backend, even on these conditions when most heavy oil balls burn up.

The specs on the core are 2.48 and .050 with a .013 mass bias.  The core likes to rev up early but there is a good combination with the coverstock which allows the ball to be relatively clean through the fronts.  It reads the later midlane well and has a strong backend reaction.

The OOB cover is 2000 abralon.  It works reasonably well on a fresh medium-light THS and much better on what it was intended, a heavier THS.
On the heavier shot, you can tell that the energy transfer is further down lane which allows it to be explosive at the pins.

I found the backend reaction to be much more consistent on the heavier condition which makes sense.

It will fill the most aggressive slot in your back, especially if your used to balls with strong backend.  There are more aggressive covers like the RotoGrip Cell, but these balls will be less angular than the Mission.

Carry was good on both conditions so nothing to complain about here.

Overall I gave the ball an 8.5/10.  It is very versatile for a high end ball.  It has a strong reaction overall and very strong backend.  It's pretty clean through the fronts, more so than most heavy oil balls.  It is actually quite readable and not a jumpy ball.  It's aggressive but transitions through it's phases well.
Entry angles are pretty steep with this ball.  On a heavier condition, it could be a benchmark ball for a lot of people.

Mission #2!
I drilled another Mission and I learned from the first one. I used the dual angle layout of 45deg X 3 X 25deg cause I wanted the mb to be close to my val with a higher pin and shorter pin buffer. The ball is cleaner through the heads than my pin down Mission, but this one has a sharper angle at the break point. I used it today in the last 4 games of qualifying at a SASBA tournament and went +115 for the four games to make the finals. I'm really liking what I saw from my new Mission today and look forward to using more! Just my $.02, Bruce
