The Ebonite Mission has a new core, Mission 1.0. The Mission 1.0 core design offers dynamic properties that all bowlers look for, Medium RG levels, Medium high differential with a strong intermediate (Mass Bias) potential. With our new cover, XL1200, we have worked very hard with our R & D Department in order to bring to market a cover that not only performs at a high level, but is able to maintain performance longer in the environments that we experience today. To assist us with achieving these performance criteria, we are using an all new finishing process, 500, 1000, 2000 Abralon Sanded. This procedure yields better performance, for a longer period of time.

Ebonite has finally got a ball that can turn the corner on the backend. Idrilled the ball up with pin below the ring finger and the mass bias at 45 degrees. out of the box I shot 228, 300, 209. The ball recovers very well on the backend. The ball is smooth and recovers very well in oil.

This ball is definitely the one that has been missing from Ebonite's arsenal. Drilled pin under ring with MB out about 35 degrees to give me good midlane roll with a strong back end, extra hole on VAL. This is due to my higher ball speed of 18 mph off my hand. Boy I was not disappointed. Typical house shot out the box 725, then started league the same night with a fresh topup for the first 25 feet. 279 first game then had to put it away after 3 frames of the second game. I have never seen such a reaction from a ball like this in such a very long time. My final comment is , that if you need a ball to hook and not quit this is the ball, but make sure you put your turn signal on to warn others that you are about turn sharply.

This ball is definatley a step in the right direction for Ebonite. It's something they've been missing in their line for a while. This ball is very very clean through the fronts and has a really nice continuous motion on the backend. Not to mention it hits harder then anything I've seen in a long time.

Drilled one for Ebonite Amateur Staff Member Sean Ferrell last week.  Sean is a high rev player, I drilled his Mission 5x55.  It's really smooth and has a really nice continuous motion on the backend.

This is definatley a head turner in my neck of the woods. Nice work Ebonite!

WOW!
I am very surprised how this combination that Ebonite has created. This ball has the length, recovery and carry all rolled into one. I only really throw Hammer and when my Rep gave me a Mission to try, I was very suspect as Ebonite really hasn't held their own as of late. This ball is very clean through the front end and awesome recovery and carry. This ball will get Ebonite back on the right path again. If I was to compare it against my Hammer equipment it would be the length of the Black Vibe, recovery of the Nasty and carry of the JigSaw Corner.

Well Done Ebonite.... Well done!!!

The Big E is back!!!!!!!!!I drilled my Mission 3x75x25 with a weight hole in the p3 position.I want to start by saying the is the strongest ball from ebonite on the backend that i have seen in along time. This ball has awesome recovery downlane with no quit. Its very clean through the fronts with a very strong recovery off the spot.It doesn't blow by the spot.Even with the mission sanded to 2000 abralon its very clean through the fronts and hits the pins like a beast. If you haven't thrown a ebonite ball in awhile you wont want to miss out on this one.Great job Ebonite on giving us one awesome bowling ball.

Hello everyone,

I have drilled 2 Missions so far.

Mission 1:

Layout: Pin 4.5" from PAP, 1" from VAL, MB at 60 degrees. Extra hole on PAP with 29/32 bit 3" deep.

Surface: 4000 grit Abralon

Purpose: I really like my Magic Action a lot. Please read my review on that ball for more info. I was seeking to just make the Mission a little stronger, but keep the ball motion very similar. I achieved that with this layout and surface prep. My Mission is about 4-5 boards stronger than the Magic Action w/ even more backend continuation than the M.A. This is my go to piece when I have to get inside on the lane and create a lot of angle. The ball always recovers.

Mission 2:

Layout: 70 X 5 X 70. Extra hole from center of grip through cg extended to my VAL. Drill bit was 19/32, 3" deep.

Surface: 2000 grit Abralon (box finish)

Purpose: This is one of my favorite layouts and I use it to read the lanes. It is smooth, and predictable. This Mission checks up about 3-4 feet sooner than Mission 1, but offers just as much in the backend. I wanted to use this one for earlier in the tournaments esp. on the fresh.

*Some may be asking, Why is that ball/drilling good then if the backend motion is so strong? The answer is predictable power. The ball reads the lanes the same exact way shot after shot. It is very easy to read the ball's reaction and make the proper adjustments.

This is one of Ebonite's best! I couldn't be more thrilled with the quality product produced. Mr. Gallagher has really thought this one through and has a real winner for sure.

As always please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

If you don't have a Mission in your bag, then you're not bowling 2 win!

Threw my Mission last night in league. The house typically plays lake of oil in the middle and desert on outside. This ball blew through the oil hit the desert for a brief period of time took a picture, posted a review on ballreviews.com and said good bye as it had a date with some pins. It something to be said how well this ball rolls but your more surprised on how the Mission recovers and still has enough energy to demolish pins. 505 after 2 games (Whiffed 10 pin) in there. Although this isn't a technical review, its mearly a simple love story about a boy who typically uses Hammer having a love afair with an Ebonite ball. Sometimes redheads are just more fun! LoL!!!

I had mine drill by Chris Chandler of Mike Wolfe pro shop and on Jan 22,2010 in league I go 300,278,and 256 for a 834.If you have any doubt about the mission ...don't! The ball is the real deal! You can read the lanes so good with it and it will carry everything.Since I been on Ebonite staff this Year, this ball is the one that other companies want to have.

I threw the mission (left it box finish) in vegas during the military championships.  It is the strongest ball I ever owned.  Got back this week and shot 750 and 783 in league. In vegas, the shot had a ton of oil in the middle. It carried very well even in heavy oil.  I threw it back in the midwest and on one pattern, the shot is dry - I moved in and threw about 20 at the arrows out to 10 and the ball hit like a truck.  I threw 28 strikes with 7 tens that night. The other house is heavy oil in the middle and gets to be over/under after 1 game.  I shot 783 that night.  The ball hits extremely hard and keeps driving on the back end.  Best Ebonite ball I have ever owned and I have thrown only ebonite for last 3 years. I have a very low track and I had it drilled with the pin above the middle finger with CG in the palm and axis just right of the thumb hole. Great ball.

I drilled the first Mission with a 55 x 4 3/4 x 50 layout (pin over ring) and the second with a 55 x 4 3/4 x 70 layout (pin under ring finger).  The first ball I left with the box finish and the second ball I touched very lightly with a 1000 pad.

The first ball almost rolls like a pin down ball, due to the strength of the mid-lane reaction in the ball.  However, at the back of the lane there is plenty of back-end and PHENOMENAL carry.

The second ball provided a distinctly different look.  It was MUCH STRONGER in the mid-lane, with softer but very continuous motion at the back.  Like most balls, when the pin up wants to over-react at the back I can pick up the pin down and get back control of the pocket.  Unlike most balls, when I make this move with the Mission I go from good reaction with one ball to having the whole lane with the other ball.

These two balls both share the common characteristics of being VERY STRONG in the mid-lane and both had incredible hit and carry at the back.  The Mission provides a new and very distinct look on the lanes.  It is very, very driller friendly and should be very versatile with different layouts.  It's also a very nice ball on sport patterns due to the response it provides in the mid-lane.

The other interesting thing about this ball is how quickly it will burn a spot on the lane.  When I have bowled about 2-3 games with one of these on a pair I can literally pull any ball out of my bag and find significant friction.  As long as you stay on top of the moves with this ball, you will strike A LOT with it!

The Mission from Ebonite. I have had the chance to roll them since mid-January and have not been disappointed in its performance. During that first week, I had the privilege to watch Kelly Kulick win the PBA Tournament of Champions in a stellar performance and clear demonstration of the Mission’s superior capabilities in her victory. The Mission has had the best jump start of any ball in recent memory.

I have drilled two Missions. Using the dual angle layout technique the first one is 40 degrees by 4 ½ inches by 50 degrees with the pin 3 ¼ inches above the midline. The pin is above the bridge and mass bias swung 2 inches right of the thumb with no balance hole. The second Mission is 55 degrees by 5 ½ inches by 65 degrees with the pin 2 ¼ inches above the midline. That puts the pin inside the middle finger hole and the mass bias 1 inch right of the thumb hole, with no balance hole. Both Missions have been used in box condition, with no surface changes.

The two lane condition environments I have bowled on are a 38 ft league condition with heavy applied oil to 24 ft on HPL lanes with ripping backend, and 40 ft US Open pattern on Brunswick Pro Anvillane.  The lanes are done immediately prior to bowling with no settling time for the patterns prior to bowling.

The condition on the HPL surface is dominated by friction and I have not yet been able to use either of the two Mission’s effectively in game 1, even the milder layout is too strong. In games 2 and 3, I have been able to far to the left and pump the ball with higher speed and not worry about recovery. The reaction in game 3 has been awesome both times with the best looking strong hook to slight set motion one can have and strike.

The US Open condition requires play at the second arrow zone to start and then migrated left as the lane busted open somewhat. The Mission with the 5 ½ layout carried a bit too far down the lane before recovering compared to the 4 ½ layout, but it was still effective. The stronger 4 ½  layout allowed me to attack the US Open pattern like it was almost a league shot. It recovered within a 3 board zone to the right of the break point especially in games 2 and 3.

For those that have previously used Ebonite equipment, I would say the Mission handles oil very well and has a stronger and more predictable motion than either the Angular One or Magic Action. The Mission’s strength is it’s recoverability. In today’s ball market there are MANY very good ball releases, and occasionally one of the companies hits the home run. The balls that are home runs have WOW factor, they do something more or differently than the other good new releases.

The Mission is one of those.

Drilled up two of these bad boys. Mission 1 was drilled 5 1/2 X 5, no weight hole or change to surface. Mission 2 was drilled 3 1/2 X 5 no weight hole with delay polish. Mission 2 is my favriot of the two so far. Definately goes a little longer then my 4 X 3 1/2 magic action, but still has great midlane. Really goes off the dry. Mission 1 I have had some problems with. One time it will hook, other times it will go really straight. I just need to make a surface change to for a cleanier reaction.

Drilled up the Mission 33* 4 3/8 33* with the hole in the p4 position. Went out last night on a pattern that plays very wet/dry for me and shot 750. It was smooth through the midlane with nice pop on the back. It played about 4 boards bigger than my Magic Action and 6 more than my Mutant Cell all while seeming to give more room at the break and GREAT pop at the pins.

Looks like a gamechanger for Ebonite....talked it up to a couple guys I bowl with that HATE Ebonite and both said they already have one on order.

Gonna go practice with it today (I felt like I left 30-40 pins out there last night) and may add to this later if I see anything new.

This ball will be a great addition to your arsenal.  I drilled mine pin over the fingers spitting the bridge and ring finger with no weight hole.
The house I bowled in generally has a lot of back end and are not heavily oiled.  I practiced with this ball for 2 games on a broken down pair with good carry down. The Mission was rolling ok but burning up a bit in the front.  So I took it and put a light polish on it.

Time for the pot games

Game 1 started 12 to about 7 ball shot 229.  good for 2nd getting use to the reaction and shape.

Game 2 shot 278 I grabbed the ball  in the 8th frame. Won pot.
moved left 5 and 2

Game 3 shot 279 ringing 10. Won pot

Game 4 shot 279 Stone 8 in the 9th. Won pot

Game 5 shot 257. Won Pot.

I literally broke up the pot games. Guys where starting to quit. All 3 of my side action bailed on me.

Great ball ebonite.

I will punch another and keep it out of box for heavier oil Just in case I see any.

Ebonite advertises this ball as "the most tested brand ever released." Personally, I can vouch for that claim judging from the ball's amazing versatility. While it is understood that a bowler can throw a ball virtually anywhere on a house shot and still score well, the Mission does something different. It's continued drive through the pocket after reaching its breakpoint is unparralled. The Mission does not over or under read the lane regardless of throwing style. I have thrown it using targets a cranker, stroker, and tweener would use. Each reaction was not only consistent, but dominating once hitting the pins.

I have used the ball in league three times since release and have yet to score under 750. Tossing a 300 with it last night. I highly recomment the Mission for anyone's arsenal as it will make a tremendous fit, no matter your revolution style.

WOW i have drilled up 2 of these balls so far. The 1st I used the recommended layout and polished with powerhouse for medium to dry lanes. The result was amazing, super clean threw the heads with an amazing backend read and angle to the pocket. I am so impressed with the continued drive this ball gives and the explosive hitting power of this ball. By far my favorite and go to ball in my bag today.

The 2nd i stacked with the pin 3 1/2 inches from my PAP and left the cover factory finished for heavy oil patterns. Once again the result was pure awesome. What oil i have ran into this ball seems to have no problem. It reads the midlane amazing and gives an amazing continued backend reaction.

Way to go EBONITE TEAM keep up the great work and i so look forward to the next amazing release.

The Mission is an Awesome ball!! I was very impressed with its continuous roll. The ball has a great mid lane roll and continuation towards the pins. The new XL1200 coverstock has more texture which creates more motion and this ball has lots of motion towards the pins!!! The pins stay low and scattered as the ball enters the pocket thus creating great pin reaction.

Mine is drilled with the pin above the middle finger and the CG kicked right. The MB is drilled about an inch away from the thumb hole . No weight hole needed. I kept the OOB finish.

I have used the ball on synthetic and wood lanes and have had a great reaction. The ball gives me more versatility as the lane conditions change.

I highly recommend this ball to all bowlers.

Ebonite......MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

The Ebonite Mission is truth in advertising.  This ball is unbelievable.  I drilled my first one very similar to drilling #2 on the recommended drilling sheet.  Pin placement is 4 ¼ inches from PAP and I needed an extra hole.  The great mid lane roll with strong continuation to the pins is very impressive.  I left the surface as it was out of the box and have not seen the quick lane shine like with high performance balls of the past.  The Mission provides great ball reaction on both synthetic and wood lanes.  As lane conditions change, the Mission has proven to be up to the task providing me with good versatility.

I would recommend the Mission to any bowler no matter their revolutions/style.  The Mission has already proven its self to be very effective with all styles of players and on a variety of lane conditions.  Just look at the last 3 or 4 PBA shows.  You have seen the Mission in the hands of Kelly Kulick, Mike Fagan, Mike Scroggins, and Mika Koivuniemi.  Within the last month, the Mission has won two Lumber Liquidators Tour events including the historic PBA Tournament of Champions.

It is a very exciting time to be a Regional Staff member and know that I have a superior ball over my competition in my arsenal.

If your Mission is to dominate your competition in league and tournament play, then you must have a Mission in your bag!

Mission #15
Surface:OOB
Drillingin 5-1/2", MB 60 degrees
Lane condition:THS

The Mission has the same layout as my Magic Action just a different surface. Both are OOB. The Mission starts hooking just a touch sooner and finishes about 2 boards stronger than the Magic Action. The backend continuation and carry are great.

Just drilled this Mission up last Friday and threw a couple games in practice on a fresh THS. Pin is 4" from PAP above ring finger, cg inline below and mb kicked out right of thumb in the strong position. Because of the fresh shot I was able to play game #1 with a down and in shot from 15 to 5. Game # 2 came much later after my friend and I had collectively thrown about 20 games and I had to move left to 25 swinging the Mission out to around the 7 board. The reaction I got in both games was exactly as I have seen from others using this ball locally and on TV (i.e. Kelly Kulick). It clears the heads effortlessly and seems to almost ignore the midlane the "magic" occurs around 45 feet where the ball begins it's very smooth arc into the pocket, then at about 50 feet it begins to rev and just before entry it turns on the aterburners going intio a full end over end roll. This results in a very controllable but powerful ball. It's not flippy and overall looks unremarkable going down the lane. It's that last 10 feet that sets it apart from the others. Carry was excellent, pins were kept low and taps were minimal.

My two practice games were 245 and 268. Yes, it's a soft shot, high scoring house but the Mission's carry and powerful but controllable characteristics is what caught my eye. I think think this ball is going to be a God send for strokers that need a powerfull reaction without sacrificing control. Tweeners, like myself, will love it for it's versatility and crankers might not have to use that 6th arrow quite as much. This is a great offering from Ebonite that lives up to all the hype.

Ball:
Mission
OOB finish
Pin next to and even with ring 3.5" from PAP
CG kicked right 1" from PAP
MB about 1.25" right of thumb in a strong position
No x-hole

I got this puppy drilled about a week or so before my Total Bedlam (which I also reviewed).  I was skeptical at punching either of these up because of my repeated dislike of anything made by Ebonite.  I just didn't matchup well with them and had tried a bunch.  Anywho, I gave the Mission a try because I liked what I saw on the PBA telecasts and what I read on the internet.

Boy am I glad I bought the Mission!  This ball is money.  Is clears the heads with ease, revs hard in the mids, and just charges through the pins.  The ball does need oil though so don't try using it on medium to drier lanes unless you have very firm ball speed.  Pin action is fantastic as previously stated here by other reviewers of this ball.  The core is asymmetric in design, but symmetric in nature which I really like.  Less over/under but still retains the recovery and aggressiveness.  I really don't know what else to say about this ball other than it's the real deal.  Happy bowling.

Lefty tweener 15 mph . Just came in 2nd place in tournament. 729 - high 257 1st series I play up 12 , breakpoint 8 . This ball is so clean through the heads and drilled with the a strong arc on the backend. This ball is Much better than the Evolve and is stronger than my favored playmaker. I highly reccommend this ball for all types.

I just bought an Ebonite Mission about 2 weeks ago and I must say...I am very impressed with the ball. I haven't really heard of Ebonite, producing anything really good in the past few years, so I really didn't have high hopes for this ball. However...I was proven wrong.

This ball has really impressed me. From what I've seen It seems to react better on dry lanes, or lanes with light to medium oil. If the lanes are burnt out Expect this ball react too much and come in too hard. If there's too much oil on the lanes Don't expect much reaction from the ball.

On ideal lane conditions, this ball will go long and come back strong.

All in all, I am very happy with this ball and recommend this ball to anyone.

This ball is the first out of the bag for me.  Corners like nothing else I have seen. Needs some resemblance oil with out of box surface.  Shot 300 / 804, carries very well, put it away when they are drier (in my opinion).

I have been a fan of the Ebonite Magic series and this is a great follow up.

Drilling:
Pin to PAP distance: 4.5”, MB to PAP distance: 5”, pin above middle finger and 3” above midline. Low hole 3" over 3" down from CG with 1" bit and 3" deep.

This balls is absolutely amazing.  Hits very hard with a absolutely great pin carry. This can be attributed to it's strong continuation through the pins. The biggest selling point with this ball is the versatility you can have with this ball from the drilling alone, not to mention the coverstock tweaks make this some ball. You can really tell that the guys at Ebonite put a lot of time and work into this piece.  It is really nice to have such a great buzz about the Ebonite Family once again .

Mission #1
Layout 50x5x30 with no hole and box finish.  Clean through the front part of the lane strong in the mid-lane, continuous, and has great recovery.

Mission #2
Layout 35x5x30 with a hole on my axis and box finish.  Still clean through the front part of the lane, picks up the lane earlier than Mission #1, continuous, and still allows me to go around it when needed.

The Mission gives me a completely different look than any of our other high end products.  It is strong with predictable ball motion.  This ball is very versatile and looks great for power players to straighter players and everyone in between.  The other thing I have taken notice to, not only with mine but all the Missions I have seen, is how it goes through the pins.  The MISSION is really unbelievable!

this ball is the first ebonite ball i have drilled for myself since the complete NV. this ball is really a interesting piece for me i can really manipulate the reaction i get and the breakpoint. drilled this up 3 weeks ago and in my scratch league after a 209 game ran back to back 300's 809 series first night out. lets say i was impressed wish had moved a game earlier but since then shot another 300 last week. ball clears and reads like no other ebonite i have ever seen and the pin action is what impressed me to drill this ball up.

pbax: scorpion
all i can say is this ball for me kills it on this pattern opens up makes it feel like a over hyped house shot had a 4 game set of 1027 my personal best on this pattern

final review:
after roughly 35 games with this ball it is the first one i grab on house shot the ball is really awsome and is amazing how easy it is to find a line with. from a pro shop stand point the ball is probably the biggest sailing ball we've had since the cell. also good looking ball has shelf appeal. would recommend to anyone.

The mission is a great ball for medium heavy to heavy oil, and not a regular house shot oil pattern for crankers!!!  The ball comes back no matter how deep you throw the ball and it will not die when it hits the break point back to the pocket.  The ball clearly has raw and incredible hitting power.  It is definitely a ball to have part of your arsenal.

I have drilled two Missions.  Ball one has a 4 inch pin, above the fingers, w/ a 65 degree mass bias.  Ball two has a 4 3/4 pin, also above the fingers, w/ a 70 degree bomb.  Both balls have the out of the box surfac.

While they have similar layouts, both have very different ball reactions.  The Mission is an extremely strong ball w/ a consistent reaction, shot after shot.  Ball one rolls up sooner than ball two.  Ball two is quite a bit longer than ball one and has a very big breakpoint reaction.  Ball one has a great midlane roll w/ a strong motion towards the pocket.  Both balls are very continuous and their power is also very impressive.  I will be drilling a third Mission w/ the pin below the fingers in the future.

Living in Minnesota, Storm/Roto Grip have a firm grip on the market.  However, I have been noticing several Missions wherever I go.  More and more people are buying this ball.  I suggest everyone have a Mission in their arsenal.

My Mission is drilled like the #1 layout on the drill sheet.  Surface was a bit strong but shot 300 first game out of the box.  I knew it would be good because it kept the pins so low.  It was not skidding into the pins, it was rolling strong.  I brought the surface up to 4000 and tried again.  Another 300-815.  Still covers lots of boards with this surface and hits hard - exceptional carry for me.  I think this ball will play well on an inside line or deep inside line.  Love it.

What a great ball. Just bought my first one last night and threw it in leauge. I am a left hander with not a lot of revs so i need the back end and boy does this ball have it. i am a high 190s bowler first set out of box shot 630. I think as i get use to the break of the ball and were i need to put it i am going to shot higher and higher scores. Sky is the limit. I would recommend this ball to any one looking for the next great ball dont think twice.

great ball from ebonite. very controlable, reads the mid-lanes well and has a great backend. not a huge ebonite fan but a real winner of a ball here. glad to have got one.

PAP: 5 3/8"
Rev Rate: 250-275 rpm
Ball Speed: 16-16.5 mph
Ball Layout Pic: http://i437.photobucket.com/albums/qq98/marc_kingpin/kdk_0172.jpg

OOB Finish: The box finish on the Mission is probably one of the strongest I've ever used on a pearl ball. The ball reaction reminds me alot of the Complete NV and the Track Mean Machine. This one has a very strong midlane read and the duller finish lets the Mission handle more volume of oil well. But with me being a medium speed thrower I found at times the finish to be way too strong for me. One thing I can't complain is how consistent this ball is when finding its way to the pocket. The carry is excellent no matter if I play down and in or swing it out though with the OOB it leaves alot of 9 and 10 pins when the lanes starts to get alittle dry. The backend is strong but I wanted to add some polish to save some energy on the Mission and give it more pop at the end.

2000 abralon w/polish: For this surface adjustment, I get alot more length as well as plenty of backend that's nearly more skid/flip than the strong arc from the box finish. Playing it up the 10-12 board was done with ease though it does help to watch the speed thrown on this one. Can get a little erratic or over/under but that's typical for using a pearl ball on a fresh shot. But in a three-game series the Mission is just a devestating ball to use in the 2nd and 3rd game. Play it more inside around the 18 board to about the 6 at breakpoint and you will find a ball that will no doubt turn left off the dry. The polish helps get the ball further down and with that strong backend it keeps the ball continuous without burning up and rewards with better carry percentage. It's also a very forgiving ball with lots of room for error if you miss your mark.

Rate this ball: 9.5 out of 10
Both my polished Mission and Evolve is nearly similar by length but the Mission has a stronger backend and abit more angular. This is a very outstanding ball that can used for league and tougher tournament conditions. The Mission really does stand up to the hype that Ebonite gave it.

What a ball. I have been a C300 fan for a long time and have occasionally have bowled with an ebonite ball, and have normally been pretty happy with them. However, Since the NVS and the Magic which was the last ball I bought from Ebonite, and was the worst ball I have ever bought, I have stayed completely away from them. However, my two bench mark balls that I had started to die out, and since I am a stroker and I like to swing the ball out, my bench mark balls are always up in the upper performance lines. So I took a real gamble when I bought the mission since the last few balls that have made have been a real problem, but boy did it pay off. This Mission is a ball that when it starts to hook it doesn't stop. The only problem I have with this ball is in the 10 games that I have bowled I have left 5 8 pins and I am lefty just in case you are wondering. I love this ball it is one of the best balls I have ever owned. Plus the color is beautiful. I just hope that this is the start of Ebonite making a comeback in the business. Because now that Ebonite make C300 balls I was starting to get worried that if Ebonite balls kept going down that it would eventually effect C300. I don't know that much about the specs of the ball but I know it had a 3-4 inch pin and the pin was placed above the ring finger. Congrats to Ebonite they really made a winner with this ball. And I know it is said all the time but Mission Accomplished.

The Mission from Ebonite has been a pleasure to get to take for a test drive.
Layout:

70 degrees by 2 ¾” by 45 degrees. Placed an X-hole down and in off my VAL to make sure I didn’t flare over it. This ball had a pretty insane amount of flare.

The first thing I noticed about the Mission drilled this way is that it has a very strong mid-lane, really wants to get into a roll but still manages to save a lot for the back. Most other balls for me that see the mid-lane this way sacrifice more on the back.

On a 40 ft. typical house shot (THS), the Mission with Out Of Box (OOB) surface just wanted to pick up a little earlier then what I liked to see. That just forced me to get in pretty deep to ensure it got through the front part of the lane. However that is what I expected out of this High-performance piece, I didn’t really want it specifically for a THS, but more for higher volume shots and some sport shots.

With that being said, I think if you have a lower rev rate or have a very high ball speed you would enjoy the ball with the OOB surface.

In an attempt to get a better and more controllable look on the THS, I added Factory Finish polish to the OOB surface and this is where the ball started to shine-pun intended. Adding the polish enabled me to close down my angles and get it through the front part of the lane a lot easier. This also added more backend motion and power at the pins. I was really impressed with the minor tweak to the cover what it enabled me to do.

With the Mission polished it works wonderfully on a fresh THS for me, and would probably be very useful on some heavier volume house shots.

Overall I really liked what I saw with the Mission. I was pretty impressed with how aggressive it was OOB, yet still retained a strong backend motion. Adding the polish was the magic ingredient for the THS for my game. I really think this ball will be very versatile for me and be able to handle a lot of different oil patterns. I can’t wait to get onto some longer or higher volume patterns, take the shine back off and see the Mission open up the lane for me.

Be careful and know what you want from this ball and know what it's going to do! It was way to much ball for me and I see people at different centers killing em with this ball! I drilled my a modified rico and it hooked way too much! Dual angle drilling 45deg x 4 x 80deg, pin just above center of my grip and weight hole in the just above p4. It read the midlane really strong and with my ball speed, I had a tough time keeping it on the right side! I had to stand to far left with my feet and that's not in my strength! Great ball in the right hands, but I didn't realize how strong this ball really was before I did the layout!!! Ed Gallagher bowling at the Pinnacle in Clarksville, TN makes the game look easy using the Mission, plus several others!! Great ball, just think before you have it drilled!!!

I drilled my Mission 4.25 x 3 with the pin just under and outside of my ring finger and the mass about one inch outside my thumb,I left the ball in the out of box finish for starters. Before I even rolled this ball I thought it would be way to much ball for me as I have a Track 505A that I am in love with and is far weaker.

I thought this ball would roll of my hand and that is just not the case with this one, the shape it has is clean in the front and picks up late mid-lane and does not stop. If you think this ball will skid/snap look into something else,I practiced a few games with it and did not like it. This ball wants to roll very heavy with continuation at the pins. BALL HITS VERY HARD

As I said in my review of my 505A,the Mission is one of four new balls for me and I bowled league last week with it and used it all three games to see what she could do. I started out with 209, then went 235,211 for 655,not bad for the first time out. For those of you whom are thinking of getting this ball, remember to use the ball for what it was intended for and I think you will be happy with it.

I have this ball in oob finish, with the pin under the bridge, the cg is kicked out to the right (rh bowler, tweener to power) with the access hole in the thumb area. The ball is drilled to give me a mid lane read, and it does that well, just on a typical house shot the ball rolls out about 3 ft before the pocket. (Adding some polish will correct that if I want to) I have used the ball on a practice National Shot, Cheetah pattern twice. On the practice national shot the ball was very controlable and carried pretty well, shot 651. On the cheetah, shot series of 679 and 694. The ball on a sport shot gives me a good consistent roll and continuation. I would recommend this ball, but it does need oil.

Mission

Bowler Information
Jimmie Gibson
Hand – Right
Style – Tweener
PAP - 5 5/8 right and 3/8 down

Layout
Pin above ring finger with mass bias places about 2” to the right of the thumb.

Expectations / Reaction
Move over storm because ebonite just took ball of the year with this gem. After seeing the NV line and the Evolve I expected another average high performance ball from ebonite, all of those balls were good but there wasn’t anything special about them. Ebonite broke through with this release offering an unprecedented amount of control with a strong arching backend in a high performance package. The recovery that this ball gave me was unbelievable. Every company has one ball that has a spot in everyone’s bag and this is one of those balls. From flooded lanes playing up the boards to second shift leagues playing fifth arrow the mission offers a strong predictable motion down lane with a tremendous amount of recovery and hitting power.

Just drilled up my Mission today. I used the number 1 drilling on the instruction sheet. I threw 4 games , with my low being 210. I was very impressed with how predictable the ball motion was, not at all jumpy. Oh yeah, I should note that I was bowling on  a fresh PBA Shark pattern, playing across 20 to about 10 or 12. I will post an update to this review in a few weeks when I have more time in with this ball.

I just drilled up my mission 3 weeks ago. First set out the box was 770. Pins just stayed low and swept right back. This ball was drilled dual drilling 70x 4 3/4 x35. It has tremendous hitting power and avery nice even motion going down the lanes. Its a easy to read ball thats good for med- to heavy oil. Last not in league shot 274,287,258= 819 This is a ball that should be a benchmark ball to own. I"ve thrown storm and lanemasters, but ebonite might be back on track with this gem.Go out and get it,its worth it.

Here's a quick review:

The ball was drilled pin above ring finger, mass bias on the strong side, with a weight hole in the PAP.   Won't spend much time on drilling. I suggest to work with your local pro to find what best works for you.

First Impressions
It's a performance ball, but more versatile than most balls at the high end.  Most of those balls are heavy oil balls, which aren't typically very versatile.
I was surprised I was able to use it on a fresh medium-light THS.  It has a strong backend, even on these conditions when most heavy oil balls burn up.

The specs on the core are 2.48 and .050 with a .013 mass bias.  The core likes to rev up early but there is a good combination with the coverstock which allows the ball to be relatively clean through the fronts.  It reads the later midlane well and has a strong backend reaction.

The OOB cover is 2000 abralon.  It works reasonably well on a fresh medium-light THS and much better on what it was intended, a heavier THS.
On the heavier shot, you can tell that the energy transfer is further down lane which allows it to be explosive at the pins.

I found the backend reaction to be much more consistent on the heavier condition which makes sense.

It will fill the most aggressive slot in your back, especially if your used to balls with strong backend.  There are more aggressive covers like the RotoGrip Cell, but these balls will be less angular than the Mission.

Carry was good on both conditions so nothing to complain about here.

Overall I gave the ball an 8.5/10.  It is very versatile for a high end ball.  It has a strong reaction overall and very strong backend.  It's pretty clean through the fronts, more so than most heavy oil balls.  It is actually quite readable and not a jumpy ball.  It's aggressive but transitions through it's phases well.
Entry angles are pretty steep with this ball.  On a heavier condition, it could be a benchmark ball for a lot of people.

Mission #2!
I drilled another Mission and I learned from the first one. I used the dual angle layout of 45deg X 3 X 25deg cause I wanted the mb to be close to my val with a higher pin and shorter pin buffer. The ball is cleaner through the heads than my pin down Mission, but this one has a sharper angle at the break point. I used it today in the last 4 games of qualifying at a SASBA tournament and went +115 for the four games to make the finals. I'm really liking what I saw from my new Mission today and look forward to using more! Just my $.02, Bruce

I've had a few weeks of bowling with the Mission now, and I think I can offer more information now.First, let me say that this ball really doesn't hook as much as I was expecting.(not necessarily a bad thing, covers about 4-5 more boards than my Playmaker, and a few boards less than my Rogue Cell)As I stated in my last post, I had the ball drilled with the #1 drilling on the instruction sheet for a long and strong reaction. The Mission goes longer than I was expecting, develops a good midlane roll, and has a very angular backend reaction.what impresses me about this ball is the pin carry. I carry slop that I shouldn't with this ball. It keeps the pins nice and low, and carries the corners well.Overall, I would say that the reaction is like a Playmaker on steroids, and while it isn't quite what I was expecting it to be, I am still happy with this purchase.

I cannot say enough good things about the MISSION..this ball is very versatile. I have three different MISSION's with three different layouts and they all perform. Pin up, pin down, pin out, it doesn't make a difference they will all strike and they will all strike a lot!

I first threw the MISSION pin up on the USBC white pattern, I averaged 244 over the first 15 games of the tournament(Bacardi Classic-Cleveland). I added a little clean and dull to the surface so that it would grip the lanes a hair sooner and this ball gave me the WORLD!!

An excellent purchase if you are looking for one ball that can do it all!

I haven't had good luck with any Ebonite ball yet, but I drilled this one after watching Jack Nelson win 2 senior high roller events in one week ( one where he knocked me out in the quarter finals ).

I drilled this one pin under the ring finger at 4.25 inches to PAP, no extra hole.  Ball was a winner right out of the bag.  Strong heavy roll with smooth continuous move to the pocket.  Seems like a great control ball on flatter conditions, that still hase good hitting power.

Likes: I was very excited to try the mission. i had always wanted one. especially after i watch a youth bowler who only averaged a 140 improve his average to 200 in just one season with this ball. i finally got one month. and im very disappointed. not in the ball but myself. i cant believe it took me two years to get such an outstanding ball. i havent been this impressed since the cell. but anyways. i lay the ball across the 14 board and it travels out 6-8 and if i mess up and push it out it reads the pattern so well that it comes back. and if i pull it just a little it holds. last night, my first time throwing it in league i post my second highest series of the season with 789. 245, 244, 300. a few ten pins and a weird 4,7,9,10 got me good but i think ill do very well with this ball. i feel like i will improve my average with this ball. i currently average 222. hopefully it will help me establish a 230 benchmark. great ball. more than impressed
