ball layout, pin 4 in from pap and 1 3/4 in from the val. mass bias on the val w/ 1 in by 2 in weight hole. hit the surface w/ 2000 abralon and factory finish. clean thru the heads w/ very srong mid-lane and continuation as long i don't get in the dry too early. i have bowled 9 gms w/ the no-limit so far and have the front 7 one gm, front 8 another and the front 9 and have averaged 232 over those 9 gms. (my book last yr was 207)

Pin - PAP 3 1/2"
MB at 80 degrees
Pin 1" from VAL

This is a trick drill and not what I would consider a benchmark ball, but I'll review it anyhow.  I'll post another review when I get a more normal drill pattern on one of these.

This ball has no hole and is in factory surface.  My initial thought was to drill something to use when I needed a bit of help in the midlane but wanted backend hook as well.  The idea was to make the ball flare more so it would spend some energy and dampen the downlane action.  This ball has a very strong core, and even if drilled weak will produce direction change in the middle of the lane.  Mine is probably 6 or 7 boards stronger than the SR300 and around 2 feet earlier on the lane.  This reaction gives me unbelievable looks on some of the tighter midlanes but should never be used on anything resembling wet/dry.

It's got the ability to change direction when nothing else in my bag will and has bailed me out on a couple of tighter lane conditions already.  The hit and mix is as good or better than anything I've ever thrown.  With my shoulders square, I can send it up inside the oil line and it reads almost like a particle in the midlane, but continues and hits like a pearl reactive.  If I open up and bump the friction, the ball will change direction VERY strongly and come back from just about anywhere.  The only negative that I can think of is that it likes to hook early if you hit the friction too early... but what ball doesn't these days???

I think the No Limit will be a very solid piece for higher rev players looking for full-lane hook without jerkiness, and for low rev players trying to open up a lane after the track carries down.  I'll post videos and a pictoral review on my website as soon as I get them processed.

Pin to PAP Distance: 5 1/2"
Preferred Spin Axis to PAP Distance: 3 5/8"
Balance Hole: 27/32" Hole x 1 1/2" Deep - 1" Past PAP on a Line from the Pin
Surface Preparation: Box Condition

What I Was Looking For in this Ball and Layout:

When I drilled this No Limit, I was bowling in the Ebonite sponsored True Amateur Tournament in Las Vegas. I was in need of a shiny surface ball that flared a lot. The goal was to end up with a ball that pushed easily through the front but did not flip as hard as my One and Big Time Pearl in the backend.

What I Ended Up With in this Ball and Layout:

Getting through the front of the lane is no problem for the No Limit. The shiny Big Bang coverstock pushes through the front of the lane very easily on most lane surfaces I've seen. Our local bowling center (Guardian Lane Surface with dry heads) doesn't even present too many problems for the No Limit. It pushes through the front of the lane and retains axis rotation for a mid-lane read.

Here's where the No Limit didn't exactly match up to what I was shooting for. The No Limit retains rotation so long for me that the backend move is fairly quick. While the ball does flare a lot through the mid-lane, the coverstock still retains a quick backend transition for my game. For me, even the high differential (.071") of the No Limit was not enough to get this coverstock to burn up a little earlier.  Typically balls with differentials this high tend to burn up early and go a little straighter through the backend. While that's not always optimal, it was what I wanted in this ball reaction. Perhaps in the future, I will scuff the surface of this ball just slightly to perform to my original expectations.

The overall hook of my No Limit is extremely close to my One ball reviewed earlier on this website. This is the primary reason I will be changing the surface of this ball in the future. My One ball is so predictable that I would probably choose to use it in nearly every instance over this No Limit. But if you are looking for a unique ball reaction shape that pushes through the front of the lane easily, take a look at the No Limit from Ebonite.

Length from 1-10 (Early to Late)
4.5

Breakpoint Move from 1-10 (Smooth to Sharp)
8.5

Overall Hook from 1-10 (Low to High)
8.5

I REALLY Didn't KNOW WHAT I WANTED OUT OF THIS BALL BUT I HEARD A FEW GOOD THINGS ON IT SO I DECIDED TO DRILL ONE UP, I DRILLED IT WITH THE MASS BIAS ABOVE THE THUMB HOLE AND THE CG JUST UNDER THE FINGERS WITH THE PIN ABOUT 3 INCHES ABOVE THE FINGER, IT HAD A 3-4 INCH PIN TO START AND I KNOW IT SOUNDS COMPLICATED BUT IS Isn't. WHEN I USED MY BALL I FOUND OUT THIS BALL GOT DOWN THE LANE WITH EASE AND WHEN IT HIT THE DRY IT MADE A Definite MOVE AND MADE A CONTINUOUS MOVE TO THE POCKET, I Didn't KNOW IF WITH THIS DRILLING THE BALL WOULD GO TO LONG OR BOUNCE OF THE HOOK SPOT, BUT THIS BALL IS VERY Predictable AND CAN READ IT WITH EASE, SO WITH ALL THIS IN MIND AND U R LOOKING FOR A BALL TO PERFORM IN A LEAGUE SHOT EVEN IF IT IS A SECOND SHIFT I RECOMMEND THIS BALL TO EVERYONE, THANKS.

For me this is a GREAT THS type of shot.  It is drilled with my pin over finger holes, 5.5 from PAP @ 55 degrees.  See profile for my information.

I have had this ball for about 6 months now.  Have shot some good series' with it, even won a tournament with it.  Ball is good from about 10 board to 25 on THS.  Can move in pretty deep without giving up hit.  Cover is easy to modify and have used it sanded and polished with good results.
