Drilled 30x3.5"x60. Hole on VAL 1.75" down the VAL. This ball is amazing!! Superior performance in the mid-price point!! Great value!! Proven Mission core and stronger pearl cover gives me easy length and remarkable back end motion. This ball with the out of box surface handled the heavy 43' house pattern I see regularly with ease. At this price point, the Source will be a huge hit!! This ball carries VERY well, as expected with that Mission core. If you haven't tried Ebonite in a while, this would be a product to look at. It is Amazing!!

Drilled a 4 1/4" pin, under ring finger.  The cover seems pretty clean and the Mission core gives it a continuous motion.  I think this is a step up from an Innovate because of the stronger mid-lane reaction and not as strong as a Signals.  Should fit in nice on medium to drier patterns.

drilled a 45x5x60 pin under the bridge. This ball rolls a lot like the red mission but a lot cleaner thru the front of the lane with a more angular and more continuous motion. I have used it on both house and tournament patterns plays great.

I had an opportunity to first watch the SOURCE perform at Bowl Expo in Las Vegas during Demo Days at South Point.  The entire product line was introduced with all brands of Ebonite (Track, Columbia, Hammer and Track).  The SOURCE stood out from the entire Demo line.  The reviews from the bowlers were excellent.  I watched low to high rev rate players, low to high ball speeds and a variety of axis rotations and tilts.  The SOURCE seems to create great ball motion for all of these different players.
The SOURCE has the successful MISSION core which is wrapped around the new XL 2000 Pearl coverstock.  The first characteristic that stood out to me was how clean it is through the front part of the lane and the angle at the back.  The other feature that really stands out is the versatility of the core/veneer.  I have used this on typical league patterns, flatter sport patterns and a variety of different lengths and volumes and the SOURCE provides great ball motion.  Most pearl balls create a one ball motion arsenal piece for me but the SOURCE provides multiple options in a ball arsenal.

The surface can be easily manipulated as can the layout of the core.  If you haven’t tried Ebonite in awhile, the last two introductions – CHAMPION and the SOURCE have been terrific.  I encourage you to give both these products a try.  I think you’ll be extremely pleased with the overall performance.

COMMENTS

I drilled my staff ball 50 x 5 1/4 x 30 and left it at box surface. This ball is very strong off the end of the pattern! If you need a ball to flip hard, grab this ball, but make sure you have friction down lane. This ball needs it in order to work properly at box finish. Its very good at going straight up the lane but it needs some burn in order to open the lane up. I really like this ball to start the block and finish the block off because it allows me to follow the transition in and keep going through the pins. Ebonite has two very very good balls on its hands with the last two releases and and more to come! Ebonite's coming back with a vengeance, keep an eye on us  :)

BALL REACTION

Length: good length

Back End: moderate arc, the layout was intended to weaken the backend

Overall Hook: moderate hook

Midlane Read: delayed response through the midlane, the ball could be drilled far stronger than this layout

Breakpoint Shape: strong arc to flippy response on the broken down THS, layout was a bit too weak for the WTBA pattern with the box surface

COMMENTS

Likes: Source coverstock gets considerable length prior to making the move. The layout on this ball was intended to delay the hook and be playable on broken down conditions or extreme wet/dry conditions. I would say the Source does perform well on the condition that it was drilled for. Anyone who enjoyed playing with the Innovate or Champion from the past season, or a shiny version of the Mission series will be pleased with the Source.

Dislikes: That I have only drilled one of the Sources to this point.

The Source might be the best ball for league conditions I have ever tried.  I used an unusual drilling, especially for someone with my style, but I tried this on a Challenge and was very pleased with the results, so I took a shot.  The pin is about 5 and 5/8 inches above the center line of my grip.  The CG is about 1 and ¼ inches to the right of the ring finger and the mass bias is an inch above my thumb hole at about a 2 o’clock position.  There is also a weight hole about 3 inches further past the pin.  I know this might sound crazy, but this ball strikes like crazy in league.  I shot a 300 the second week with carry that bordered on amazing.  If you are limited to one new ball for this league season, the Source just might be the one for you.  I highly recommend that you get to an EBI Demo Days at a center near you to try this ball.

Ebonite Source is a great ball!!! I drilled it pin up with the pin on my left finger and the cg is in the center of my palm and kept it box surface. The ball goes long and clean to the heads but once it hits the dry it makes a left turn and destroys the pins. I highly suggest getting this ball if you are looking for a ball that goes really long and for when the lanes breakdown and move in.

What a great new addition to the Ebonite line. This ball will really compliment the champion. The source is cleaner and smoother than the champion and is more of a revving arc. The Source rolled really well on both a house pattern and tournament pattern. What I probably liked most about this ball is its predictability and even though its a pearl it still handles the carry-down better than expected.  This would make a good benchmark ball in anyone's arsenal.

MUST HAVE!!

This ball accompanies me everywhere I go... a must have in your arsenal if you are looking for something that will get through the front part of the lane very clean but restore some energy to have a strong continuous motion down the lane.

I have two of these in my arsenal.  1) 4" pin above ring finger, cg stacked - out of the box  2) 3" pin below the bridge, cg kicked out with a weight hole near the thumb - 2000 abralon

They both compliment each other very much - one simply rolls a little sooner but has the same motion.

I have used my pin up on medium to dryer conditions and the pin down on just medium patterns.   8)

In a word...awesome!!!

I find the Source to be extremely versatile, clean through the front and then extremely continuous on the back and this is why it is ALWAYS with me and in the bag!

Mine is drilled pin up, the pin is about 1.5 inches above my bridge with the mass bias at 65 degrees - pretty standard layout. Out of the box, it was a little TOO clean for me so I adjusted the surface and found it best at 2000 abralon with factory finish polish. How I got there on the spinner:
1) 500 abralon pad, lots of water
2) 2000 abralon pad WITH a little polish ON THE PAD, with moderate water

For me the 500 gives some traction under the surface and controls the move off the spot but the 2000 and polish still allows me to maintain the clean reaction and energy retention through the front part of the lane.

In short - if you are looking for a new ball this season, this is the one!!!

Good Day fellow bowling enthusiast it is your friendly neighborhood ToolBox, back to give some insight to the community.  Today’s review is regarding the Ebonite Source; if you have notice that all the reviews that I give are based upon the same layout and varying the cover-stocks to give you an honest read on the ball from various aspects of the lane.  The Source gives good length out of the box and very angular out of the box, almost too angular for my taste.  With the lane conditions in the Houston area being on the medium to lighter side, for players that have lower rev rates and slower balls speeds this ball would be an ideal asset.
The cover is very versatile for players to change and create a different look.  When I hit this ball with 4000 Abralon, no polish this ball definitely picked up about 5-7 feet sooner before hitting the breakpoint.  When applying this grit to the surface it smoothed motion out, making more of an arcing move toward the pocket.  Once the surface is right with this piece, your striking possibilities can be endless.
Remember to Bowl It Forward and run to your local pro shop and pre order the Ebonite Legacy.  Thank you for your time once again, ToolBox Out!!!

Hello everyone,

Visually, I was excited about the Source. It's simple and very Gamebreaker-esque. It doesn't draw much attention on the rack like some other balls out there, but many people in the DFW area are talking about it after they've seen it on the lane or thrown it themselves.

My go-to pearl for a long time has been the Innovate, but that ball excels for me more when I have to move right (I am left-handed) and generate a little more arc. The Source allows me to play a little straighter.

We drilled this one 70 x 4.5 x 40 with no extra hole. Out of the box, it definitely made it down the lane and was very angular on the backend. As with other balls that come with the Factory Finish, I needed to make some adjustments and break the polish before it fit my game, since the reaction was inconsistent. I generally throw the ball pretty hard.

Initially, I hit the cover with 4000 Abralon just to break the shine a little. The length still was good, but the backend reaction was a little smoother and more predictable. I liked what I saw, but tried some other things.

My second experiment was with 3000 Abralon. This took away some of the skid in the front and tamed the backend some more, but I felt like it was taking away from the benefits of the pearl cover.

Finally, I decided on 1000 Abralon with some water, followed by some Magic Shine on top. The ball made it through the heads nicely, as it did right out of the box, but the little bit of extra traction under the polish was nice, especially with my higher ball speed. Putting some of the shine back on it was great on the downlane friction.

With a little less skid in the front, and good angle on the back, this ball fits nicely into the arsenal. If I want to stay left, but need a more length than I'd get with the Champion, the Source it the right choice.

This year, my focus has been on experimenting more with cover changes as well as trying to build a complete five-ball arsenal with balls and drillings that clearly complement each other and make the decisions much easier during competition. I definitely feel like the current Ebonite product line, along with a knowledgeable ball driller, have made this happen.

If you're looking for some length in your game and unmatched angle down the lane, the Source is the right choice.

Length:40

Volume:MED/HIGH

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):THS

Drilled my Source just like my Champion, pin under my fingers on my grip line with the mas bias out 2 1/2" from my grip line.  No surface changes have been made. I pretty much leave the box finish alone on all my equipment.  Ball is very clean and easy going through the front of the lane and very responsive of the dry boards.

This ball is just devastating to the pins. Pins stay low to the deck and really mix around on light shaker hits.  I find myself getting this ball out once the shot breaks down some.  It gives me the ability to move in send this ball to right and watch it come back around the corner.

I would recommend this amazing product to anyone who is ready to try one of our incredible new products.    So go out get your SOURCE and #BowlitForward.

Drilling: I drilled my Source pin way up with the MB under the thumb and left box finish on it.
Likes: Where to start with this ball! This is by far the most angular ball since the Angular One. If there are any dry boards this ball is making an extreme motion on the back end. This ball is best suited for medium lanes with fresh back ends. This ball is less overall hook then the Pivot and Legacy but more backend movement then both. With the Mission core and a strong pearl cover this ball is sure to please!

Dislikes: The Source does not like tight backend it also can be a little much if the backends are too dry.

The Source bowling ball gives good length through the heads and has a strong continuous backend reaction.  In addition, this ball has the famous core of the Mission; which keeps the pins low to the deck for more pin action and carry.  I always loved that feature with the Mission cores.

My Source is drilled with the pin under my ring finger, the CG is approximately 4 ½ inches from the pin and has a small weight hole for balance.   This ball gives me good length on a typical house condition with a smooth continuous back end reaction.  It also comes into play on tournament conditions where the heads have burned and I need something to get further down the lane.  But as the lanes open on the back, more friction is involved and the ball finishes even harder.   This ball is very predictable and I use it most during league play transition or tournament play transition.  The Source is certainly a must for every bowler’s arsenal!!

This isn't a ball review, rather its a rant about Ball reviews.....

I just spent 25 minutes typing out and detailing the Ebonite Source; after proof-reading my text, I added 4 photos to my post. When I clicked "submit", I was told the attachments were too large (192 KB max), and I needed to delete some photos to get back under the limit.

When I clicked "BACK".......... my review was gone, completely. No opportunity to retrieve my ball review, it was just gone.

Ballreviews-- can you do something about the formatting of this site, in cases like this? (in other words, when you have to go "back" and change something). I'm not re-writing another review, so because of this crappy error, the Source gets one less review and indication that it really is a great release from Ebonite.

Thanks for wasting my time.

Length:40ft

Volume:20-25mL

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):USBC white pattern on Brunswick Anvilane

I left the Source at box surface starting playing through 10 at the arrows standing on 18, the reaction was later down the lane and continuous I was at least four boards to far right.  I made a four board move left and kept my eyes on 10 at the arrows I was able to see really smooth and strong transitions once the Source exited the pattern.  I was able to read the ball each shot, I got one in to early and the volume of oil took it to far down the lane before it started to roll which resulted in leaving a weak ten pin.  The Source is a very good ball for those fresh medium patterns as well as when the medium heavy patterns start to transition and the something is needed to get a farther down the lane.
