Drilled this beast 4.5 x 3.5 with 13/16 hole down on vertical axis line. My PAP is 5" over 1/4" up. I tested this ball on PBA Regional Pattern #4. This ball opened up this pattern nicely for me creating a devastating entry angle from multiple positions. The ball exited the pattern and made an extremely strong and predictable move out of the pattern. This balls hit was very clean and crisp. It ate through those pins like butter.

If there is anyone out there looking for a ball that reads the midlane and doesnt squirt and makes a hard turn for the hole with what to date is the cleanest hit I have seen then Big One will be all the ball you need.

I bought this ball for heavy oil and was very disappointed.  This was the worst ball I have ever owned.  I gave it away to a beginner.  I picked up a Storm Passion and was very happy.  Before the Big One I had an Apex Obssesion(Ebonite) and that was a very good ball.  I don't know what happened but now I'm with Storm.  There are some really good balls for heavy oil don't waste your money on this piece of junk.

After getting tired of worthless reviews that review nothing, I decided to post my first review on this fine ball.

Ball is laid out with the pin 5&1/4" to pap, mb to pap is 3".  Pin is above ring finger, mb located about 3" due right of thumbhole.  I am a high tracker with a 5&3/8ths over & 3/8ths up pap.  Large balance hole drilled 1" over and 1" right of pap.  My ball speed is approx 15.5 to 16 mph with medium revs.

Surface condition is oob, 4000 grit abralon.  General lane condition is med/heavy xmas tree with a buff out to 37-38' and out of bounds outside of the 5 board.

This ball reacts differently now than when new.  When new, it skated very easily on med to heavy conditions with less midlane and much more backend.  With a couple hundred games on it now, it reacts more the way it's advertised.  Needs head oil, and will read the midlane.  On a medium oil shot, it will begin to hook at 35' and go through the nose.  On a heavier med it provides a powerful arc with excellent hit.  On anything less than medium oil, the ball will expend all it's energy before it gets 40' and will roll out.  I don't find this ball to be effected by carrydown, and it also works well on longer patterns when playing a breakpoint closer to the pocket.

While I miss the ball's brand new days where it would skate easily through the heads and mids and still turn the corner hard from the 5 board with a huge sweeping hook, I also find it much more controllable, predictable, and powerful on med/heavy to heavy oil shots playing a slightly smaller swing with more midlane read.  With proper maintenance, I have found this ball to only get stronger and more reliable.

I hope my first review was helpful (unlike the one below.)  If you have any advice on what else I should include with a review, feel free to lay it on me!  Thanks for reading.

you may score higher than me, but i'm a better bowler.

heavy = morich seek & destroy
med/heavy-medium = ebonite big one
med/light-light = ebonite crossfire

I have had this ball since 02/06 and this ball is sort of an enigma to me.

Drilled :

 0 0O
     @   O

  0 mb

I have tried several surfaces witht his ball(OOB,1000,800, now 400)

To me its not the big Heavy Oil ball some of the marketing would have you believe, however its a very good ball.  It shines in med-heavy conditions.  Due to the cover being a "longer" cover it does not loose energy early and has great midlane which translates into great backend reaction.  Also, with the "longer" cover it makes the ball more versatile.  The 400 surface is the best for me when I encounter med-heavy conditions.  Because I was expecting a stronger ball I was initially dissapointed, but having thrown it for a few months I have to say I'm happy I purchased The Big One.

All in all if you bowl on anything with a good amount of oil I would recommend this ball.  If you are looking for a hook monster then there are other choices that would be better IMHO.

My drilling picture didn't come out right.  The Pin and MB are stacked and the weight hole is near the PAP.

I have had the big for for a year, this winter I average 224 and this summer 219. The ball is lead out with the #2 drilling. I roll over the 9th board to the 6 or 7 board and down and in a controlled short. it work great for me other bowler with this ball are having a had time getting it to hook for them, and give up on the ball.I like all the Ebonite One balls.

I got the ebonite for one week and i can tell only good things about it.
When i just got him and start playing all the bowlers got problems with the oil they say its  too heavy, my ball was hook like a maniac and nothing stop him.
If you looking for good ball that hook like there is no tomorrow the big one is your ball.

Pin to PAP Distance: 5"
Preferred Spin Axis to PAP Distance: 7 1/2"
Degree Layout Conversion: 105 Degrees
Balance Hole: None
Surface Preparation: Box Condition

What I Was Looking For in this Ball and Layout:

The first Big One that I drilled (reviewed early on this website) gave me a decent ball reaction but really laid off in the backend portion of the lane. This shouldn't really surprise given the layout that was used on it. With this Big One, I wanted to keep the box surface but get a reaction that gave me just a little more "pop" in the backend. I was going for a reaction that had similar length to my original Big One but continued through the backend just a little more.

What I Ended Up With in this Ball and Layout:

This Big One is a great example of how a bowling ball can work out for you if you just think through the layout and lane play process a little bit. This Big One clears the front portion of the lane similar to my first ball. The Big One needs some head oil to push through the heads. It's very difficult to get the ball down lane without some front-end skid. This shouldn't surprise anyone, and the fact that the ball reacts in this manner is fine, given that there are many other options with more length in the Ebonite brand line. I tested this ball alongside a new Angular One, as well as a new RXS300. This ball rolls significantly earlier than either of those.

The breakpoint move I get with this ball is very predictable and is perfect to accomplish my goal. The move at the spot is very smooth and controllable due to the 105 degree layout. When the ball begins to respond to friction, it just "tips" over and doesn't make any sudden moves. This is advantageous for my game, as I need smoother reactions at times. I've used a 5" pin distance to control the amount of track flare in the reaction. By then combining with the weaker preferred spin axis location, I've managed to create a smooth reacting dull surface ball.

In overall hook, this ball would be pretty deceiving to the untrained user. The problem here is that the RG, differential, and coverstock are strong enough to play inside angles. But through layout, I've created a smoother reaction ball. This ball and layout is best when playing outside angles closer to the gutter with my game. When I have to start throwing this ball away from the pocket, carry drastically decreases and it's time to go to a lesser friction ball. This Big One has the ability to cover a lot of boards, but it's just not beneficial in the layout I've chosen. By staying with straighter launch angles, I'll optimize my chances for success with this ball.

Length from 1-10 (Early to Late)
3.0

Breakpoint Move from 1-10 (Smooth to Sharp)
5.5

Overall Hook from 1-10 (Low to High)
7.0

This ball is great for about 100-150 games. after that it is even better. once this cover wears out you have 2 choices. you could hit the ball with chemical, or leave it as is. if you hit it with chemical to take the oil out of the ball, it will bring the cover back to life for about 50 more games. if you leave it dead, the ball will be completly predictable and will never jump, or over-react on you.

My layout on my first ball is quite weird.

1)pin is in the center of my span, cg-mb inline at 20deg. hole on pap.

I keep the cover at 2000-2500 grit. the ball is early and readable.

2)pin, cg, mb are inline with the center of my span with the pin above the fingers.

i keep this one polished.  this ball is long and snappy.

OVERALL: Great ball for the more experienced bowler that is going to use it to make some money. If you want it to last a long time.... this is not the ball for you.

I have the 1st three balls in the ONE series, The Big One is drilled per reconmendation #3 with the box finish. The name 'Big One' really fits this one, it has the strongest backend and hitting power I've seen in a long time, shooting on a oily house condition this ball transition through the heads and sniffed out the dry and exploded the pins on contact, truly a great piece of equipment very first gm with this ball 269, it was the 2nd gm of league then shot 229 the 3rd, 767 was my series the following week, the Angular One is next on my wish list, Great job Ebonite, forever a Ebonite bowler.

See profile for stats. First Ebonite ball drilled in over 8 years.

Lay Out is 5.25 from PAP, bomb at 75deg angle, 7/8" wt hole down the axis 2" and 3" deep. Took this down from 4000 to 1000abr.

I have used the Big One on several longer oil patterns such as the Scorpion pattern and the TOC 50' pattern that the local tournament club I bowl in used this past weekend. This ball reads the midlane consistantly. On the Scorpion (41 ft) pattern, it gives me a board on each side of my target to play with.

The hitting power is excellent as this ball reads the breakpoint pretty well. The most awesome thing is to use this on a pattern like the TOC and have the ball come back with the faintest hints of oil, while other covers have slick spots for a track.

I have thrown this in comparison to the Total Inferno and Wizard. The look thru the pins is not as sharp as the Total, but it definitely snaps the ten out stronger than the Wizard. I just wish I would have drilled one of these when they came out last spring.

Layout is pin (2/3) right above the ring finger with the cg kicked to the right.  When I first got this ball it was too much for a ths.  So I just used it for tournaments, when I got to state last year I sanded it down to 400 and the ball worked great on the juice we had down there.  Got back and shined it back up and fell in love with it.  Ball gets down the lane great and has a very strong arc on the backend. Great for playing down and in.

The pin is above and between my fingers and the cg is below my ring finger. I love this ball. It has the motion of The One, which I loved, but a little earlier and more backend.

This is my favorite pot game ball. I can start with it and use it all night. It isn't uncommon for us to bowl 15 games after the second shift of a 5 man mens league. I can keep moving left and the ball gets down the lane easy for a ball that covers this many boards.

I have scored the best when I come around the ball and swing it. I have never scored well with this ball playing straight up the back and going down the boards, which I do the best.

This is a great ball on a medium to medium heavy THS and as they dry out as long as you can move left.
