the one i gave back. went down the lanes like my truck on ice "fishtailed". never started up. would decide to roll sparactically. never could get the same roll twice. good ball on bumper lanes. bad ball on regular lanes

I have left a review for this ball once before , but just wanted to add some info . I have around 150 games on this ball and it is still as great as the day I bought it. It is a hard hooking ball. Dont get me wrong it doesnt hook as hard as new but I bowled my highest game ever with around 100 games on it . So ?? Hook is irrelevent to consistency!!!!! I have seen 60-65 yr old men who would out  bowl most guys on this forum . I am not a great bowler but I know enough to get by.

Finally got the thumb fixed so now I can make an accurate review of the ball. Have always been an avid Ebonite fan and I bought the ball to see what the hype was. Out the box, was not a fan at all. The ball just gave me too much over/under, then too the feel was not good either. So I took the factory polish off of it and repolished it with track clean and polish. This made a small difference, better reaction received. Still saw it as a "glorified dry lane ball". But now that the pitch is fixed, WOW. Definitely a great ball for your THS or your basic medium pattern. Definitely works better in the "wet-sand" stage. Extremely readable and hits like a truck. I can finally see what the hype is about. Another good ball from Ebonite.

I absolutely love this ball. I was told by the pro shop owner to purchase the Big One, but I decided against it after reading the reviews on this site.

My average jumped (literally) from a 165 to a 205 just by purchasing this ball and changing one small aspect of my game.

I have to give big props to the pro shop owner at Southwest Lanes, Bakersfield California for his drilling and layout help, not to mention the fact that this ball fits me better than any I've ever owned.

I have had this ball a few weeks mine is drilled 5 inches from pap and mb swung just right of my thumb. the ball is smoother than i expected i was expecting a stronger motion but instead i got a smooth late arc to the pocket. over all the ball is controllable and can handle med-medheavy oil and a pretty good go to ball. hoping my blackwidow that will come tomorrow will cover a few more boards to fill the gap where the one lacks.

Updated review:

Have been using it almost half of a year on many different oil patterns and a couple differnet synthetic surfaces.  Tried it with the box finish, 2000 with and without polish, 1000 with and without polish, and 1500 matte.  The ball is awesome ocassionally but more often than not it either hooks too soon or too late for me to play my normal speed, release and areas I'm comfortable with.  Too condition specific for me.

my favorite ball ever of all times... i had one over 300 games and died i bought the vapor zone fell in love and came back to this...i am destined to get a 300 with this....289 my high game with this ball going to be 300 soon

I have gone through 3 of these balls and I loved each one.  The first 2 cracked near the fingers (the second started at the fingers and went all the way around the ball) and I was leary about getting a 3rd one.  But it has stood up over time.

I have no drill pattern to go by except the pin is above the ring finger and it has a small wieght hole in the side.  It goes long and rolls up into the pocket.  If I need to move inside and swing it, I can do it but I have to be careful about not putting a lot of wrist into it.  I defiantely have to stroke it.  

It is a great ball and it eventually paid off for me last night with a 300 and 796 series.

ball is awesome in wood or syntetic lanes ... i tried the morich awesome flip and the ebonite whirl wind but keeps coming back to this one and for some good reason i always play good with this ball.

I drilled another One. This is my 3rd.  I laid this one out with the pin 4 1/8 from my PAP and the Mass Bias was 4 1/2.  The Mass Bias was on my VAL which caused me to have to put a weight hole in the ball.

With this layout, this ball was clean through the front part of the lanes and picked up the strong mid-lane roll.  By sanding this ball with 1000 grit Abralon pad, the ball made a lot smoother transition to the pocket, and was less sensitive to carry down.

I have drilled and thrown 3 of these balls now, and I think that it is a very versitile ball for fitting bowlers different style and lane conditions, with the right layout and surface, this ball would be good in just about anyones hands.

The way I feel is 'The One' is THE ONE ball you get in the 'One' line of Ebonite Balls.

Left in box finish, sheesh its shiny, and played a swing line.  This ball hits hard I mean the corners scatter like cockroaches after you turn on the lights.  

This ball is a Juggernaut, it slashed through pins like Wolverine and catapulted pins into weapons of mass destruction like a Cat5 Hurricane Storm; saw X-Men Last Stand yesterday.

With box surface I noticed that I cannot use Hello Kitty type soft lift, it will tap tap tap like Fred Astaire.  But a little dab of lift will do ya and pornography will show up on your screen: XXXXXXXXXXXXX.  Thats right 13 X's, the shockwave of my 12th strike created a Tsunami that knocked down 10 pins in an AMF Center in Siberia.

Its long strong go bang a gong type lovely.

What can I say about this ball except...WOW! This ball is very predictable and makes a good continuous roll to the pocket. Not exactly sure of the drilling...pin is above and slightly to the right of the ring finger, tiny weight hole in the ball also. This ball hooks considerably more than my Overtime, but doesnt have the same hitting power. Also, in the 4000 grit condition i sanded it too, it seems to die out if your get it TOO far out or if the lanes are dry...so only use this ball on medium on up.

Versatillity = 8/10

Hitting Power = 7.5/10

Hook = 9/10

Backend = 8.5/10

Overall = a solid 9/10...great ball

I've had this ball for several months now and have a lot of good games on it.  Here are the specs as I have them:

weight:  14 lb
pin:  3-4"
tw:  1-2 oz
drill:  Ebonite pattern 1
Lanes:  AMF synthetic, THS, 38', medium oil, 7 units on 7 outside boards

The specs above show the nominal conditions in my house, however, the conditions change depending on the 'condition' of the lane machine.  Having hang spots and even oil strips going all the way to the pins is not unusual, causing a need to change to a completely different line, even on a THS. I've been very impressed with the versatility of the ball and the way it predictably responds to changes in ball surface, ball speed and hand position. Now that there are several new One series balls, there are alternatives to the 'original,' but I like this One.  On a typical night, I stand 23, roll it over 17 at the arrows, swing it out to 7 and it makes a smooth, strong arc off the drier boards, carrying very well at 17mph.  Nice ball.

I've found the best finish to be 2000 grit polished with Ebonite Factory Finish, though polishing overtop a 500-grit surface is also good.  The published finish using polish over 4000 grit makes the ball too squirty for me.

Long story short....... Great ball for about oh....til both that i had cracked on me. the first one cracked on me and they replaced it. then the 2nd cracked on me, so i had them give me a Big One and i gave it to my dad for fathers day.

Well, first off, I got this ball about 2 weeks ago and I threw my first 300 with it a couple days ago, so it has that going for it. This thing turns on backends really hard, but you have to be real precise with it, if you pull it it's gonna spin in the oil and if you let up on the speed just a bit it's through the nose. I stand in the middle of the lane and feed it out to about the 5 board and it comes back hard everytime, but if you're not used to swinging the ball out it's gonna take you a couple sessions to get the feel of. Also, get used to either throwing the ball straight at cross alley spares, slowing the speed way down, or switching balls because this thing doesn't pick up until the back end and in the middle of the lane it doesn't really do anything at all. I may still sand this thing down to 2000 like alot of others have said, but all in all it's a very good ball if you can keep control of it, hits the pins very hard and usually clears out the corners.
