Flat out awesome. I am sure that if you liked the R squared and Any of the V2's this ball is a must drill. This ball will hook!! DO NOT be afraid of drilling this ball. It is clean, yes, but clean in the right place. If you have a drilling that you love, put it in this ball and hold on. It is very driller friendly. I am very happy with everything about the ball. It does all the right things. It carries like all the V2 balls keeping the pins low. I drilled mine fairly strong (4" pin X 2" CG)and boy does that ball corner at the spot. With this drilling with the x-hole it is every bit as strong at the break point as the KI pearl. Have fun with this one.

Well the V2 Dry was a niche ball for some on drier lanes and those who had very soft speed and or little hand. Those who had trouble with it wanted more recovery with the length. YOU GOT YOUR WISH with the V2 Clean.  The V2 Clean is a great compliment to the V2 sanded (polished), its several feet later and still has the control and predictability the Vortex name is known for. For those who "Get On It" this ball will make a strong move similar to the Killer Instinct Pearl reaction, but with a cleaner reaction up front. This makes it a great step down from the Killer Instinct Pearl.

The V2 Clean was drilled with the pin at 4 3/4 inches, mass bias in strong position, and no balance hole. The starting pin was 3 inches out and starting top weight was 3 ounces.  The surface was used in box condition.  The conditions bowled on so far include, 38 ft pattern on choppy wood with a wall, 36ft second shift wall on proanvillane, 36 ft medium load sport pattern on proanvilane, and 39 ft medium volume sport pattern on proanvilane.

The V2 Clean on the wood surface allows me to play aggressively at the infamous 10 board oil line which I rarely get to play with any newer pieces.  The ball holds the line deep down the lane and rolls strong but predictable allowing me to play the tight line.  Normally one would have to use piece with an old shell or weaker core to achieve the length and this prevents the ball from hitting well, the V2 Clean solves this issue.

The V2 Clean on the proanvilane allowed for various looks depending on the amount of breakdown.  On the 36 ft patterns the V2 Clean had enough guts to turn the corner from inside angle where the Killer Instinct Pearl had worked earlier.  On the 39 ft sport pattern the V2 Clean was the next ball choice down from the Killer Instinct Pearl from the outside angle.  In each situation the V2 Clean provided a controlled rolling look. And when I got on it from inside the track it made a flippy move.

For those who were fans of the Nitro R/2 and anyone who likes the Vortex 2's this ball is a MUST BUY. If you have a V2 polished up and it starts to roll up a bit early and kinda go flat on the backend, the V2 Clean is calling your name.

This ball is a monster. I got it about a week ago and haven't been able to throw it on and shot other than a long oil sport shot. Hopefully it will calm down sometime because it hits like a tank when it gets to the hole.

I was able to throw this ball at the Ebonite Demo Day here in Brookpark, Ohio back in the middle of December. You can check my profile for my specs, but just know that I have good speed and a lot of hand.

All of the balls at Demo Day were drilled with the pin under the ring finger and the cg stacked below.

My first impression of the V2 Clean was that it is a tremendous ball. I got to throw this ball on 2 lanes with different volumes of oil. One lane was oiled heavily in the middle, with some dry bump outside of 5, and not much dry on the backend. The other lane was pretty much burnt up from earlier play on it.

On the oil lane, it would not turn up in the oil that much, but if I was straight enough through the heads with it, even in the oil, it would hit exceptionally well. Also, I was able to swing the V2 Clean from the oil to the dry bump, and snap it back to the hole with similarly fantastic results. So far, so great.

To make it even better, the V2 Clean was also tremendous on the burnt lane. As long as I was deep, and not projecting straight through the heads, but going left to right, I had great skid through the heads, rounding turn at the corner, and continuous sharp arc on the backend, with, once again, awesome hit.

Of all the balls I tested at Demo Day, I was most impressed by this ball. The versatility of this ball was amazing for me. I think the polished solid as opposed to a pearl cover make a large difference in this ball. It doesn't have over/under problems or too sharp breakpoints. It just could find a line on any condition for me. The straighter players tended to find this ball on the lower side of total hook, and could only use it on drier stuff. However, this ball is a crankers DREAM. Hook potential is medium, length is good (not VERY long), corner is round, backend is sharp arc (not snap), hit is tremendous. I have one being drilled now, and I am dying to get it. Great ball.

Hi,

This is an excelent ball for higher friction conditions and an excellent complement to the V2 dry.  I layed mine out with the pin 4 1/2 from my PAP and the CG slightly to the right of the stacked position.  The ball had no trouble getting down the lane like the V2 dry and provided a stronger, more continuous movement to the pocket than the dry.

Thanks,

Ryan

This ball is very well named.  The V2 clean certainly gets through the front part of the lanes very clean and is stronger than the V2 dry.  A very great choice of equipment for medium to average lane conditions and most house shots.  Any drilling can be used on this ball.  Another great intro to the V2 line- have fun with it.

The V2 Clean is a great successor to the V2 Pearl (now discontinued).  As a less-hooking solid reactive, the core and cover combine to get the ball "cleanly" through the fronts, with good mid-lane roll and a nice strong arc back end reaction.

I drilled mine with pin above the middle finger and CG kicked out slightly )to about 1/2 positive side).  This is one of the best medium to medium-dry balls I've ever thrown.  The ball clears the fronts very consistently, and reads the mid lane just a bit stronger than a Blazing Inferno (these two balls compliment each other very well).  It clears the fronts much better than a V2, even polished, so this is now a much better option than a highly polished V2 for this condition.

My hook rating (BTM style): 43
My rating of the ball:  Oil: 3  Medium: 9.5  Dry: 8
(If the lanes are completely burned up, you will need something a bit weaker).

I drilled my V2 Clean 5" pin 3 3/4" above grip midline (over fingers), and cg kicked 2" right of grip centerline with a small weight hole on val 1" below pap.
For a long oily wall this ball went to long in the oil and unloaded all at once on the dry. On our sport condition 38' (it has a very short buffout and bad surface) it jerked to hard after leaving the pattern. The V2 Clean saves most everything for the friction. A stronger pin placement would have been better for these two conditions, but this layout works great on PBA patterns A and C. They (PBA A&C) have longer buffouts.
When I sanded my V2 Clean with a 4000 Abralon pad my reaction on the wall and the sport condition was much better. The total hook was not a great deal more, but the read from the oil to the dry was smoother therefore more controllable.
The V2 Clean is a great buy for anyone looking to control medium to dry conditions

what a great med to dry ball.on a wall house shot i played a small swing 15 -5 and when it hits the dry it makes a big move with lots of power. on a burnt up shot 2nd shift or 3rd game of leauge i can move inside and still have great movement on the big end. its just what they say it is long and strong. it will be a great ball for later games in tournaments. this is a great dry lane ball.

I punched it up about two weeks ago. Finally have a track in it and feel I have bowled enough games with it to give a decent review. For my specs, check my profile.

16# drilled pin over ring, CG kicked out aabout 1/4 to the right.

I bought it specifically for a house with little oil in the fronts and a bad reverse block. Been playing deep with it, standing 30, targeting 20, out to about 10-11. I couldn't be happier playing that line. When I played it in the track area (8-10, down and in) it was a little squirrely. As previously stated, this ball is definitely made for light to medium conditions. If you have screaming back ends, with head oil, I think this ball made be too jumpy. It clears the heads and gets down the lane with ease, it reads very consistently for me in midlane, and has a menacing back end. Don't be mistaken, this ball does not have a weak move to the pocket. The drilling I have in  it emphasizes it, but it still has a STRONG move to the pocket. I have yet to own a ball that stores energy as well as this one. Obviously, with the previuous stated, hit and carry is not a problem.

Beware though, any more oil than a medium and this ball just keeps going....

Overall, this ball is fast becoming one of my favorites....

Thanks for reading, Good Luck!

This is another ball in the V2 line that is very good. With my big hook game this is a great addition for my game. I have the pin 4 1/2 inches from my axis with the pin below bridge on center of grip line. Again I've been using this ball on my house shot. I have no problem getting deep inside with this ball and the carry is still good. With this lay out I get very good length and still have plenty of hook on the backend. I can play my normal game with this ball. I think if you hook the ball you will like this ball a lot.

pin out 5" CG 2.5" below ring Pin 3.5" right and slightly above ring. I've been using this ball more and more since I got it. Like I said earlier, goes veryyy long for me. Threw my Strong in practice last week, then switched to the Clean for regulation and shot 669

sorry cant tell my measurements, but i have to hand it to this ball, it has great carry. the first 15-20 games or so it is a little picky in the backend, but after that, this ball becomes even more predictable and carry increases. i had a 175 average before i bought this ball and it fell a few points when i bought it but now i'm averaging at least 190 per game. this ball is great for anyone who wants a little more length than the V2 sanded and a stronger break. personally, i love this ball and it is always the first out of my bag

I've been throwing my friends V2 Clean because i love it so much.  Its probably one of the smoothest rolling pieces i have ever come across. 3" Pin in the finger CG kick out and down 2".  Its pretty basic, but man alive does it hit like a ton of bricks.  Need to get the money together to get my own so i dont wear his out, like most of my other Ebonite balls i fear that it will lose its power after a few games are put on it though.

The V2 Clean is as clean as the V2 line comes in the front part of the lane.  It has added recovery that the solid lacks.  Probably one of my top 5 favorite balls.  Strengths -- Clean through the fronts and mids and angular on the back.  Weakness -- Sometimes a little too flippy/under flippy if on the fresh or on wet dry.  Best on more blended conditions.

Have never thrown one.. Just thought everyone would like to know this little story!!    John Janawicz, Technician who works for Kegel..  Shot the Highest Series in NON-MASTERS ABC Tournament 101 year history this past Thursday on lanes 19-20 of the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, NV.. and he was rolling a V2 Clean he had mapped out by Bill Calhoun in the Ebonite Booth at the Stadium!!  300-279-279 for an 858 Singles Record.. and he currently leads the All Events as well with a 2224? I think?

I had an old Optyx ball that had drilling issues that just made the thing roll like an EGG! Talked to Mike Quitter at Ebonite and he suggested replacing it with the V2 Clean. So far i've just been able to use it at tournaments since it just hooks way too much on the house shot but so far i am very pleased with the balls reaction. Also thanx to Mike Quitter

i need some help....its either this ball or the x-factor (the first one)... i cant decide which ball to get ..its a very hard decision...i mean both balls will work on either oil/dry lanes and im thinking about getting this ball cuz its cheaper in price....so i usually throw columbia 300 but im going to either start throwing storm or just use this ball....so if someone could help me on my decision like some comparison ..it would be greatly appreciated!!

x factor will hook earlier and more on backend, v2 clean is just that, smoooooth. x factor will work better on oil than v2 clean. just depends on what you want out of the ball. this is usually not where you post this type of question

Drilled this ball up to be taken to the Nationals tournament. Drill pattern is pin over the fingers with CG about a half inch off my centerline.

Using this ball on house patterns I have learned one thing, when it gets to the pocket expect it to carry. In my case consistently getting it to the pocket is the question. Even when the ball looks like its going to hit light pins go flying off the deck. I've just got to see how it plays on the tournament condition in Reno.

Drilled this with a 4” pin and the CG 4” from my PAP. This ball does what its name says; it is very clean through the front part or the lane and saves its energy for the backend. Great ball for a blended condition or when the lanes have seen some play and the oil has pushed down a little. The ball hooks too much in the back on a fresh condition. It is a great go to ball when the V2 starts to hook too much. This ball is a great addition to the V2 line.

Was able to snag one of these to...Loved it at the demo day, so I knew I needed one in the bag. Setup pin over and right of ring, cg straight down. no hole....also polished with black magic.

This is one of those pieces that you can throw on anything except extreme flood. I get a very smooth transition when I get it to the dry, and it's not overly jumpy, due to the polish.. The only down fall I see is that I get a huge amount of flare, close to 7 inches, even in it's polished state, and I get extreme length due to it.. I need really clean backends for it. on the few patterns I've bowled on, i find it to work a little better when having to play more direct of a line, then the big loop, that way it's a little easier to play with, and when I play straighter, i reduce about 2 inches of flare.. I very well made piece from ebonite..

and remember...If it doesn't say V2....it probably won't work!

Have had this ball for about 2 months now. Drilled it up with pin 1" above midline and 1" right of gripline, CG kicked out with weight hole in thumb positive quadrant, basically a true Revs Leverage drill.

Anyway, for those who remember the R2, if you loved that ball, buy this one.

I can't say enough good about the Clean. Very clean thru the heads, great mid-lane read and explosive backend. Fresh house, burnt house, pro patterns, carrydown, doesn't matter. Ball rolls the same and reacts the same for me on everything. Great compliment to the rest of the V2 line.

Another fantastic ball from Ebonite.

Got my hands on one of these balls, ohh boy, fresh oil or carry down, it'll find the pocket.  Polished, with the pin over the fingers (left handed), once you put some forward roll on it, it'll carry pretty well.  Weak 10 pins and a 7 once in a while will plague you, but it'll carry 90% of the time.

I was experimenting with drill patterns and decided to drill this ball up Axis Leverage for a house that has a 35 foot House shot with screaming back ends, straight out of the box with the factory finish this ball was definately too strong off the break point it was loosing energy and hitting flat leaving alot of corners, decided to go back in the Pro Shop and remove the Ebonite Factory Finish polish and apply Ebonite Extender Polish.  That was definately the trick this tuned this ball down and made the ball skid about 5 more feet on this condition before it started to make a move, this time ball was crushing the pocket killing the 10 pin. Was able to play the same area for 5 games before making your standard 2 board adjustments to the right. Lives up to its name Clean through the heads and still got enough kick on the backends.  I was impressed picked up 2 more V2 Cleans for future Sport Shots axis leverage layout is 15 LB with 3 inch pin, Axis hole on PAP

I traded this ball away and a year later, voila! Back in my hands. Since my style has changed drastically, I'll post another review.

Self:
Right-handed stroker
Low track (high tilt?)
250-300 rpm
Usually around 30 degrees axis rotation
15-17 mph
...more in the profile I guess

Ball:
14lbs
3" pin
High gloss polish
Pic of layout in profile.

Drilling:
I chose to put the pin 5 1/2" from PAP over ring finger
CG kicked out to the right

Reaction:
On my home lanes, they double oil the middles in an attempt to stop the lanes from drying out as fast as they do. Not your THS. Here, the V2 Clean is way to weak, for my style at least. Gets way down the lane and by the time it starts turning it's too late.

Five minutes down the road and on your second shift THS, the Clean is a totally different ball. Stick it out to five and watch this ball snap back with authority. In the oil a little longer, the ball gets down the lane easier and still has the power to kick through the oil and kick out the ten.

The ball can easily handle mediums to almost dry lanes. Then again, I track low. Under most circumstances, the ball doesn't snap and has a nice strong continuous arc to the pocket. However, there are those conditions that make this ball want to really turn the corner. Don't be discouraged by this ball's manly colors. It packs a punch at the pins and easily riding its way to one of my all time favorites. As you can see, from my other reviews and posts, I love Ebonite and this ball is no different.

COMMENTS
This ball is very smooth for the conditions I bowled on. This ball had a smooth move on the heads, and got through the midlane and had a more "skid/snap" reaction on the backend. I like using the ball when the lanes start to break down, or if there is a lot of carrydown. Not a bad piece by Ebonite, but it isn't exactly my cup of tea, as it didn't really fit my game so well.

I loved the coverstock of the TPC Shooter XL(Big Bang XL Solid) and loved the fact that they wrapped a modified V2 core around it.  For shorter spotty conditions, sport conditions below 38ft in distance, and light volumes the V2 Clean is one of the best choices I have in my bag.

I have this ball layed out with the pin over the bridge(5 1/2" to PAP) and a large weighthole 6 1/2" from the center of grip on the midline to give me a touch more late flare.

With the pin in the high R.G. position and the factory finish on this ball, I don't think there is a condition dry enough to make this ball check up in early.  Distance and an easy read through the fronts in the strongpoint of this ball.  On fresher house conditions this ball can jerk very hard off of the spot when playing the friction but in lighter volumes and shorter low ratio conditions, it gives a much better and controlled read since there is less wet/dry to react to.

The added x-hole really gives a strong continuation through the pin-deck which was exactly what I predicted prior to drilling.  It's so nice to see a reaction come to life and be precisely what I wanted it for prior to drilling.  The v2 Clean is a great asset for the player who likes to keep their trajectory straighter and still see a smooth reaction off of the turn in the backend.

This ball has a 2-3 inch pin and 3 oz. top weight.  It is drilled with pin above ring finger and cg slightly kicked out.

....p

This ball goes long and has a nice turn into the pocket.  It has a very hard arc on med-dry lanes.  I can flatten out my hand and throw this ball up the 10 board or put some hand on it and throw from 20-5 but the lanes need to be a little bit drier.  This might be because the ball has over 300 games and is dieing out on me.  It still hits like a truck and travels with me to tournaments.  This ball hooks a little less than my Lane 1 H20 and not nearly as much as my Track Freak Out.  Having said that this ball has great control even after 300 games and still is easy to clean and control.

Bowling at the KTC we have the privlige to bowl on many different types of oil patterns and out of all the ones we have bowled on this one is definatly the hardest one of the group. boards outside of 10 is out of bounds and anything inside of 18 there is no hold. with my speed and hand its hard to find a ball to match up on the pattern. This ball on the other hand... not a problem. takes out that over under on the dry and just moves in for a strike. We were playing baker games, starting out around 13 at the arrows and 11 at the breakpoint. As the lanes started to change which happened fast and keeps you moving meaning the reason for the name 'Pure Evil' around game 5 I was in to 18 swinging to 13 still carrying. Once the Righties started to migrate past 20-25 I was having a hard time figuring out why my ball started to check early. Then I started to pay more attention to were they were playing and adjusted off that. All I ended up doing was lofting it past the heads a little and the ball went right back to work. For this performance on this pattern I'm extremely happy.

Likes: super CLEAN in the fronts, smooth off the break point, carries like a MAC truck.

Dislikes: non thus far
