On Edit: Some of you may think I'm dissing this ball for not hooking on the THS but if you read between the lines I just said the ball burns up and dies in the lack of oil. That's a good thing, now I know I have a reliable oiler.

Got this ball through a trade with gstick777. Was drilled pin right below ring finger roughly 4.5 to 5" to pap. MB about 2-3 inches down and an 1" right of thumb. Ball was a bit polished from the lane oil so I hit it with a grey scotchbrite. So it's dull as of now.

So first time I used it was on a second shift pair from league. Tossed it and I was either expecting it to hook off the lane or do nothing. Pretty much did nothing. And haven't used it much since. Since I got it from a trade and I dont know how many games were on it, I decided to soak the ball in hot water with some simple green and then give it a good cleaning with some Neo-Tac's Hook-It. Took it with me for open bowling and decided to put a piece of white tape near my pap to see just how fast this baby is losing its rotation. Luckily there was some oil present, almost a fresh medium except the pattern is fairly long. Well, threw this beast and it started checking up right after the arrows! There's just no way this thing could ever be used here. It's that strong.

Cant wait to test it out on some heavier oiled lanes in the upcoming tournaments. I've been having trouble with that certain type of shot. A lot of oil up front but flying, and I mean flying, backends. For my style anyways. Hopefully this ball will read the midlane and take some jump out of the backend. That's why I got it. There's so many of the Obsessions on Ebay for cheap that anyone looking for a decent oil ball should give them a look.

Alright, here's my update on the topic.

Finally found my PAP and the Obsession is layed out with the pin 4 to 4 1/2" away from my PAP below the bridge. The MB is about 5" from my PAP or 2" down from the thumb and 1" right. The ball is hit with a lite grey scotchbrite(around 1000grit). CG is located about 1" above the thumb. No weighthole necessary. Additional info about my game can be found in the profile.

The lanes were wooden with quite a bit of oil out, not sure of the exacts. It's what I'd consider, your THS just with a lot more oil. Saw a lot of Total Shock and Awes, WMB's, Ultimate Infernos being used.

Anyway, in league, this ball doesn't do much as it's burning up but still hits strong. Definately not the condition for the ball. And that's not why I bought it anway.

However, in tournaments, where there is a lot of oil down and flying backends, I figured I needed something stronger than the weakly drilled Ulimate Inferno and perhaps a particle ball to help tame down the backend. And tame it down it does. If you read my post about the Absolute Inferno on wooden lanes, I figured I needed something much stronger so I whipped out the Apex and played straight down between 1rst and 2nd arrow and the ball revved up real nice and just arced into the pocket with devastating force. I was hooked on the first ball.

After the tournament, I tried out my Hybrid DirtyBomb to compare and this thing did circles around teh Apex, which was not burning up. Yet my Absolute still does nothing The HDB went real long and had a sharp snap on the back which I found rather unreliable on this condition. I bought the Apex to conquer this type of condition and it behaved exactly as I believed it would. Even though it's an older ball, it still works wonders when an early, heavy roll and a nice smooth arc is desired. The carry was much better than I had anticipated. High hits, were not that big of a problem seeing as the ball has a heavy forward roll which didn't drive too hard into the pocket. Light hits carried extremely well and flush you didn't have to worry about. Overall, an awesome ball for medium heavy on up to conquer flying backends. Definately a keep in my books. And the best thing, didn't pay much for it.

Had this ball for 4 years or so now. Absolutely wonderful. This is the only sanded ball I have in my arsenal. When I was young, delivered the gutter to gutter hook I wanted to see...and now, delivers the truck hitting action I love to see/hear. I cannot tell you how many times another ball will strike and I'll pull this ball out for a fill shot and it will totally demolish the rack...10 in the pit.

I cannot stress how awesome this ball is. GET IT IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY.

I have looked and am still looking for one in new/like new condition with less than 40 games on it (it did lose a little bit of midlane read after 40 games, I will admit, but not enough that a 3 board adjustment couldn't fix).

Contact me if you know anything about getting any of the "APEX" series in this condition...rockerbowler18@yahoo.com
