***NEW VIDEO - THE ONLY ONE***
« on: December 13, 2006, 04:07:44 AM »
Okay, so yesterday while I was shooting SmashTime Pearl videos for all you, I was able to get some other vids done, and have finished putting this together.  I think it will explain how I really feel about a couple of the balls in my bag!

Click on "View All Media" and open "The Only One" video.  Not so instructional or comparative, but definitely emotionally attaching!

Let me know what you think!

Leftyhi-trak,

I hope I'm understanding the question right, so I'll just go for it.  In the "Only One" video, there are two One balls.  One with a 70 degree layout which is fairly long, quick at the breakpoint, and more of a "prototypical" bowling ball reaction.  There is also a 25 degree layout ball with a small weight hole.  This ball rolls considerably earlier and is much smoother at the breakpoint than the first ball.  You'll see that the ball is also sanded lightly to 2000 grit Abralon.

I think you're asking about the SmashTime Pearl that I drilled with the 10 degree layout.  I chose this layout because many times I like to see balls that get to the breakpoint, make their move, and than roll straighter in the backend.  All of my friends tell me that I like to see a different type of ball reaction than most.  We all have our natural shot that we like to see, or the shot that "fits" our eye.  And typically when we get a ball that doesn't fit our eye, we tend to either not throw it, or even get rid of it.  Even though the ball may accomplish the goal in mind.

With that SmashTime Pearl, I was trying to create a ball with a smoother breakpoint that read the lane earlier than your typical pearlized ball.  And I'll say that I succeeded with this ball.  I think you'll agree that the ball is soft off of the dry, and appears easy to control the pocket.

The lane condition in mind with regards to this ball reaction is actually shorter patterns, lane conditions with quick wet to dry transitions, and instances where I need to play straighter launch angles.  By getting the pin lower and using a moderately aggressive pin position (for my game), I was able to create a ball that did this.  You'll notice that the SmashTime really labors when I get it into the heavier oil, and I have several other Ebonite balls that are far better at playing these angles.

Hopefully I've answered the question you had.  If not, please be sure to let me know.  I operate the Pro Shop Help Desk Hotline from Powerhouse Training Clinics, so it truthfully is part of my "job" to help you guys (and ladies) with all of these questions, concerns, and issues.  Thanks again, and Bowl to Win!
