ebonite should use the same rating system for balls
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:21:26 AM »
this is more of a statement than a question. since ebonite has four different companies under their umbrella it only makes sense to use the same rating matrix to describe the ball reaction for the four different companies. this would make it much easier to compare balls from ebonite, hammer, columbia and track. i emailed this suggestion to someone at ebonite and the response that i got is that it is a source of friction between the marketing managers for each brand. i personally think that they should put their egos aside and do what's best for the customer and the ebonite international as a whole and use ebonite's rating matrix since it has more info than the other companies.

what are your opinions?

From a bowlers standpoint it would be a wonderful thing.
From a realistic standpoint, no company ever wants to admit that someone else has a ball that hooks more; I am sure that they look at it in the sense that it might hinder one companies ability to sell over others based on what ratings they give.

The other problem is you would lose possible sells across the board if people see how similar many of the bowling balls are.

How little difference there may be between the newest HP ball from each company, or midline or low line.

A consumer would be less likely to buy say a Plague and a 715T if they could compare them apples to apples.

Be good, or be good at it.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Sir, IMO,  what Ebonite has done is to spur competition between the 4 brands...

When they first took over Hammer, they said that Hammer would operate on their own...And Hammer had much success...   And when they took over Track and Columbia they appear to have followed the same path...

Recently at their seminar I was amazed to see just how the reps were all for their own brands...We had a Hammer rep who had to do the Columbia presentation.. Wasn't pretty...

So maybe they feel that each brand not only needs to compete with Storm and Brunswick, but must compete against their own family of brands....Keeps them all on their toes...IMO

I would do it the same way.  If let's say, I owned toyota, nissan, mitsubishi, subaru, I, of course would not intermingle the sales/marketing staff (why would anyone for that matter).  The cross training alone would be a nightmare.

I agree however, that there should be rating system, but in each company only.
