Striking Motion
« on: July 24, 2009, 07:42:35 AM »
I just got a SM off of Ebay, really cheap. Wanted suggestions on how to drill it. It has a 4-5" pin. I have a Magic (my favorite ball right now), Pearl One, Furious, Tropical and spare ball.

I really don't have stats for my game - Left handed, above average ball speed, medium hand, extremely high backswing (not that it matters). Just started bowling again in March after a long long break and don't quite understand a lot of these new drillings etc.

Looking for more hook or different from my Magic.

IMO and this is just my opinion get it drilled to roll early i think this balls rg is like 2.56 meaning its built to go long. mine is drilled with the pin to the right of my ring finger and i still get over under with mine and i dont throw that hard. see when others chime in on this but for me the ball went way too long, i dont know a whole lot about drillings but maybe pin down would work to get it to pick up a little sooner.

Drilling #2 is the recommended one for most bowleres by Ebonite. Stay away from pin up drillings as trynabbest stated. Just remember that this ball comes at 4000 grit so ajust the coverstock as needed depending on volume bowling on. A very good ball that didn't get much love due to the higher RG value atypical of Ebonite strong equipment.

Since you have above average ball speed I thing drilling #1 would work a little better since the pin would be closer to your PAP and therefore hook a little earlier. Just my 2 cents.

Since you dont know your PAP and what not and would like it to be strong and it has a 4-5" pin i would go with a quasi double thumb drill.  Pin the pin above or next to your Ring finger, MB straight down, and a X-Hole in the thumb quadrant.

Mine went very straight... Make sure u drill it strong enough. Nothing weak enless u want a really really weak ball.

Thanks for the input. My pro shop guy has my PAP and info. I can't remember what it is. Things have changed with the ball drillings since the mid 90s LOL.

I probably should've spent extra and got an Evolve or something better, but the price on Ebay for the SM was ridiculously low.

I do love my Magic, had a 299 (solid 8) 763 last night with it. Definitely my favorite ball for the last couple months.

I won a Striking Motion on Ebay and this the second one I have.I like mine and in order for the ball to work is to drill it strong.I may go with drilling no.2.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

It's not bad, I got it drilled yesterday. It flares like crazy, hits pretty hard. We drilled it strong, probably just under my Magic (my fav ball).

My PAP is 4 1/8 over, 5/8 down

People don't see the big backend and they think a ball is no good. Ebonite probably hurt itself by saying "more overall hook than we have ever made" but that hook is in a different part of the lane. If you don't see a hockey stick reaction it does not mean the ball is not hooking. One of the better oil balls Ebonite made, just adjust the coverstock as needed. Most bowlers are not going to get a 4000 grit ball to work in the heavier stuff. IMHO

i got a striking motion a month ago or so and got it drilled to go long with a big backend on it, the majority of the opinions on here was that i wouldnt get that. it was second hand when i got it but it had only 20-30 games on it. the guy had already dulled it 2000 abralon, it wouldnt work for me and i was dissapointed, but last week i thought about changing the surface on it, so i put it down to 1000 abralon. i was amazed with what it gave me and is now back in my main bag of 6. ive recently been through a rough patch due to some side affects of medicine which caused me to drop my bowlin from a 195-200 average down to around a 160 average, but after comin of the meds i hav used this ball twice and hit a 606 and a 1677 over 6 series, although the 1677 isnt as an average as 200 i was pleased as it was a sport pattern, which i havent played on for a while, alot of people were struggling playin an across the lane shot as they couldnt get the ball back into the pocket so alot went to the down the line shot, but with my striking motion i could play a monster shot, standin 31 and shootin over around 11. it went long and always came back, sumtimes high if i was a board inside. this ball gave me all i wanted once i dulled it down so i would highly recomend it and if it doesnt work straight away, play with the surface.
