Title: Best Replacement ball
Post by: Twitch 1 on May 15, 2014, 11:33:05 AM
Best replacement ball for Ebonite Vortex Trimax. It does not have to be Ebonite  brand but would prefer it.

Do you mean the Vortex 1, 2 or 3 or the Matrix Trimax, Trimax 2 or Trimax3?

Check this listing to verify:

Ok, that was a strong ball 15 years ago, super low RG (2.44 or thereabouts), but its coverstock is one the weaker side of medium today.

Few balls today use such a low RG and the coverstocks are generally much stronger. The Ebonite Cyclone uses a similar coverstock but on a much high RG core and the cover is highly polished. You might be better off using  modern ball that blends a better balance of medium RG core with a stronger coverstock. You might want to check videos of balls in the Ebonite family (Columbia, Hammer, etc.) that handle medium oil, like the TakeDown, Smackdown, Eruption series, Arson, Absolute Hook, and Ebonite's own Persevere.

There are also some new bal lines like Seismic that has the Euphoric,
http://www.bowlerx.com/Seismic-Euphoric-Bowling-Ball-SEISEUPHORIC.htm (http://www.bowlerx.com/Seismic-Euphoric-Bowling-Ball-SEISEUPHORIC.htm)
that may be suitable.

There are a couple of balls with a super low RG but my initial reaction is that these will be stronger than the Vortex II on today's oil. One such is the Storm IQ Tour solid:
http://www.bowlerx.com/Storm-IQ-Tour-Bowling-Ball-STIQTOUR.htm (http://www.bowlerx.com/Storm-IQ-Tour-Bowling-Ball-STIQTOUR.htm)

Keep in mind one very important factor here. Your Vortex is very, VERY old by bowling standards. I have no idea how well you have kept it, how much oil it has absorbed over time, and what surface is on it now. They all have huge POTENTIAL effects on your balls current performance which is a total unknown. I have been speaking above, as if your Vortex were brand new. It obviously is not, but in what condition it is in is very variable.

The Vortex II had the Trimax cover on the black/blue solid and the pearl, which was a light blue/silver Trimax. There was the Vortex II particle as well, but it wasn't a Trimax cover. I agree with charlest about the Seismic and I'd look into the new Blackout TSE, which is suppose to be very smooth and controllable. You can watch the videos on YouTube and gunny rolls all of them. I love the Ogre line from Visionary and I think the LT-48 may be close, but it's stronger than I expected.

The Seismic ball I mentioned was the wrong name, sorry! It's the Desperado TSE, which is a higher rg, lower diff, with a mid asymmetrical weight block. Here's the link:

i would definitely suggest that IQ tour solid. same shape probably about the same strength. also the columbia disorder has similar core numbers obviously stronger cover comparatively. that ball is the definition of benchmark.

the DISORDER is a great ball, factory OBB is 200 dull and its is strong and round
i have mine at 2000 dull + polish
now it gets through the heads with ease and is still very rolly and predictable
easily my benchmark piece and i have many different pieces to choose from

Know this is back in May.  But if you havent gotten anything yet; look at the new Gamebreaker 2.
