Big One Lay Out....
« on: April 19, 2006, 03:09:55 AM »
I just got a Big One for a friend. He is a tall
individual who throws it 17mph with a low rev rate.
He has a normal track and is a stroker. (Right Handed)

I was thinking of the number 1 layout but with the pin under
ring finger with the MB 3 inches away from thumb so the ball revs
in the mid lane to compensate for his speed. Also i know the ball will
need a weight hole because it has 3oz of top weight. Will
putting the weight hole 2 inches below his pap make a difference to
make the ball flare a little more.

His PAP is 4-1/4 over and 7/8 up.

What would be the differnce having the ending weights 1/2 positive or 1/2 negative?

Let me know.

Thanks.

Hey Paul,
I would be interested in hearing the answer to this as I have a lot of speed but with medium revs and have been considering using a layout like this myself.
Thanks

Basically just agreed with his suggestion for the #1 layout. I told him to check the sideweight before drilling a weight hole and use a 1 inch bit or close to a 1 inch bit  to get the sideweight around 1/2 to 3/4's to start. If the ball was not committing early  enough.. Then he could take out more weight until the desired point of commitment was reached.

I also recommended particle polish for the big one.. For me it seems to be readable at the breakpoint because its not shined up like a marble.

With the technology of balls nowadays you get more desired reaction with ball surface, tilt, revrate than static weights.  Sure layouts have an effect on a balls reaction, but overall the surface, tilt, rev rate play a bigger role.
