Player layout suggestions...
« on: September 03, 2004, 06:38:44 AM »
Picking up one of these real soon.  My stats are in my profile...

After the first night of league last night I found myself struggling to open up the lanes.  I might be putting a little more surface on my Prime Time to help with that since it is currently at 1200, but the label leverage layout on that ball and my Ultra Hot leave a bland taste in my mouth.

I'd like this ball to get through spotty heads and midlane, yet have good recovery through carrydown.  Is that possible?

Also, how strong is the mass bias in these buggers?

TPC warrior note mass bias listed at .004 very mild.

Versus say a Morich Ravage with big mass bias

I think the mass bias on TPC line is like Adrenaline.

Oh well, maybe it'll have a low top weight and a short pin and I can play with a 315 degree layout.  At least it's a marked mass bias ball.

This ball can have a lot of mass bias depending upon where you put the weight hole. I had one of these and had to sell it because it hooked too much! Personally, I like the Show Time sanded for oil. However, I only get to use the V2 Dry with a 5" pin in my center.

Looking at your profile I would say one reason you were struggling to open up the lane with your prime time is the drilling (3.5 X 5) not exactly a good drilling for opening up the lanes. The Player will more than likely be less condusive to opening up the lanes going by BTM's review. I would go with:
Primal Instinct, 4 1/4" pin to PAP and MB at 75° or
Killer Instinct Pearl 4 1/2" pin to PAP and MB at 75°
pin above fingers regardless.

Either of these would be better for opening up the lane IMHO.

Almost forgot to answer your actual ?

Player I would go with something pin above fingers 4.5"-5" pin to PAP and MB at 75°.
I would also try and get a ball with about a 3.5" pin to CG distance and medium top weight.

I guess what I'll have to do is make sure I don't get the Player drilled with the mass bias in a weak position.  I've been reading up on drilling info again and really wish I had paid more attention to some of this when I bought the Prime Time.

Layouts between 105-135 degrees get good length, but you need dry area to get a solid reaction, at least I do.  Which is something I won't see after the 2nd game of league play.  If I wanted length out of the PT I probably should have went with a 4" pin to PAP with the pin just above my ring finger and the CG nearly in the stacked position.

Might be fun comnvincing my driller that a pin below ring finger, 75 deg. layout will be a good thing for me to try, but I'll give it a shot.

I don't see where anyone suggested pin below fingers.
Your speed and revs are close to mine (see profile) if we have the same definitions.
That being said pin below has not worked well for me and others I have seen with similar style. May or may not work for you but I think that pin above drillings are better for opening up the lane due to energy conservation and  increased recovery.

I have two with drilling number 2 with psa at 70 degrees on medium to lighter mediums it will open up the lane quite a bit. In oil do not waste your time trying and grab one of the cheap addictions or obessions on ebay for about 60 bucks or less. This ball is great reactive ball and frankly a steal until the run out of them on ebay, mine is pin below fingers and i have a ton of forward roll and do not track over fingers at all as long as you keep it below the ring finger you are still in the safe zone.

Heres that I ended up with....

Pin above ring, cg below ring, mb about an inch right of my thumb.  No X hole and fingers drilled deep to keep finger weight down.
Touched it with a little rubbing compound before hiting the lanes.  Was on our fresh THS and had to pretty much play down the track with it unless I slowed it down.  I'll leave it like this for now, but will probably tweak the surface for next week if it's not what I'm looking for during league play.
