Title: Ebonite Cyclone nice pill
Post by: LuckyLefty on May 20, 2014, 11:29:10 PM
For about a year I have been really liking my Freeze.  I had not seen many Cyclones look very good seeming to be midlane ball on a house that likes backend.

I decided to drill mine for less midlane and later backend pin up and finger weight!  Left in its quite shiny box finish!

I have this really hot looking version

First impression.....I may like it better than my Freeze, which I find hard to believe!

PS A couple of weeks ago in My first competition game with my new Cyclone I had 9 strikes right out of the box!  Playing 7-8 to 2-3 on a dryer version of the same shot! Nice pill!

Around where I live there are a few ebo nuts that swear by the cyclone.  Seems to have a Lil more upmh than other balls in that price point, while still being clean and controllable.

The Cyclone is a high performance ball by early-mid 2000s standards.  I still swear by that ball.  If you have any friction in the track area, or just need natural push down the lane but gets around a corner hard, there's no better value IMO for a ball that goes out of the door less than $125 bucks on average.

Interesting.. add a bit more navy into it and it almost looks like a Total NV..

I continue to amass higher and higher scores with this.

Playing as DP3 says in the frictionand getting faster and more direct is impressing me as this ball really carries and allows me to create different lines to the pocket.

In box as mine is, the friction must be found early to accomplish ones goal.

My Freeze seems to create more total hook and starts a little later!  The earlier rev and seemingly smaller boards covered (but lots of hit)and dispersion cyclone is really raising my average.

This great looking pill I have has pink/gold/royal blue and purple in it.

I wanted to trade it with my Pro for a green/royal blue one as I perceived that ball to be similar in surface to my powerhouse Mission X but with less core!

I am glad he didn't!

PS I have a more pin out also hot looking Yellow Orange one!  I have some ideas for this!

Don't forget that the Cyclones are all solids. It has a slightly lower base RG and a higher RG Differential than the Freezes.
Freezes come in pearl, hybrids AND solids and have a higher bas RG and a slightly lower differential.

Of course, the major difference in in the coverstocks. Since the cores are different, it's almost impossible to compare them.

I have a Cyclone that I kind of like; it has the pin in the middle finger.
I haven't drilled my solid Freeze yet but to make the core dynamics similar to my Cyclcone I think pin under the center of the bridge would be good. Have to try it this summer and see how they compare.

Cyclone is no joke. It is the ball used to win the 2011 Women's open.

The Cyclone uses the coverstock from "The One" that Ebonite released a few years back doesn't it? With that coverstock the ball has to be powerful and should be considered a steal IMHO. Not sure what Core it has but damn near anything is better than a pancake core.

I have the bright yellow swirly Cyclone. Truly it is a solid. I have a rico drill on it, and it is still too flippy for me. Most people who have had success with this ball have had the one listed and shown above.

I still have not found a consistent use for mine. Probably doesn't match my style.

I have 3 Cyclones.  Each has a different layout.  They are the best balls I have ever had for the typical house shot.

Of the balls I own on our house shot It performs and looks like most of the pearls I have.

When I want to smooth out a wet dry I switch to my real solids, my Mission X, My Meanstreak beatdown or my Roto Grip Grand Illussion.

The reaction is not dramatically different than my Freakin Frantic but they work at different times.  The ideal for this ball that looks much pearlier than an Ebonite One I sold this year is when the the backends are mushy and I am throwing fast and direct this ball is a killer.  The core seems to just keep driving smoothly to the hole.  On fresh and wet and sparky I put this ball down.  (I haven't altered the surface)

For the Freakin I need to find more friction early OR the coverstock is massive off the dry if friction isn't found pretty early!

REgards,

PS to me a handy pearl ball type reaction I HAVE never had before slightly smoother.

It's a very popular ball in my home area (NM).  I've drilled a few in the last couple of months, people really like them.

Well, if I can go direct this pill is one of the strongest hitters I have ever had.

Pointing is even better.

Oh recently bowled on a real top hat with some blended oil outside 10 and all of sudden I was able to be the lefty up 7 8 and blow the pins off the pod ball after ball!

In my house with much more friction left of 10, unless I am really rolling it well(ie wrist bent back a little to allow me to get to this slight point line), this ball looks so good but wants to ping flat 7s anywhere from 10 in and never carries deeper than 13 for me.

I have another one pin out close to 4.  To figure out how to get this one set up to carry from a more inside line?  I have seen some ideas from DP3.  I am thinking surface and a stronger pin still up and a down VAL weighhole for a little loop.

Regards,

Luckylefty
PS I know I have been hesitant to scuff this pin up Cyclone as it just doesn't miss and hits SO hard on its preferred line which I find in many other houses.  Also I can create with the proper wrist position in this house!

Recently started back to bowling a few weeks ago and drilled up an ugly, orange 14# Cyclone.  I love it.  When I can consistently get a clean release it hits really well and carries great.  Drives through the pin deck pretty well and scatters the wood.  Have not left many light 10 pins.

Mine is layed out dual-angle with lower numbers to get it to roll a bit sooner.  It has some mid-lane roll and continuous backend.  Carries some good energy into and through the pins.  It's been a spot-on test ball for me in a sense.  I am (hopefully) picking up a Pivot on Friday and plan on drilling it in a similar manner.

There's a Cyclone out now with a 2K sanded cover OOB, limited number of them made.
I got one but have not punched it up yet:
