Help my fellow Ebonite Crew please!
« on: March 05, 2006, 06:53:24 AM »
I tried posting this in the Coverstock Prep no one will answer hopefully,

Someone here will!

I have just receieved the Hook Again. It says to place the ball inserts down. Should I also Tape up the inserts and thumb? Is this stuff a powder or liquid?
My wife is pregnant so is there any fumes from this?Is it safe to do indoors or should I do it outside? Does anyone have any special tips to make sure this works as well as possible? I have league tomorrow night so I want to do this shortly. Is 24hrs enough time for this?
Thanks a lot!!!

It is a very fine powder, along with bits that look like real small wood chips. You don't have to plug the fingers at all.

Very little smell from it, so inside should be OK. I would tend to want to leave it in loger than 24 hours personally, but you should still see results in that time frame.

I like the stuff and it works well on everything I've tried except the activator coverstock.  For some reason, it doesn't do to much with the activator.  Although I haven't, its probably a goody idea to wear a mask while in close proximity and pouring the stuff, very fine particles.  It shouldn't pose any problem after poured with fumes and the like.  I think the best way to clean the ball up is to vacume as much out as possible through the hole and then clean the ball thouroughly with ball cleaner.

The ball should be inside the chamber for 24 hours, longer will not hurt the ball but also will not make the ball perform any better.
Make sure you have some Hook agian on the bottom of the chamber before you insert the ball, finger holes down.
Eevn though there isn't any fumes, I suggest you do it in the where the dust can be controlled

I also used it...

yup, better to tape the holes.

There will be a fine dust that comes up when pouring, so better to do it in a big open space or out doors.

I have tried 24 hours and mostly it works good.  Some here have posted about leaving the ball in for longer and getting good results. (Older balls might need the longer time).  Officially ebonite says longer than 24 hours doesn't help any.  (I also seem to recall, not sure tho, about reading ebonite saying very long exposure might hurt the cover.. but am not really sure.)

hope to have helped
