original mission compared to a taboo
« on: April 03, 2011, 12:15:42 PM »
I have a taboo drilled pin under opposite with the mb out 2 inch off my centerline. I love the ball and it certainly hooks as much as I will ever need. My friend gave me an original mission, I am curious how this compares to the taboo in everyones experiences. I have pretty much narrowed down my layout options to the same pin under opposite, which is 4-3/4 to my pap, or a rico layout. I want the mission to be less aggressive and have more of an even roll.

Near as I can tell, they handle the same amount of oil, but how they go about it is different: ball path. The Taboo is more like the Virtual Gravity, in that it has a more sudden change of direction, while the Mission is more arc-like and more controllable.

What the heck is "pin under opposite"?

I have the Mission and a team mate has the Taboo, and the description Charlest gave is what we have.

The cover/core combo on the Taboo is MUCH stronger than a Mission.  charlest may have it right on the VG comparison.  I've had both the VG and the Taboo (both @ 4k abby).  I did not have identical drillings on the two balls, but it feels like the Taboo is just a little stronger overall, off the spot, and thru the pin deck than a VG.  Not a lot, but enough that, IMHO, charlest brought the right mindset in his comparison.

well i drilled the mission the same as my taboo but put the mb an inch stronger, which is right on my val. The mission at the same surface prep as the taboo, 1500, is longer and much angular and about five boards stronger. So much for trying to make it smooth and rolly, n less agressive.

charlest, not the pin, the mb.  However, @ 1500, there's a TON of friction to make the ball more angular than a Taboo.

Yes, sorry, corrected.
I was thinking MB on the VAL makes for a very early rolling ball path (unless there's a lot of heavy up front oil or the bowler has a high degree of rotation..

But if both are at 1500, the Taboo should still be more angular.

Icefiction, Is this the original Misison or one of the newer ones?

its the original mission, i practiced with it today and decided to put polish on it to see what that would do, and it turned it into a plastic ball, so I took it to 2000 and it rolls the same as 1500 and thats where it will stay.

Sorry that the things we said didn't help. I am honestly surprised at the ball reaction you got.

its ok, I am too. I think that its just one of those things where sometimes you can take your best bet, but there are so many factors that are at work here that I don't think we would guess right more than half the time. Like someone else said, the mb in the dif in the taboo is so high that it could always roll earlier, and I have always had ebonite covers go sideways down the lane for me.
