I have a GB3 Pearl which I can't get to work for me. Sometimes it hooks and others it doesn't. The factory finish is 500/1000 polished. The Solid GB3 comes at 500/2000 dull. If I change the surface on the Pearl to 500/2000 would the reaction then be similar to the Solid? I realize it won't be exactly the same but I'd appreciate some opinions before I make the change.

Not really! The pearl is at 1000 so that you can get it to hook! If you take it up to 2000 it will just skid further with little hook at all! You'd probably be better served taking a used 1000 pad to your ball and try to dull up that polish they put on it! I never liked polish on a pearl ball at all! Makes them extremely over/under for me. Just so you know, I have the GB3 solid and OOB it is the bomb! Once it gets lane shine however, the same thing starts happening to me....very inconsistent! Try both and just go with the method that works for you. I don't think that there is a concrete method that fits all styles!

Thanks. What I should have said was that I wanted to take the surface to 500/2000 with no polish so it would be the same as the GB3 solid.

My experiences with EBI is that their polished stuff from the factory tends to squirt on the backend when oil is present and jumps hard off the dry. My solution was to take a fresh 1000 pad and take the factory polish off. Then, take the ball to factory abralon setting and apply something like Storm 2 or Clean and Sheen. Powerhouse Factory Polish really makes a ball skid in oil. Once I made the adjustments; the balls came to life and really matched up well for me. May want to give this a shot and see what happens.

Yes, try to take the polish off, scuff by hand with a 3000 or 4000, see if that helps the over/under you are seeing
