« on: January 04, 2004, 02:59:39 AM »
Hi, yesterday I was resurfacing my V2 Pearl and I tried to take some of the scratches with 400grit and didnt do much, so I gave it full 200Grit and the ball got VERY sanded, then I 400grit again and later 800grit after that I polished, the ball got pearl texture but the scratches of the sandpaper didnt dissapear with the polish, I WANT MY MIRROR LIKE coverstock, what should I do???

use ebonite matte finish it is there newest finish compound and then hit it
with ebonite factory finish and the extender they all make. You will get it very polished with these steps and eliminate the sand marks with the matte finish compound. You can pretty much use neotac or any other polish but i find the ebonite easy to find and use but i do also keep the other products around just for a different look and reaction.

First of all, I would never ever hit the surface of any ball with 200 grit. You can smooth it out and polish it, sure, but it is a lot of material to use.

Second, I would consider taking it up to around 1500 grit with sandpaper, by using 1000, then 1200, then 1500 grit. Make sure you use alot of water or water/liquid soap, and keep the surface wet when you are spinning it. If you feel anything rough under your hand, pull the paper off and clean it. If you don't keep the surface clean as you sand, you will add deeper scrathes.

Third, take a good rubbing compound (ebonite matte does fit the bill) and take up to a light sheen finish, using meduim pressure and alot of overlapping circles.

Fourth, using a good, fine grit polish, and alot of elbow grease. If you are resurfacing your ball by hand, with out a spinner, it could take 6 hours to do it properly. I have spent 3 hours polishing a ball once.

The V2 Pearl was a meduim finsh, I believe 800 grit with a rough compound on it. If you want it to look like a mirror, you are going to get more length, and more of a hockey stick back end with the ball.

Are you doing it by hand or with a spinner?

First I did it by hand, later I went to my ProShop and the owner allowed me to use the spinner, so I have a Mirror Like V2 pearl that has hell of lenght and carries very hard... I like what I did.... I am happpppy, but still, I have more control over my Complete Chaos, I don't get why.... My first ball was the V2 Pearl (NIB) and 4 months later I bought a Complete Chaos, (Used but in SUPER mint condition) and my best series and lanes I got them on the chaos... can anyone tell me why??? (I have 10 months bowling...)(BUT IM HAPPY LAST LEAGUE I GOT MY PASS TO FIRST DIVISION with 195.67 avg... In less than a year )
