SR300 Drilling Suggestions
« on: April 26, 2007, 11:38:42 PM »
Yes, I know to talk with my pro shop staffer, but I'm curious. My intention is to make this ball it the baseline/first out of the bag. My average speed is 19+ off the hand (avg 17.5 on Qubica) and rev rate is 435; PAP is 5 1/8 X 3/4 up. The reaction I'm looking for good length with mid-lane read and a smooth continuous/strong arc to the pocket. My staffer suggested placing the pin in the ring finger and drilling it out to lower the differential and location the mass bias near the thumb. Your input is appreciated.

Also, if anyone has a drill sheet online or can email a copy, could you please?

Thanks!

Sound pretty much like my setup on the SR300, I just have lower speed and revs than you. PAP is also similar (5" over, 7/8" up).
My SR300 has a nice back end, but not the sharp breakpoint one would expect from this type of ball. I just found the coverstock to be very strong, so I polished the ball up and this helped very much. I guess with more rotation and speed, this should be a setup that delivers what you are looking for.

K-Dawg,

The SR300 is a very nice ball. My suggestion for layout based on what you have mentioned about your game would be:

Place the pin at 3 3/4 from PAP, about 3 inches above your midline. If you want an arc type reaction this will get it started so there is not too much energy spend down the lane. It will happen as a nice continuous roll throughout with a predictable yet strong reaction at the breakpoint.

The MB rating of the SR300 is relatively weak, though I would still use it as a consideration when laying out the ball. As you move the MB closer to the thumb this is going to make the reaction down lane be much more abrupt or more of a snap type reaction.....even if the pin were in the ring finger. I would place the MB at 4 1/2inces from your PAP trying to keep it in location between #2 position and #3 position(closer to #3 if possible). This will keep it strong but predictable at the break.

I hope this info helps. If you have any other questions shoot me a PM.

Goodluck,
Carl
